I'm a bit confused. So if someone just edited the silhouette, that's not what the doll looks like, right? But if it is, let me be the first to say "THANK GOD for making a blonde character with red-colored fashion instead of aqua and pink. THANK GOD!!"No, it is what the doll looks like. ^.^ Basically what happened is someone in the art department made an oopsie and didn't gray something out as well as they thought they had and still left enough visual information to be edited so we could see her.

I'm not sure I'm going to collect this line, tho.. what made me like MH was all the monster-y characters (even Ghoulia & Lala are a bit too plain for my taste), so if this line basically has just 'girls' it won't do it for me.
Still, I am happy for all the 'true' doll-fans out there PLUS if they share the same body-type I might be able to snatch a few outfits for my ghouls. ^^

I have my own income, but I also have OCD so my fiance likes to look out for me (I just don't want him to sound like a control freak, he isn't). I'm super intrigued by this line! My only concern is that they'll be too "butterflies and rainbows" and not really goth/dark like monster high is. That whole concept and how different they are compared to everything else out there is really what drew me in to monster high.
And I really hope they make a beauty and the beast inspired character!
Probably. I hope they keep they same body, but make the faces a little bit softer; a lot of the MH girls have way too severe features for me. Like I love how Ghoulia looks when she's drawn, but her doll looks so angry and pointy to me. I'd prefer them with a softer, rounder face sculpt like frankies or lagoonas.

I agree whole heartedly. My biggest complaint about Bratz dolls is their huge lips! I think MH dolls look more like wholesome teenagers, as unlikely as that sounds.
The lips on Bratz are what scared me off. Some women/dolls can look great with huge lips, but it's like the Bratz slapped two large salmon on their face.
No offense to Bratz fans.
But it really is a shame because the Bratz line has some really great ideas and beautiful costumes and outfits for their dolls. And the dolls have nice hair. But the lips....oh the lips.....

It makes sense that there are a lot of cross overs with the voice actors. Raven Queen sounds a lot like Clair from the Ghouls Rule special (which makes sense since the actress who does Cupid's voice was also Clair among a bunch of other characters).
I think the daughter of Sleeping Beauty was the same voice actress as Frankie Stein. Cinderella's daughter may have been Lagoona? The prince was def. Deuce (the characters even seemed kind of similar).
I think they're going to stretch it like they're doing with Monster High. Either way, I just want more pretty pastel, candy colored people!!!

4. Briar - I really dislike her whole personality as well as the overuse of words such as 'like', 'totally', etc. It would be wonderful to see characters with a broader vocabulary. Too many people already overuse those sort of words in reality, and it's becoming quite disconcerting!I agree,Briar and Apple are a bit annoying and air-headed,But so pretty T_T As it is Mattel gets 100% of every penny I get on Monster High,Now I'm gonna have to somehow split my money for EAH and MH,Sweet baby Jesus this is gonna be tough.

Not as pretty as I was expecting them to be (the beautiful artwork was giving me high hopes...) but I still love them!

Briar Beauty (Sleeping Beauty), Ashlyn Ella (Cinderella), Queen of Hearts/Red Queen (No official name for her yet), Blondie Locks (Goldilocks), Cedar Wood (Pinocchio), C.A. Cupid, Madeline "Maddy" Hatter (Mad Hatter) and Cerise Hood (Red Riding Hood).
Is anyone else bummed that Cupid looks 'prettified' for this? I loved her bone wings and her elegantly creepy design. I do like the idea that she might 'change' when moving from world to world. I am excited by new Cupid dolls but not if they're the usual Barbie/pink/girly. I think the idea is cute but I miss the diverse looks of the MH faces. The Big Bad Wolf girl is cool though...and might make a great friend for Howleen..:) It will be interesting to see how these do against MH, little girls love fairy tales/princess stuff so this line has the chance to become even more popular than MH. I think I'll always prefer MH though, I just love my horror and monsters too much... :)

I'm wondering if those are prototypes? Raven's face mold looks very similar to Draculaura's, can't fully tell with Apple from that angle. I do hope that all the girls won't have the exact same mold. Though they may do like Monster High did and start off a lot more similar and get more diverse with molds if the line does well.

I bet that as the line expands and gets more popular that they'll explore fairy tales from more diverse cultures and we'll see more races represented, at least I hope so! I wouldn't really call it a step back though, they are just starting with stories that are going to be familiar to the widest audience and those stories happen to be mostly western European. I am with you on hoping we see more diversity in the future though!

Turning them all into puffy, round faced princesses in pretty pretty dresses just takes all the depth, darkness, and child terrifying that fairy tales have and their core and white washes them into the "learn to read" fairy tales walmart sells, and kills the bits of the stories I love best.That feeling. :( What you grew up with for what it originally was, gets all watered down and covered in sugar and rainbows so kids won't be scared.

Yeah, I was kinda hoping I wouldn't like them either. I will buy some of them (I want Maddy, Raven, Cerise and Kitty), but I don't plan to really collect them. At least not yet. I have quite enough with MH, Pullips and BJDs.

My only nitpick, Daughter of the Mad Hatter. She's pretty, she's an awesome design and all that good stuff. I couldn't agree more! The webisodes were cool but the dolls are meh. I too hope they are just prototypes. They remind me of dollar store knock off princess dolls. I am happy however, that they are the same size of MH dolls so we can use their outfits. Will I buy them? Yes.

I'm a bit weirded out by all the people here saying that they expected more from the dolls.
To me they look just like the webisode models. Is there something wrong with my eyes? XD
I expected them to be all same-face because that's how they are shown in the cartoon.
What I didn't expect, though, were painted on eyes. I legit hoped they would have inset eyes or at least eye lashes ^^#
Well, maybe they will be cheaper than MH. Like, MH budget doll price. I'd be very okay with that!
Also we should probably keep in mind that those photos are really blurry and shot from an inconvinient angle.

I really don't think that the royals are all bland or "air-headed" (someone said it in this thread, I just forgot who). It's just that the rebels are going against the system and that clicks more with me (Cerise, come into my arms! I love the Perrault version of LRRH and werewolves in general, so I'm obviously biased, lol)!

If a lot of the daughters are the product of fairy tale moms and prince charming dads that means the princes at school can't also be sons of prince charming because then they're all related.

Edit: Just my two cents on the ethnic diversity in EAH. I totally agree that even though most of the characters are based on Central-European and North-American tales/rhymes that doesn't mean they all have to be white. My expectations are always low in that regard so I can't get too upset about a lack of diversity, but that doesn't mean I don't wish for improvement.
Some folks in this thread have already pointed out that MH introduced more characters that weren't coded white as the series/brand progressed, so that's something I can hope for.
As much as I dislike most Disney adaptions, Princess and the Frog had a black protagonist even though the tale as we know it is most likely set in a Central-European environment. But they changed the story and the setting to make it work and that's something I really liked about that movie 8I thought the movie itself was incredibly boring, but I'm not amongst the Disney Princess fanbase at all, so what do I know? Haha! I will alwas have a soft spot for Jasmine, though. Lady is perfect!)
Oh, and I don't want to be rude but can we please drop the term "political correctness"? This is a brand for all girls, I assume. Not just for the Caucasian ones :/

I don't know. I was just expecting a little more creativity from the line. There are a few too many mostly-white-human-girl doll lines already, IMO. I guess that's why I'm so drawn to Monster High.

I think one of my favorite explanations of the Prince Charming conundrum comes from Into the Woods, where there are two princely brothers who, after rescuing their princesses, realize that they're booored without the chase, so they dump their first "true loves" and find themselves two other ones instead. Ah, quirky musicals, you amuse me.
But no, in most fairy tales the Princes are not actually named. The name Prince Charming comes from them being described as charming princes. It's one of the many reasons that Sleeping Beauty is my favorite disney movie; Prince Phillip is a detailed, developed character with a name and personality. Plus Maleficent is the beest villain ever, and I love her plan of revenge. Not no happy ending, just... waiting a century or so.

I'd love (and look forward) to see more diversity in the line as well! I too noticed how there were a lot of blondes and save for Briar Beauty, the only other diverse/darker skin-tone one (that I saw) was Pinoccho's daughter, and it kinda bummed me out a little. But the line is just starting out, so I'd imagine eventually there would be more diverse characters. :D
Growing up there was a TV series I watched (and still love, to this day) on HBO called "Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child", and it pretty much did a bunch of classic fairy tales with a multicultural twist/re-telling. So there would be for example an Asian version of The Little Mermaid, African version of Beauty and the Beast, Spanish version of Hansel and Gretel, and the list goes on. They also had a Native American version of Snow White, IIRC. Pretty sure that show is still airing on HBO Family.
I think it would be neat if EAH did the same thing with some future characters. And there are a bunch of stories from other cultures that would be fun/neat to see as students of EAH. :D

I didn't mind that one character obsessing with shoes, since I believe she was Cinderella's daughter (which makes sense, because that story involved a glass shoe). I completely agree. I don't understand the idea that women love shoes and it gets frustrating when characters on shows have conversations about shoes like that's Typical Girly Thing.
The only thing which would make this line or MH better, in my opinion, is girl dolls with flat feet. Not everybody can or likes wearing heels, as pretty as they are.
Raven kind of looks like a Mystixx Vampire from that angle, but Apple is surprisingly cute.
I too am confused about nearly EVERYONE having waist-length wavy hair (Cerise seems to be the only one who doesn't?) I thought to myself, "Well, at least Cupid has short hair" and then I looked again. Nope. They gave HER waist-length, wavy hair too. What the heck. XDThe more hair for people/kids to brush and style with, I'm guessing. xD

May 10, 2012 - Ever After High was filed for trademark in the category "DOLLS, DOLL CLOTHING AND DOLL ACCESSORIES". Similar trademarks were also later made for Cosmic High, High Seas High, Luna High, and Robo High.
So..let's see. Space girls, Pirates, Moon girls (as well as Space girls?) and Robot girls? Maybe Robecca goes off there. o.O
Cosmic High sounds awesome. I could do with some MH-esque aliens. That's a line I can get behind!
I am not sure how to do quotes... but if your look at the abandements names in the trademarks all te other highs have been dropped for now anyway .

I see myself watching the webisodes of course. The quality is pretty good. Heck, why are MH Webisodes not that amaizingly good?
But about the dolls, well, the reason I fell in love with monster high were the monsters and the details. There are details here, but no monsters.
Might be interested in getting Raven Queen, MAdeline Hatter, Cerise Hood and maybe Kittye Cheshire for my kids. Though maybe after seeing the dolls live, I will feel different and would want them all.
Aside from that, what I really wanted to point out is that, how can Daring Charming be Prince Charming son and he and Apple are a couple. If he's prince Charming son and she is Snow White Daughter, doesn't that makes them.. brother and sister?
Unless Apple's charming is son of Cinderella & Charming, and Show & Charming's son, could be Dexter, or so on. It's weird anyway..

In the version of Snow White that I read, the evil queen is invited to Snow White and the prince's wedding, not knowing it's Snow White's wedding she's attending. After the queen arrives, she recognizes Snow White but before she can escape, heated iron slippers are forced on her feet and she has to dance around in them until she falls down dead.
Yeah, I'd probably rebel against that destiny, too. <_<

I've been really focused on this too, While this seems to be a 'verse where more happy fates are normal, it still makes it so damn creepy that Apple is dead set on having Raven fulfil her destiny. Even without having to be danced to death in white-hot iron, even the cheeriest tales require the queen's death.

Yeah, I was more thinking along the lines of why they don't want to BECOME rebels, since it's not all a cakewalk for them either, unlike Apple - Sorry for being a bit confusing about this. xD

Actually I think the Royal/Rebel thing is less about whether or not they want to follow their destiny, and more about just their roles in stories? (For example, Maddie is just fine with following her dads footsteps? She doesn't want to 'rebel.')
I think its more simple - like the Royals are the typical 'princesses' who get a 'happily ever after,' and the Rebels are - well, everyone else, including bad guys like evil queens. I don't recognise any non-princesses in Royal so far, unless Bo Peep is in there...

Yep, there's no doubt in my mind know that the bratz line is just a shameless rip-off of everything mattel makes popular.

So, "Royals" seems to be the ones that are promised "happily ever afters" and "Rebels" the other ones like villains and side-characters that don't really have "happily ever afters". I like this concept :)
And I like the doll pic too, I'll have to get them! Dropping my Novi Stars collecton for this one! :)
So I just re-watched Raven's webisode. Was that part at the end with the locked up brother always there? I don't remember seeing it there the first time.
As for the Royal/Rebel thing, and my plotline views:
The Royals are the characters who are happy to live with their stories the same as their parents, and are also for the most part Princes and Princesses. And they all are so happy to just keep to the story because it's their 100% guarantee for a happy ending- it's in the story after all that's how the stories work. They've spent their whole lives being told hey, just do this and you get to be happy foreeever, so of course they're cool for it.
The Rebels on the other hand, don't necessarily want to go through with their story. Like Raven, she doesn't actually waaant to be evil and hated forever, whether she dies or not. Hatter I think is just crazy? But her friend so support. And Red, if she is a werewolf, doesn't necessarily want that getting out. Hunter I'm not sure if he's really a "rebel", and in fact Dexter seems more likely to not want to be a perfect prince, since as a nerd boy he isn't a perfect charming (to most anyway. Some of us like sweet nerds).
Anyways, I'm pretty sure the "Poofing" isn't them vanishing, but their story disappearing because it will not longer be the old story. They'll have a new, unexplored story, which is prolly what locked up Grimm wants, but his brother would rather preserve the status quo.

I made a side by side comparison to show what my complaints are, since i'm able to express it much more succinctly visually then I would ever be able to do in words :) (plus why not when I have photoshop so readily at my disposal x3)
I straightened out the picture, then modified the head shape only slightly to be more like a frankie style head mold, and made the eyes bigger and wider with a less sultry expression.

Right now her head shape just reminds me way too much of merida from brave, which is this wide, round, persian-like face, like she smacked herself into a wall real hard and her whole face flattened out like a pancake XD And yes, it is like the show, but it seems too literal, too wide and round for me. Her animated face is a nice oval, not a pancake. Another big irk of mine is the evil/sultry expressions they give to all their dolls, so I modified her eyes to be less cleo like, and more Rochelle like :)
All really very tiny adjustments, and hopefully this head mold isnt final and the odd angle is making it look more stretched than it actually will be. Like you said, we have no idea where these crummy pictures are from at this point nor the stage of the prototypes, so let's just hope they make them nicer before their release.

If the line does a doll based on the same faerie, it will not be Maleficent or Maleficent based. Mattel would get into serious legal trouble, and why would they risk that? They already produce the Disney dolls as it is, they aren't about to risk one of their biggest contracts! They would do their own interpretation, as they properly should.

Well I think all she meant was the Fairy in Sleeping Beauty- not the specific Maleficent character- but again- I don't think that it would work because Raven seems to be the focus of the story- it wouldn't really work with two similar type characters.

Honestly, that is my biggest disappointment with the line right now (I think I've said it before tho..) - When I first heard fairy tales I was thinking Unicorns, Dragons, Fairies, CATERPILLARS!
Like MH but with a Fairy Tale theme. Now they're all humans.. pretty humans but humans. It's a bit boring.
But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they'll burst out more amazing and creative characters later on. ^^

She doesn't source who or what on Facebook this came from, so I don't think we should take this as more than a rumor still, but it gives me hope! I want those outfits! :D
That seems reasonable- as the packaging and doll design suggests they are going to follow the MH model VERY closely- except with princess/fairy tail stuff instead of monsters.
The MH line has done so ridiculously well- I'm sure this Ever After line is designed to get those hold-out moms that think Monster High dolls are "creepy" (yes, I've heard many a mom say it). One has to wonder though how much the "edginess factor" plays in with the demand for the dolls. How many kids hear their moms say "NO WAY" and want the doll just that much more? Just speculation.
I assumed as much ^.^ They certainly wouldn't go to the trouble of designing those outfits for nothing. i'm more curious as to who all will be a doll on the first run.

That I wonder as well. Maybe - and please don't take this the wrong way, my dear American friends - because this franchise's first target audience is always the US and the US doesn't know many classic fairy tales that have a male lead who isn't a prince. And they wanted a "manry mayon" presence in the franchise so they picked the Huntsman because "harr he's a tough ranger type with a heart of gold!" ;)
I was already rolling my eyes at "Snow White and the Huntsman", that movie with Kristen Stewart. I was wondering why the heck the Huntsman would need such a big role - oh, wait. He needed this big role because otherwise the movie would have been about two women only and who the heck wants to see a movie about two women, amirite? There's got to be a het romance and a tough male hero who saves the day and shows the ladies how it's done! ;)
Slightly off-topic: I also liked big chunks of that movie. Mostly the fantastic art direction, set/costume design and the soundtrack. If people want to see a well done "dark" version of Snow White, though: watch "Snow White, a tale of terror". It has Sigourney Weaver as the "evil" queen and damn, she plays the role so well.
I can't help feel everyone is reading into this a bit much. It is, after all, a toy line. Nothing more.

I loved MH's Cupid design, but I hated her doll because of the reuse of the Ghoulia face mold. But I love EAH's Cupid just as much because I think it still kinda fits her.

I like long hair on the dolls because there's more to style and play with. I never got a MH Cupid so if I like the EAH Cupid she will be first on my list to get.

It's nice to see that redheaded characters are much more prevalent these days. I grew up with the best one: Pippi Långstrump ;)
But there weren't redheads to play with (not that I was much interested in dolls when I was young).
The only one I remember was Disney's Little Mermaid and she didn't have freckles at all.
They're still holding back with freckles, I think. Somehow they're only tolerated when spread out over the nose and nowhere else.

They gave her some more backstory. Apparently, she was left on Cupid's doorstep as a baby and he adopted her. One of the characters (Ghoulia, I believe) thinks she might be a Bone Elemental. I am curious to see how she fits into EAH; will she actually come from the MH "dimension" and just be given a new look because of the world she inhabits? Or will her backstory change and be presented as a new character in the EAH storyline?

they never said who her mother was, but when at a museum on scaris, there is a statue of Venus (the goddess) and Cupid looks a lot like her, so we fans could speculate that she could well be the daughter or grandaughter of Venus.. or just, you know, related to her and Eros in some weird way.

I simply assumed Cedar was supposed to look stereotypically Italian with the wood aspect only being a minor feature on her limbs.
Oh, and that just occurred to me: what if they'd introduce original "Aladdin" and the princess from hist story later on? Have them be Chinese. That would be so cool!

Haha, I would love that! But chances are slim - considering the average bear doesn't even know there is a genie of the ring, I doubt they would pull a nerdy move like that and use the original story.
...If they did though, there would still be a few well-known character from 1001 Nights to use. Sindbad would be a great choice (handsome guy, sailor/ocean theme for clothing!) and while it's a bit meta, Scheherazade would be fantastic as charismatic booky type. Scratch that, she could be the perfect for a teacher! :biggrin:

Well, we need the base doll to do the custom of... but I may turn a few of these into customs, if they're pretty enough.
You know what would be amazing? If the Swan character was half/half. One half Swan Princess and one half Black Swan. Like, Princess and Black Swan got together and adopted her XD
Her outfit could be split into one black side and one white side.
(Yes, I know, this is one of those daydreams again. I don't actually think Mattel will make it so)

The lavender and pink hair girl with the black bow would be a perfect Miss Muffet.
Kitty is the one with the grey/light blue hair in pigtails with the cat ear hat. We were discussing the girl with the pink and purple hair in the pic of all the background princesses a couple pages back.
I could see her being a miss muffet or one of those story characters. But I could also see her being an Alice. I'm just hoping I'm right. I'm not really a fan of blondielocks or the bo peep girl.
I love those three in your signature, DEStokes... I really hope they get made into dolls.

It would be awesome if they did an Ashlynn/Hunter 2 Pack. Like how they had the Cleo/Deuce 2 Pack for the original Monster High release. I think they would do it to even out the Royals/Rebels during the first release. BUT! I think they will reveal Blondie.
