I just saw this Funko announcement!

All I gotta say is I'm happy the rarity of each figure is the same 1/12. I know some of the other mystery minis are really rare.
I especially want the glow in the dark ones! The other figures look like the vinyl figure box art! XD

I love the concept, but I don't care for the eyes on most of them. I'm not sure if it's the shape or the placement. I'd actually love to see them without the eyes, just the solid black + colored mane, tail, and cutie mark, but I imagine most people would find that too eerie.

They're...okay...I guess? Too bad I couldn't pick out the ones I want easily.
I really don't care much for variants in special colors and plastics. I'll wait for the normal releases.

I like them but not enough to want to torture myself with trying to collect them all, I'll just stick with the regular Funkos unless these are available in Australia.
The black is cool but still kinda weird, especially since Spitfire just has a black costume instead of a black body, which looks really odd next to all of the other solid black ones.
Kinda sad too that the fan favourites get figures before all of the mane 6. Not bad to get other ponies instead of just the mane 6 over and over... but they're kind of doing the same thing only with favourites.

These figures seem to be miniature versions of the vinyl figures already released/announced. Rainbow Dash and Muffins for wave one, Fluttershy and Dr Whooves for wave two, Pinkie Pie and Lyra for wave three, Spitfire and Sweetie Drops for wave four (just released), and DJ Pon-3 and Octavia must be the next wave (only prototypes of them have been seen thus far).
Funko reps have stated that they plan to release the whole mane six eventually, so in the future when there are more vinyl figure waves released, perhaps there will be another accompanying line of minis for them. Don't give up hope on mini-AJ, she might make an appearance eventually! :lol:

This could explain all the blind bag sized Dr. Whooves and Vinyl Scratches popping up on ebay--unless Hasbro is doing a similar release.

Very very interesting, as excited as I am, I also fear that these might become better selling than the actual funkos and they will start to only make these more and not the larger figures... Maybe I'm just paranoid, but look what happened to the brushables after blind bags came out...

These are all the same characters that already are out for funko (besides Octavia and Vinyl who are coming out next month) Don't worry Aj, Twilight, and Rarity will be funkos, they have already confirmed that, I'm guessing if these do well they will also be in smaller versions too in the next wave.

I like that Funko does more than just the Core 6/7 ponies, personally. I want the muffins pony, Dj PON-3, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy. So cute! I love Pinkie Pie's hair against a black body. Anyone have a clue on what they might cost, based on other Funko minis?

My guess would be a range from $4.99-$6.99 range per pony. I hope we can order the whole set online, and not have to buy accidental extras.

They mimic the box, so no this is how theyll look.

Since the box is also all black, I don't think the figures have been altered or anything... and yet the full-sized ones have their natural colors! Sooooooooooooo straaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaange
I like the funko molds, but they've always been too expensive for me. These are much smaller, but they look really weird. Is it too much to hope that they'll be released in non-black later?

Oh, those are really cool! I had kind of suspected they'd make pony blind boxes, but making them black like the box artwork was unexpected. Gah! I really don't need to be collecting another size, but these'll be hard to resist if I see them in person. Still, probably too expensive and I've already decided to cut back.
I know these are a little smaller, but I really wanna see how they measure up to Hasbro's brushables side-by-side. They're skinnier for sure.
I hope this is also a sign that they might make more of the regular sized vinyls glow-in-the-dark. GITD is awesome. Fact.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm a completionist collector, so if I start this, I'll *need* to have them all, lol!
I'm going to be keeping my eye on Entertainment Earth. They sell tons of Funko and sell the mystery minis by the case, so I'm thinking the MLP minis will show up on the site eventually.

I thought the Spitfire box art looked really cool and now here is a miniature in the same colors so I'll be getting that one for sure. I kinda wish Octavia wasn't black since she doesn't stand out much with her already dark hair but at least there's the large version that should have the regular color scheme.

Toywiz are notorious for over pricing. I would make sure you cant get them cheaper elsewhere first.

These are bigger than the Hasbro blind bags and are closer in size to the brushables tho slightly smaller.

The way the press release reads, they are one of each per 12 pack box, so I'll wait until I can get them in a full box somewhere.

Today we cleaned out our master bedroom closet shelves that will house all of our future Funko ponies and large talking ponies. So excited!! We even have a display case that should fit all 12 if they are small enough! I wonder how tall they are?

i am totally geeking out on this set! and guess what i was shopping around taobao for some baits :) and found the funko mini's!!! some sellers want ALOT for the set but i found one seller who had it cheep (like $30 shipped cheep) here is hoping that i get all 12 since thats the option i chose. :biggrin:

Are you very sure you are getting the entire box? Taobao appears to be selling the Funkos for higher than street value- most of those auctions where you think you may be getting the entire box- you are getting ONE pony. You might want to check with your agent.
I THOUGHT that I saw all of the Funko listings on Taobao- and that prices sounds about right for one pony- the listings for the entire box work out to more like $190.

Oh wow more types than we thought then! I've pretty much decided to stick with the big funko's though. Now I'm a little glad for it given all the different variations. These do look really neat though. I like the black and especially the gitd ones are cool looking.

Either that or the idea was scrapped entirely and the close-up photos are just from a prototype from the time of the old box design, before so many people got sad about the ponies not having their regular skintones.

Either that or the idea was scrapped entirely and the close-up photos are just from a prototype from the time of the old box design, before so many people got sad about the ponies not having their regular skintones.

I bought a glitter Doctor Whooves on Toywiz, and they never told me when they shipped it.
I just randomly got it one day. Toywiz is a very difficult website to recommend. Everything is overpriced and not very user friendly. It seems Toywiz and Funko were lying to us. I thought I was getting a full set but it seems like I'll need to buy a lot more. Hopefully I can cancel this pre-order.

So the show accurate ponies are 1/24. I never could figure out why some site are saying you will get one of each pony if you buy a set. Funko has never done it like that in the past to my knowledge. On the Funko forum people have bought other sets and got duplicates and not all the figures.

Yep same with the POP figures they are even worse for me I don't collect those and will not. The regular Funko ponies are the best and wish they would just spend more of the time energy and money on perfecting those than making all these sets.

Looks like the glow in the dark ponies are gone too, must be why they had the delay on them, possibly to add cutie marks to both sides as well? Since all releases they said will have CM on both sides. (although that was referring to the regular sized ones)

A girl on the Funko Forum got a case of these and recieved 1 of each of the 12 figures from the orginal press release. So I am not sure what is going on with those other pictures with the show accurate ponies. Maybe that was the original plan and they scraped it or those will be coming out in the next set.

Its a little too much like the Hasbro repeat and release thing at the moment - main vinyl line, mini vinyls, POP, cupcakes...all of the same 4 ponies plus 6 other characters. So of all the Funko releases in all the different ways they have been released, have we really only had 10 characters so far?

Well, I found an email with a transaction that is about the right price on paypal to toywiz around September 27th when I would have been looking at these for the first time. So that must be the order. But I still can't log in and they definitely never sent them. Guess that means they will be shipped Janurary. I hope.

What I'm thinking is that there's 2 different types of boxes.
The first one is the one that many people preordered that contains all the black ponies and the gitd variants.
Then Hot topic exclusive box that has the normal colored ones and no gitd variants.
That said, I saw these at my local Hot Topic when I went out shopping on friday. I regret not picking one up and/or counting how many were in that box since it looked like a brand new freshly brought out box.

I only want the ones I want and don't want to have to try to sell the rest or have to buy a whole bunch just to get that one. That is what is so great about the blind bags.
My guess is that those are Hot Topic exclusives so if I want them I would be better off just buying them on ebay if anyone ever puts them on there. Although I am not sure yet if I want them. Since they will be the same as the vinyls just smaller.

Agree. And they're so pricey that I don't want to risk getting one I don't want =/ I only really want Lyra and Fluttershy, maybe Bonbon or Octavia. Which wasn't so bad when there were only 12 and now...Oh well. Hopefully someone won't want those and will sell them.

So on the Funko forum someone did indeed report that they got a box of 12 and got all 12...and by all 12 I mean all the black ponies plus one each of the GITD.
It looks like one general release box which has the 12 we knew about and then 1 special box...probably Hot Topic...with the break down Violet mentioned.

I already have a couple of the normal sized Funkos and really don't need to start collecting another size, so I won't be buying these. I like them though; they look nice. I like that the eyes have gradients the way they're supposed to. I wish the larger ones did too.

Toywiz confirmed through twitter that there are only 12 different funko minis, and that the box of 12 has one of each.

I have the full 'regular retail' set of 12 and the boxes are not easy to open. They are in black bags in the boxes and then the boxes are glued shut.

The descriptions I've read say that the boxes are glued shut and the figures wrapped in a black bag, so no one can open it and then take it back to the store if it's not the one they want.
Which would be an incredibly rude move anyway, since they'd then be impossible to sell, so I don't blame them.

I'm almost positive once the larger molds are released they will do the next 12 ponies in this size as well in wave two of the minis.
In case anyone is wondering all 12 of these ponies are the exact same ones released in the larger sized funkos, they just scaled them down.

So far the ones I opened were nice, only a very minor rub from that black plastic bag, only one has a seam/rough area on one side, and one a a stray paint marks that might come off.

Yes - they are only being found in boxes which are branded Hot Topic so it would appear they are exclusives.

Dangit- I just read back and saw that too- what a bummer, so the "show accurate" ponies are the Chase ponies in these, and only for Hot Topic and only 1 in 24. I am NOT buying another case of these just in the off chance there may be a correctly colored Pinkie or Dash- cripes!

Oh, this is such a relief after reading the rest of this thread. There was a post linked on reddit about the chase/variant figures making the boxes totally random and I got really worried since I had ordered a box from Toywiz (based completely on the fact that it said a complete set).
So I'm so happy to see that the randomized cases are Hot Topic exclusives. I'm totally happy missing out on the truly random boxes and chase figures. (Plus, given how much Hot Topic overcharges for the blind bags, I cringe to think what they're charging for the Funko minis.) I may not care totally about having a complete set, but I still wanted 9 of the 12, making it better to just get a complete set.

I love both the black bodied and the full color ones. And I really love this size, too. I've not collected the big Funkos because they need more space than I have to give them at the moment. These little ones are just my size!
I bought a bunch of these from HT and sure enough, got some full-color ones! Sadly, I don't get to keep them. Must sell ponies to pay for more ponies! (And, you know, bills.) Anyone looking to pick and choose might give my sale thread a browse... ;)

Interestingly enough, they're not black plastic! My spitfire's tail came loose, so I just pulled it off, and when I look in the hole you can see the real color of the vinyl, which is white. So I wouldn't recommend keeping one in your purse.

Conveniently enough I already had the perfect scale that I use to weigh my tea, compact and battery powered. I don't think it would be that big of a deal since I've never gotten a strange look when looking at the codes for the blind bags. I imagine they're used to dealing with obsessed fans of different fandoms already. XD

I got 1 Pinkie Pie, 1 Dr. Hooves, 1 Vinyl Scratch, 1 :muffin: Pony Hooves, and 1 Rainbow Dash, it was 2 of every black excpect fluttershy which was 1 :) I was lucky enough not to miss any! They just put it out and I snagged it!

I was so sad - I went into Hot Topic the other day to buy some of these blind boxes, hoping for one of the real-color variants, and they were SOLD OUT! It was so sad! Thankfully, the TWO glittery Funko Octavias were able to comfort me... @.@

There are pictures- you have to scroll back a few pages though. Not sure where the pic appears. They do in fact, unsurprisingly, look like small versions of the big ones. Surprisingly, they haven't really been all that hard to find. I've seen them popping up on ebay all over the place, and selling for $12-15

Ah, sorry! I was with my friend at the time, who is also a collector, so we were both excited to find sparklies! And with the BOGO+half off sale, we got them for $12.75 each!!! :D And my local HT has only ever had like, three sparkly Funkos - EVER!

if I get 20 @ 7.50 , that is going to be 150 with hot cash that will be 75 plus tax and maybe shipping will be something like 86 dllrs, so each will be like 4.3 dllrs .
Since I do not have any of them , I guess there is less chances to have too many doubles
or I can go by the weighting guide posted on here ,and any that weight the same ,then is one to return or exchange at the store

I ordered to cases worth, to maximize my chances of getting all five of the exclusives. Unfortunately, I had already ordered a set from Toywiz back when they had a sale, so I will definitely have a LOT of extra ponies.

I got my case of 12 in! I opened just one for right now since im sick and saving the resr for opening vid, wow im sooo impressed with these! I need the 4 show accurate ones and i will be a VERY happy camper! =) these are WAY better quality than the big ones, my :muffin: Pony is flawless!!

Who knows with HT. I THINK the HT ponies also come in a box of 12- but also have the colored ones mixed in, but I don't know for sure. Someone on here bought a box in person so maybe they can say.

I was at the Hot Topic, they had some there, but even with bogo sale they seem to expensive to me 11.25 for 2 = 5.60 plus tax , my calculations tell me there is a chance to get them for 4.30 plus tax during the hot cash sale next month :)

So excited for the UK to get them! I'm less iffy about the price (I think they're gonna be £5.99?) now I can see they're about the same size as a brushable pony =P A pity I don't have any brick & mortar stores nearby that will stock them but as they're truly blind boxed it doesn't matter so much.

I think they are widely released - but right now Hot Topic is claiming the "show accurate" colored ones as a Hot Topic exclusive. But that may just mean exclusive for a couple of months? Who knows with HT. I THINK the HT ponies also come in a box of 12- but also have the colored ones mixed in, but I don't know for sure. Someone on here bought a box in person so maybe they can say.
I see them on Toywiz.com, BBTS, somebody on the Arena is an authorized dealer (scroll back to find their post),
I agree the quality is really good on these!
The Hot Topic box looked as though it was 24 in a box - 2 rows of 12 ponies. With the split meaning you get 2 of all the black ponies except for Fluttershy who you only get one of. However, I would think we would need more conformation than one box on whether or not it is always FS you only get one black one of :)
OMG I am going to be seriously bummed If I ordered 24 ponies and only get 1 "show accurate" colored one... guess I'll find out soon!
Its a bit odd though...why would they list boxes of 12 when their exclusive boxes are in sets of 24? [you can see the box in an earlier post].
I am going to keep everything crossed the 12 is an accidental listing and it should read 24...and you get double the amount of ponies you have ordered :P

So I had ordered two sets of 12- thinking they would just ship them as entire boxes. I was really just trying to take advantage of the $10 off coupon and $1 shipping. So I guess someone will just be grabbing ponies at random out of a box - so I have as good or as bad a chance as anyone of getting a colored one. HOPEFULLY I luck out and get more than five colored, instead of none at all, but either is a distinct possibility.
I am actually surprised how quickly they sold out online, and a little disappointed, since I was hoping to do some swapping with other people that had the same idea. I keep checking the site and they are still sold out...

So I finally sorted out the dups that I have and here they are as follows: 1 RBD, 1 Oct, 1 DJ, 1 Flutter, 2 :muffin: Pony, 1 Lyra, 1 Spitfire. They're all the original black ones, none are the colored dup or GiD. If anyone needs, just PM me.

Ahhh...I thought it meant they had listed complete "boxes" and in the boxes were quantities of 12. So you placed 2 orders for 1 box in each order rather than 2 orders with 12 boxes in each order [if that makes sense...I will be surprised :P].
Well 2 sets of 12 makes 24...so I am going to seriously hope they decide just to ship you everything in one go and in one box.

The regular colored versions are available only in the Hot Topic exclusive set.
There are two different sets, the Hot Topic set comes in cases of 24, with 15 unique ponies. The non-Hot Topic exclusive set comes in cases of 12 with 12 unique ponies. There are 10 pony overlaps between the two sets (the 10 black ones). The Hot Topic exclusive has 5 show accurate colored ponies (and in a case of 24, there are doubles of all of the black ones except for Fluttershy) and the 2 glow-in-the-dark ones are exclusive to the non-Hot Topic sets.

No, I shocked the daylights out of all three employees by taking the entire display case to the register. The third guy actually came out from the back to see what was up. They didn't say they thought I was nuts, but... :P

They sent me a bunch of random loose- it was really irritating- but it was sort of my fault though, I ordered 12 and 12 so I could apply the $10 coupon twice- and apparently they ran out.

I found a box at Target today! They were in the trading card isle. They had 5 left and I bought all 5. I ended up with :muffin: Pony, Rainbow Dash, Spitfire, Fluttershy and glow in the dark Vinyl Scratch.

I was hoping for Bubblebutt, either version, though I wanted the glow in the dark one more. I would have been fine with Bon Bon as well. Now I remember why I don't like buying blind boxed items. I get no fun in it because I mostly have bad luck and never get the ones I want.

The show-accurate ponies are a little different than the larger releases, I think! The finish satiny instead of shiny, and the cutie mark is present on both sides. :) Unfortunately, I no longer have one in-hand to take close-up photos of!

I probably wouldn't have so much of an issue with buying them blind if they were cheaper. With how small they are, combined with the fact they're packaged blind, I don't think they should cost more than $4-5 at most. I was kind of surprised when I went to buy them at Target and they came to $19 and some change for the three. There was no tag for them on the shelf and since I didn't originally plan on buying them I hadn't researched their price. I just kind of bought them on a whim when the other items I was there looking for weren't in stock and I didn't want to leave empty handed.

Pinkies eyes look different more oval shaped maybe a couple others, could be just that they look different because of the size, but I think some of the eyes on the ponies look more oval. Cutie marks on both sides for all minis, when the larger ones only the new ones have that. Otherwise I think everything else is basically the same.

I haven't seen them in person, but this is what I've noticed from pictures.
Aside from not having the eye indents: Fluttershy's eyes are a different shape (possibly the first thing I noticed about these minis), Spitfire's eyes look less "sleepy", and I believe they all have proper gradients. And as already mentioned, cutie marks on both sides and a different texture/finish. Also, it looks like their heads and bodies are all one molded piece instead of being two separate ones glued together and the info is molded on the inner hind leg instead of on the belly.
I'm not collecting this size, so only have pictures to go on. Please (kindly) correct me if I'm wrong.

Best of luck I called my Hot Topic because I'm trying to return one of my extra Bon Bons that came broken, and they said they don't think they will get anymore of these, they said it's possibile but he said usually items come once, and sometimes the get more, but not normally now that I think of it the larger ones are the same, the don't even have any and every time I go it's like maybe 0-5 ponies in the large size. They hardly ever get more. I miss the days when they had like 20 Fluttershys and 20 Dr. Hooves... Why don't the barely ever order any now....

I for sure think they will restock online, but stores are very questionable especially since the stores are so small, I would snab them up as fast as possible at the store to be safe. Has anyone else noticed they don;t restock very often the MLP figures?

They look like mini cast moulds of the larger ones, so I am curious as to where and how they are different thats all. Obviously they are different moulds as they are different sizes. Yes, and I'm trying to help you. I wouldn't say they are "very different", but there were changes made, which means they aren't simply shrunken versions of the larger ones. For instance, the larger ones have the manufacturer/copywrite information on their belly, but on the smaller ones there isn't enough room there so it was moved to the inner side of the legs. So there are differences in the mold, aside from size, but I find that the thing that sets them apart the most is the texture and paint job. These make the quality the only thing I would call a "significant difference". I'm still waiting for someone to confirm if the head/body/wings are all molded together now, rather than being separate pieces glued together.

Yeah- I think that they used the same mold/design. I'm actually not sure if the Funko prototypes are designed on a computer or hand sculpted- but either way I know that it is easy once you have a shape to shrink or expand the size. Minor changes like moving the manufacturing stamp would not be a big deal.
Brilliant move on Funko's part- they can sell essentially the same design again, which no doubt costs even less to produce and virtually no design money.

It may be brilliant, but to be honest I'm not very happy about it yes they are awesome, but they really have slowed down on showing and giving us new normal sized funko ponies... which makes me sad.

Ah, perhaps I see the problem. Are you sure you read my entire first reply to you? Sounds like you may have just skimmed it and missed something. Also, I'm sorry I accused you of being defensive if you weren't; that's just the way it read to me.
You're right, it does sound like there could be a terminology problem, too. People generally consider the heads of the brushables to be different "molds" because of eye differences, so I don't know why this case would be any different. Is there anything else you still want to know? Yes, there are some slight changes to the mold (and eye shapes), but, as has been said, the overall look/design is the same.

I don't want an argument but perhaps if you did feel I was being defensive, Aquatic Neon, it was because I felt a little dismissed when I was simply trying to understand why some people were judging it a different mould. And I do not quite understand why there was a problem asking the questions, even if I had to ask a couple of times in order to grasp it. I've managed to track down most of the ones I wanted. There's just two I still want (show accurate Pinkie and glow in the dark Bubblebutt/Muffin Pony) and the prices they're going for are what's keeping me from grabbing them just yet. I did manage to snap up a show accurate Bubblebutt, but the money I spent on her is the reason I'm not sure if I want to spend any more on these. I think I may still end up buying glow in the dark Bubblebutt, though, because I already have the other versions of her.
EDIT: Well, I just bought both of the glow in the dark minis on eBay. I only paid $26 for both of them, including shipping, so I don't think I did too bad, considering that I kept seeing them going for $20 a piece.

The prices on eBay are all over the place for the regular colored ones. I've seen some go for a 'reasonable amount' (about double the retail). But lately some have gone as Hugh as $35 which is just crazy to me.
I'm hoping to get the last regular colored one I need at a reasonable price.
Shorty boo- congrats on getting the last ones you wanted. I agree the price you got them for is excellent considering what some of the glows or regular colored ones.

I wonder if they'll do more show accurate colored minis? I know I'd love to have show accurate minis of Fluttershy, Lyra and Octavia. I don't have room for many of the bigger ones (I just have Fluttershy, Bubblebutt and both SDCC ponies) but I really like the size of the minis.

The black ones have symbols too, so I'm not sure why that's irrelevant. Unless you're only interested in the show-accurate ones.
To summarize, they are different molds, but are made to essentially look the same.
Looking closer, it looks like the wings might be molded rather than glued on, as well. Can anyone confirm for me?

Yes, and I'm trying to help you. I wouldn't say they are "very different", but there were changes made, which means they aren't simply shrunken versions of the larger ones. For instance, the larger ones have the manufacturer/copywrite information on their belly, but on the smaller ones there isn't enough room there so it was moved to the inner side of the legs. So there are differences in the mold, aside from size, but I find that the thing that sets them apart the most is the texture and paint job. These make the quality the only thing I would call a "significant difference". I'm still waiting for someone to confirm if the head/body/wings are all molded together now, rather than being separate pieces glued together.

I honestly can't wait to get home and conduct a thorough analysis of whether the design is the same. I think that Funko designs its prototypes on a 3D program and then has them printed out by a prototyping company. I'm pretty sure they did take those original designs and just shrink them to make the blind bag ponies- but will take a closer look tonight :D

I just happened to be at Target today so I ventured into the card aisle and bought two of the Funko minis. I got home and opened them and found I got Octavia and Pinkie Pie (and wow they really don't want you to know what's in there--wrapped in a black plastic bag and in a box with double flaps on top!)
However, despite people saying here in this thread that the paint is higher quality, I was very disappointed to see that both of the two I bought have issues with the paint. :\ I guess I just have bad luck when it comes to this sort of thing. I'm a picky collector so I'll probably end up trading/selling these to a less picky collector. Pinkie Pie has derped eyes pretty bad, when looking at her from the front. And Octavia has scratches in her cutie mark on both sides. :( So pretty much I spent $12 for nothing. But I do find them very cute, and I love that they have cutie marks on both sides, so I might give in and buy some others.

That stinks that your order was cancelled! It's weird that they would do that but still have them listed as being available for preorder. Maybe it was an error in their system?

I couldn't wait for Hot Topic's sale - I bought one at Target today! Dr. Whooves, what a cutie! They're quite high quality for such a small figure; however, at $5.99, it's still more expensive than I'd like for that size. :/ It's a conundrum! But then, I generally think that Funko's products are overpriced.
Also, for the record, whenever I tell someone 'just go Google it,' I'm basically saying 'go learn yourself a thing instead of bugging me,' so I could definitely see how that would sound pretty dismissive! (Admittedly, most people are not as snarky as I am! ;) So I may be off my rocker on this, LOL!) What we really need to do is have a side-by-side comparison of the toys - I'm tempted to do one myself!

Hot Topic stores are tiny, and they have to rotate their feature areas around. I don't think that this necessarily means that FIM is dying out. :)
I have a show-colors Muffin Pony coming in soon from Galactica. I have the regular sized Funko of her, too, so I'll see if I can take some nice comparison shots to share!

No I don't think that's it, I think for whatever reason the stores aren't ordering that much of it to sell at the store not sure why since people are buying all 24 minis the day the got them (like me) how is that dying out haha. I think it's partly because besides the minis they haven't had much new stuff to sell, and since things sell so fast they are selling it faster than they are getting more.

Well I did not get to go to any hot topic the 2 closest ones ,I decided to call ahead and both of them did not have any :(
so I went to Target and they had 7 ,stopped at another one and they have 11
I grabed all of them and I will try to do the weight IDing and see if I get my 2 GID ponies and I will return the rest LOL
they were almost 7 dllrs after taxes, so It is a better deal to get the black ones from HT , during the sale or at their normal bogo 50% sales at the stores (;

I caved in and got 11 at one target and 7 at another one :) i was hoping to find the 2 GITD but only found Muffins GITD and 6 more that I did not have :)
So now my black regular set is complete
And i have 3 more show accurate to get and DJpon3 GITD :)
The weighting reference did not help me maybe because mine are not from hot topic (:

My boyfriend found me a GITD DJ pony. She's pretty cool! I like that she almost looks like her actual color. She's chilling with my mini Lyra and my larger funkos :P

Show accurate ponies are only part of the Hot Topic exclusives. The Hot Topic ones come in cases of 24 and 5 of those are the show accurate colors. The other 19 are 1 black Fluttershy and 2 blacks of each of the other 9 ponies. There are no GitD ones in the Hot Topic exclusives.
For reference the non Hot Topic set comes in a case of 12 and there are no duplicates at all, just 10 of the black ponies and 2 GitD.

I got my two glow in the dark minis today. Unfortunately, the seller wrapped them together in bubble wrap and now :muffin: has blue marks on her tail from DJ P0N-3's mane. I might try to see if Magic Eraser can remove it.

I have Octavia and GITD :muffin: Pony... and it's taking a lot of willpower to not buy an entire box to complete my collection. The black bodies wierded me out at first, but I really like these molds. The regular Funkos are just too large for the space I have available for ponies right now. Sigh. The life of a wanna-be collector who still lives in their parent's house. I'll probably just buy one here and there, as I've been doing, and see what I end up with whenever my willpower gives out on me.

If you buy 24 from Hot Topic, as long as they send you a complete box you will get one of everything [plus some black doubles] minus the 2 GITDs. You could probably trade a couple of your spare blacks for GITDs or pick them up individually. The problem is if HT send you 24 individuals rather than the complete case...then you may get a mix of them.

What?! But - a 'case' is 24, isn't it? I can understand stopping people from ordering, say, hundreds, but five ponies isn't even the full SET, much less a full case! If you want one of each pony, are you just out of luck, then?

That's why people are trying to order Hot Topic cases of 25, because the "5" are show accurate versions, aka full color minis that are in random Hot Topic cases. IIRC, you need to get the regular set to get the GlowntheDarks, so buying one set from either / or won't net you a true complete set. I just bought the show accurate ones I needed. :)

I'd be cautious about buying 24 and hoping that you get a case unless they specifically say that buying 24 will give you an unopened case. I know there were some other sites for the GitD set that offered a case, but said that there was no guarantee that you'd get all 12 (unlike Toywiz, which did guarantee an entire case).

My favorite comic shop came through for me yet again! It took them a day to actually find it in the back, but they let me buy a whole sealed box, and it was only a little bit more expensive than BBTS would have been. Now I just need a Hot Topic show accurate :muffin: Pony for my army. :)

I called in to get them and they did not give me a code like in the past :(
this time they asked me to place the order and called them back with the order number and then they will apply it, after dealing with the stock numbers going up and down, I was able to make an order with 24 ( hoping I get a full case) ,It was a bit of a wait for me to be able to grab the 24 , they kept going down from 24 to 20 then 17 , so i guess people were ordering some and your cart was being updated , I was trying to find the Discord Box, but it was sold out, by the time I was ready to pay, they only had 1, LOL , so I waited a while and then they place more on stock and i was able to grab 24 and paid for them on time, then I called and the lady was not wanting to apply more than 30 ????!!!,I requested a supervisor and then she came back saying the manager gave her the ok to give me the discount and that she applied it and my new total was half of the original and well I pretty much got a 90 dllrs discount this way.
I just hope is a full set ,otherwise I might not get the ones I'm after .

I found a box of 9 at target and of course both gitd and lrya were gone ugh. I just need the real color pinkie since I got super lucky with the others but I refuse to pay $30 for pinkie. I spent $10.50 on ditzy doo. I just wanted a few more Lyra to customize but I can't find her:( I have a bunch of other black ones I can trade if anyone has a double:)

I only found 4 out of the 5 show accurates, they did not send me a set of 24 , they had them all loose in the shipping box
so I have a lot of extras that I will sell in lots

I have picked up 1 or 2 of these when I go to Target, and EVERY time I end up with a Pinkie Pie! It's like she's a curse.
I have been going to Hot Topic every time I drive by the mall, hoping to get a couple of the rare colored ones. But each time I go, the shelf is empty. Today, of course the same. But then I noticed one MLP box tucked into a box full of other Dr Who blind boxes. I was thinking: "Wow this one was overlooked! Maybe my luck has finally changed, maybe it will even be one of the rare ones!" I buy it and like a little kid I open the box as soon as I get out to my car.

Dragonflitter, don't feel bad, you're not alone. All I need is the true colors of Rainbow & Pinkie, the black Lyra, both glow in the darks... The last 7 boxes I got were all doubles! I now have 2 black Rainbows, 2 black Pinkies, & 3 black Dr. Hooves :argh:. Going to see about trading/selling to get the ones I want to prevent anymore blind box rage :yucky:

Well I think they are marketed at collectors though, don't you think? Whether they be kids or adults- Funko cashes in on the "catch them all" thing.
The problem with NOT buying the entire box- is that you will end up with four of the same four characters- and none of the rest. Thats why I bought the box. I tried doing it the other way when Hot Topic came out with its own variations (by buying a bunch) but ended up with a TON of duplicates (the black ones which I sold at a loss) and swapped out the colored dups until I finally had a complete set. What a pain! I wish I had been able to buy an entire case of the darned HT ones too...

I'm so glad I bought the whole box when I saw it because buying them randomly sounds like a nightmare, I also had a box from toywiz, so I still had to sell at least 2 of each of the black versions, but I did just fine and sold them for basically what I paid for them.

I totally understand what you guys are saying, I do understand that these were specifically marketed to collectors and not to kids. It's just sad and frustrating that I can't even buy a couple because every place I go to has an empty box sitting on the shelf. >.<
Another reason I feel this way is that I have a guy friend on Facebook (not a pony collector) who recently posted a frustrated status update because his daughter really wants the normal colored Funko ponies, not the black ones, and HotTopic.com has been sold out so he can't get any for her. So even though these are marketed at older collectors, that doesn't mean younger kids aren't going to hear about them and want them. And of course they're going to want the ones that are colored like the tv show characters, which Funko annoying made the 'rare' and 'exclusive' ones. :\
Sigh. Just frustrating all around.

Agree, so much! Ugh, it's so frustrating to walk into my local Hot Topic, week after week, and see the empty box. (This week, they put the Discord card-boxes into the empty box, just so it looked less pathetic!)
All I want is some NORMAL colored ponies! Is it so hard? Why can't the "sought after" ones be sparkly, or some other sort of 'special'?

O.o Target also sells these? Are they in the pony aisle/section or near the Trading Cards area? I've never seem them at Target, or any sign of the for that matter. xD
For the most part, I really dislike blind box-type things like this because I usually get the character(s) I don't like or want (especially when it comes to JPN blind box figures/gashapons for anime and videogame characters). Add me to the ones that would sooner shell out more bucks to get the exact character I want than take a chance with a blind box. ^^; With the blind bag ponies, at least if you know the code, you know what pony is inside (does it still work like that now with the BBs?)
I used to seem the boxes often in my HT stores, but now they're always gone. But they always seem to be at my TRU whenever I go.
I am bummed out, because I caved in last weekend, got a box, and actually got a pony I like - Lyra.
The kicker? Poor Lyra's tail is broken, right out of the package/box. Dx Luckily, I can super glue it back on, but I'm all like "Gosh, the ONE time I get a character I wanted or like via blind box, and this happens. ". xD

Add me to the frustrated buyers. I get there popular but the scalpers annoy me (same with BBs). My local Wally-World is about to stop carrying BBs due to theft and opened packages.
I'm grown, so it's easy for me to find another store that sells them (or buy online). While annoying I can roll with it. What truly irks me is the kids getting short changed due to stupid and selfish adults.

I can kind of see both sides of this, I guess!
On one hand, I'm kind of glad that people buy these things to resell, because they're blind-boxed and I was really only interested in a few of them. The "scalper" prices can be high, but in cases like this, I'm willing to pay extra in order to get the exact toy I want instead of buying piles and piles of them in hopes of getting lucky.
On the other hand, it's a real bugger when everybody else grabs up the things you want to buy, especially if they're not a fellow fan!

I bought one from Barnes and Noble today, and went to a nearby park to open it. Got a third Lyra, haha. A few minutes later, a tiny little girl with her dad approached me. She was super sweet, so I pulled Lyra 3 out of my purse and gave her the pony :) I don't think she understood that I was actually giving it to her, so I handed it to her dad instead. But she was playing with Lyra as I was leaving. Made me feel good to make her happy :)
I've gotten to the point where I'm only missing four of the non-Hot Topic ones, though, and now almost all the ones I pull are repeats. I do have all the ones I wanted from the outset, though - Lyra, Octavia, glow in the dark muffin pony. I'm only missing the Doc, Bon Bon, Pinkie and Fluttershy. It's probably better for me to just buy those ones online at this point...but I love the thrill of the blind box! Haha.

Well thanks to my friends and my fiance I have 9 out of the 12 original ponies. Right now I am missing Octavia, Bon Bon, and Muffin Glow in the Dark pony. I also lucked out that the ones who had busted tails when I got them my fiance was able to fix with a little bit of super glue. The only downside was the super glue left a white kinda film on the body right around the base of the tail, but luckily I display them from the front so you won't see them anyway. I hope I can find the last 3 soon though.

I think retail would be about right - there are just so many of them about at the moment probably because of so many people after the chase characters and ending up with doubles and trebles...
How about working out how much your fees will be and adding them on, then listing as a BIN at that combined price that way you at least make your money back.
And if you are customising the best idea is acetone and a hair dryer - the tail is just on with glue so should come off. But it may take some time to dissolve it.

My funko "luck" strikes again! I've gotten four more of these over the past two weeks, and instead of getting one of the four I'm missing, they've all been repeats - including a third GitD DJ pony, haha. I don't even like DJ Pony! One glow in the dark version of her was cool cause my boyfriend found her for me and she is neat, but heck I don't need three :'D I think I'm done with getting these from in store, at least from non-Hot Topic places. Too many repeats.
If anyone wants to trade a GitD DJ (or regular :muffin: Pony, Spitfire, or Octavia) for a Fluttershy, Bon Bon, and Doc. Whooves, I'm open!

Yeah, I've been hand weighing them at the store. PP, FS and DW are the easiest to pick out due to the weight (DW being the lightest) The rest, unless you have a scale handy, is a crap shoot.

I got my GiD DJ Pon-3 and Bubble Butt today. I bought them from Ebay, from two different sellers, which turns out were one and the same person as both figures arrived in the same bubble envelope.

I found a mini box today and bought my niece one too. We had fun opening them in the coffee shop and the barista hurried over to see which we ones got. I now have Bubbles and my niece got Sweetie Drops. Next week, we are going to try again. She wants Pinkie Pie and I would like Lyra.

I just painted Octavia, FS, and Lyra to look like themselves (instead of black) and I think it came out okay! I'll have to post pix I guess later :D

I did find a bigger selection at TRU but every time I went into Barnes and Nobles there were always boxes and I went back a couple times within several weeks. So I guess it depends on the store.

Unfortunately not......I thought they were the same as the blind bags...I was disappointed when I found out there was no codes. Especially since the first 2 that I got were the exact same one and they aren't cheap either. 7 dollars a piece adds up.
And I saw on the Hot Topic web site right now they have the blind box ones that include the regular color ones...on sale for like 5.

If you want to put some effort into it you can get a better idea of which ponies you want (but no guarantees as to which ones you might get) here's a post I made when I got my full box from Toywiz. It's not the Hot Topic box, so I don't know if the show accurate ones are any different.
DISCLAIMER: I can't guarantee the information in this post is going to be consistent across all of the Mystery Minis, this is just my experience with them and I thought I'd share in case someone else wanted to do the same thing and potentially corroborate the information.
I got my box of Mystery Minis from Toywiz yesterday and opened them today. On a hunch I decided to weigh them in the box beforehand, note the weight, and match the identities after opening the boxes.
From heaviest to lightest:
Fluttershy: 77.5g
Pinkie Pie: 75g
Spitfire: 71.9g
DJ Pon-3: 67.8g
Muffin: 66.2g
DJ Pon-3 GitD: 64.8g
Lyra Heartstrings: 64g
Muffin GitD: 63g
Rainbow Dash: 62.5g
Octavia: 61.8g
Sweetie Drops: 61.5g
Dr. Whooves: 56g
As you can see, there's a lot of similar weights in the middle, but if you're looking for Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Spitfire, or Dr. Whooves, there's a significant enough difference that if you're so inclined, if you happen to have a scale, you have a pretty good chance of identifying them, or at least narrowing them down.
I actually expected the GitD ones to be slightly heavier, but they turned out to be the exact opposite. (Of course I don't know if the GitD sets have started showing up in stores anywhere yet, so we're probably stuck on the Hot Topic exclusive ones still.)
(And here's the order they were in the box, though I suspect this will mean very little)
Top row, back left to right: Pinkie Pie, Octavia
Top row, middle left to right: Sweetie Drops, Lyra Heartstrings
Top row, front left to right: Muffin GitD, DJ Pon-3 GitD
Bottom row, back left to right: Fluttershy, Muffin
Bottom row, middle left to right: Dr. Whooves, Rainbow Dash
Bottom row, front left to right: DJ Pon-3, Spitfire
edit: Just for a little bit more information, it looks like there's a slight variance in how much the boxes weighed, but only by about a gram. Comparing the weights of the individual figures outside of the box compared to in the box, the difference was usually between 22g and 23g. So even if you have an accurate scale, it looks like the best you can do for a few is to just narrow your chances. (For example, between Rainbow Dash, Lyra, and the two GitD ones.)

That box order appears to be correct. I grabbed one this morning from a full box in a comic store, the front left one, and got GITD Dizzy Hooves. Hopefully they'll still have the same box when I go back, untouched, so I can get Lyra and mebbe Spitfire....
I also find it hilarious that the mini I got has better quality and painting than my full size SDCC Dizzy and the two full size Lyras the shop had...

They're setting off a lot of fakie red flags for me... sudden appearance in large numbers from a lot of sellers, only a subset of molds (DJ, RD, PP, Bubblecup), and abnormally cheap prices. I'm seeing multiple listings of about $20 for all twelve of them and that's just not in line with what I've seen of the minis' pricing.

I was actually surprised when I saw the Funko MLP Series 1 exclusives were just 1/24. Compared to the other series of Funko blind boxes out there (horror movie villains, Disney characters, Game of Thrones characters, How To Train Your Dragon, etc.) that is a really not bad chase figure odds at all.
The Funko Disney blind boxes have even worse exclusives. There's a Belle figure and a Timon figure that are 1/144. Yes, one out of every 144 boxes has one of those exclusive figures. o.0 That's crazy.

Your post got me thinking: if he isnt a GitD, i think he just might be a "stone/statue" version. You know, like how he was locked up in stone as a statue for all those years before he broke free? I admit, that is pretty neat/interesting, considering.
...I could still potentially paint that, though. xD I do have some pearl acrylic paint I could use on a Discord, so he could look all fancy, lol. Like a marble statue or something.

But the Discord art on the box is pretty much how Funko has illustrated their GitD figures lately.

However I dont mind the idea of a chase figure - I just dont think it should be the show-accurate ones that are the 1/72 chases (as much as I hate the term show-accurate when it comes to MLP). ^^; Glitters? Yeah. GitD? Totally. Show-accutare onew? I just feel it's wrong.

Assuming the current price of $8.50 per single box and Hot Topic's frequent BOGOHO everything deal, that's only $459 plus tax (so just shy of $500 for most of us) for a complete set (with extras!)

Yes but that assumes you get 1 in the 72 that you buy. The nature of odds means that even if you buy 72 of them...you may not get the 1:72 option.

yeah, I bought the disney funkos because i wanted awesome blue dress belle. i have 2 of the 1/24 chance ariels and missed some of the others. complete luck of the draw, it seems. unless you can get 6 boxes that were in sequence in production i think probably not good odds.

I pre-ordered a box from Toywiz because they claimed a full box would have a full set (and it did, 2 GitD ones plus 10 black ones). And now that the second series has even worse odds than the first series, I REALLY have no interest in getting any of the chase figures.
But on the plus side, Toywiz DOES have the second series listed as being a full set, implying that it'll work like the first set.
However on the downside they only have 10 figures listed as being in the full set (7 black ones, regular colored Trixie, Twilight, and Discord,) but 12 boxes in the set. So that could mean a couple of things, a box is actually just 10 ponies, there are two duplicates in the set, or they have no idea what is actually going to be in there and are just speculating.

The regular set of series two includes those 10 figures + duplicates of black Big McIntosh & black Discord.
so it is just worst all around , on series 1 there was no duplicates on the regular set, hot topic set were doubles or triples I guess, but now even the regular set has 2 doubles , and never mind with Hot Topic.:)

But on the plus side, Toywiz DOES have the second series listed as being a full set, implying that it'll work like the first set.

That is true. I do find it funny that usually by the time I wait for the prices to drop, I either dont want it anymore (which isn't so bad, since it saves money) or it's the one everyone wants and hasnt dropped at all. xD
I dunno, I guess I am a tad impatient when it comes to something I really want. It's why I try to not do blind bags/boxes in gerenal.

Thanks! :) I was shocked (and a mild "...Are you Kidding me?!" xD:) when I opened them up. FS was actually the first box I opened, but Trixie was the first I took out of the black bag they are in.
I am partially tempted to go back there Monday (or tomorrow after work) and grab another box or two.

I think some of them are a bit bigger. Like Big Mac, Discord, Twilight (because of her wings) and Trixie (because of her hat and cape). Those ones might weight more than the regular figures. But the normal ones like Applejack and Rarity, I imagine those are the same size/weight of the Series 1 characters.

Probably re-casts? They could be ponies that FUnko will use in the future, or that got rejected from production. Regardless they are cute- I got the same ones :D
I was tempted by that seller's DJ too since the note symbol is outlined but not colored in- making her a little different. But that isn't quite different enough...

Could people please post some close-ups? :D I'm really eager to see them. I love the matte finish on the minis <3 I'd especially love to see some comparisons of the show accurate Trixie, Twilight, and Discord vs. their black counterparts, as I'm debating whether to get both versions or just the black (though I might get accurate Discord anyway, as he doesn't look as interesting when he's mostly one colour!)

I found these yesterday. I got super lucky and scored a clear glitter Discord! Discord is not my fave, but I do like this variant.
I have several extras and am looking for 2 Rarity's and 1 show accurate Lyra (here's hoping!). Here is a list of my extras:

Oh dear! ;_; I suppose thats not as bad as other blindbox companys but arg! Im assuming that the ponies are places randomly throughout the case as well... I remember with wave 1 all the ponies are placed in a certain spot in the case.
If i find a fresh case that looks like no one has jumbled the boxes up, i will write down where it was located and see whos inside. Maybe it can help other collectors but its probably randomized.

The Disney boxes certainly are just completely random. I found 3 of the 1/24 ariel out of 2 cases! Plus I find 2 1/72 as well

I'm just gonna give a warning for those who want to buy a set of 12 mystery mini funko's on Taobao, Ebay etc. The set contains:
- GITD :muffin: Pony, RD, Dj-pon3 and Pinkie
- Black :muffin: Pony, RD Dj-Pon3 and Pinkie
- Normal coloured :muffin: Pony, RD, Dj-po3 and Pinkie
You can also buy them seperate on Ebay sometimes. But... Imo they are FAKE
- Rainbow Dash mane is completely painted instead of being made out of different coloured sections. Ossie is gonna take some pics later to show it.
- The paint job on some of them is horrible. GITD Dj-pon3 has only the outline of her CM
- The plastic for :muffin: Pony's mane of the GITD is a lot more darker and feels less smooth
- The black bodies also feel less smooth as the official ones and the real ones look much cleaner.
Im gonna write an article about it later this evening but just to warn you all!

I was at TRU today and happened to spot the Series 2 Funko Minis. Combined with the buy one get one 40% off sale I knew that was about the same price as getting a box from ToyWiz so I figured what the heck. Like with Series 1 http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,341400.msg1038834.html#msg1038834 (http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,341400.msg1038834.html#msg1038834) I went ahead and weighed them all before and after opening so if anyone is inclined to try and hunt for figures, they can take a scale in and give it a shot. Like last time, these are just my results and will not guarantee that you'll get what you want and these are for the TRU ones, so there aren't any of the chase figures like there are in the Hot Topic versions.
From heaviest to lightest (including bag, box, and outside wrap):
Daring Do: 72.1g
Big Mac (x2): 69.9g (average of 70.1g and 69.7g)
Twilight Sparkle (color): 68.3g
Twilight Sparkle (black): 67.7g
Applejack: 63.4g
Trixie (color): 63.3g
Trixie (black): 63.0g
Rarity: 58.7g
Discord (black) x2: 55.3g (average of 55.4g and 55.2g)
Discord (color): 55.1g
There's actually a fairly nice divide with the weights, especially since the most desirable characters (Discord, Daring Do, and Big Mac) have very distinct weights. I was surprised since I was actually expecting Discord to be the heaviest of them all, not the lightest.
The weight of the boxes, bags, and outside wraps by themselves was a low of 22.2g, a high of 23.4g, so you're looking at about a 1.2g possible variance outside of the figures. That's good since that narrows down the odds if you're weighing. It should mean you can pick out Discord, Rarity, and Daring Do with no problem.
One odd thing I noticed was that the color versions of Twilight Sparkle and Trixie both weighed a half of a gram more than their black counterparts (no variance in Discord). Unfortunately that's too small to actually help anyone.

Unfortunately the box I grabbed was off the sales floor (I asked if they had one in the back and they did not) and the cashier took the top 6 boxes out and put them back in a different order while she was counting them. I did get all 12, so the box was complete, but I can't say for sure that they were in the same order as they were shipped.
Take this for what you will, but the bottom six (which I never saw moved at all) were Twilight Sparkle black (bottom back left), Applejack (bottom back right), Big Mac (bottom middle row, both left and right), Trixie black (bottom front left), and Rarity (bottom front right).

I found the second set for the first time yesterday at a TRU in the town I have clinicals. I ended up with Big Mac and show accurate PTS. I tried going by weight, also thinking that Discord would be heaviest because I did not want him and tried shaking the boxes to determine which had hats since I was looking for AJ. I completely guessed wrong lol.
So if anyone is willing, I would love to trade show accurate Princess Twilight Sparkle for Applejack.
