How about July 6th? The 5th is a Friday.

Maybe make customs to sell to raise funds for the party?

I'm already planning my customs for the contest :)

Any location is fine by me. I would volunteer to host, since I have a big yard, but I also have 2 kids that would want to interfere too much I think.

Thanks for starting a new thread!  I'm fine with any location. :)

I'd also love to contribute to the party fund with moneys and ponies.  I'll also keep the raffle and goodie bags in mind over the next few months as I shop and will pick up some fun stuff for the party. :)

July 6th sounds good. I think it would be fun to have the party at a revolving location every year, and I'd love to see Maple Valley.

Do we want to give a theme to the novice category? Or should we have a novice category in each theme? I've got a great idea for the strawberry theme, but I probalby won't have time to work on it until after the holidays! I've got three birthdays in december in my family, plus I was planning on trying to make christmas presents this year. :O

I would love to try to contribute to the goodies bags also. I think putting a swatch of hair is a cute idea, since pretty much everyone who came either makes customs or wants to it seemed like.

Hanna I love your idea of having a custom to sell as a fundraiser!

I've got space in my living room I would be happy to share also with any OR peeps who want to stay the night! I'm only about 30 minutes from either Seattle or Maple Valley.

Maple Valley and Seattle are both about equal distance away from me, so either works! :)

Once the holidays are over I'll probably get started on my customs; I think the hardest part is going to be keeping them a secret!

As for fundraising, doing a few customs and selling them or even holding a raffle for them is a great idea.   We would just need to get other pony peeps interested in helping us out :)

I'm already excited for the next party!

So true! One in particular!! I have a feeling I will be smitten on her.

I was thinking novice customizers could enter whatever they want to in the three contest categories and whichever novice gets the most votes in general gets the prize? It's up to the novices:D

I vote Maple Valley, just to give it a try, the drive really doesn't make a ton of difference :) I love to travel. I'd drive to B.C. if I had to :D I think having it move around would be fun :)

I feel like we should have show n tell, customizing demos (I cannot remember which ones we discussed....), awards and yard sale separate. Oh! And what about an ice-breaker/get to know each other game to start? I have a bunch of those :) Like one where everyone gets an index card and writes something unusual about themselves on it, then someone reads them and we have to guess who it is? Also, name tags are a MUST for the next party. I got about 5 names I remember XD I really really can make buttons too XD

I'd love to help with raffle stuff, we could have a raffle here on the Arena maybe? I could donate a pony (or two depending). Maybe a Valentine's raffle with love themed ponies? Or spring ponies?

Would you guys think it was weird if we had a pony mascot for the NW parties?

Oooh- awesome ideas!  Okay so Maple Valley it is!  It sounds like Patti would like to host, and she has a slew of craft tables already, so that would really help with the garage sales and crafting I think :D

I like your ideas for events Salli- and for sure we need name tags next time!

I think rotating the party from place to place sounds like a great idea. :)

Salli - I LOVE the idea of having a pony mascot!  I really like how the Maryland pony meet has a different generation represent the mascot's theme each year.  Should we have a design contest or something?  Could be fun!

(oooo - and along those lines - maybe if we decide on a mascot, we could work on customs of her and either have her as a prize at the party or raffle her on the Arena for money to go towards the party?)

I third the design contest (designing right now on General Zoi's   :haha:)

Once we get a pony mascot picked I can design something. What kind of name tags? Write-on buttons? tags on a lanyard like at conventions?

Serafina, I LOVE the rotating gen idea. Which one would we do first? Gen 4 or Gen 1?

 :iconclap: Haha I love it!!

Salli - I'm not sure...maybe we could vote on the gen?  Or just start with G1 to make it easy? :)  I'm thinking that we could have a design contest to pick a color scheme and symbol for the pony and then apply it to a different generation each year and do customs of her each year as well. :)

I think it's a great idea to have a custom pony raffled off in the arena as a fundraiser!

He was gross! I washed him before even opening him up and he was still gross on the outside and the inside.

I now have to order monofiber hair after hannaliten passed some of it around to feel.

and mabey some of us customizers could do a group custom pony and raffle it off for some funds.  we could each do a part of it?  dose that sound good?

Hey there, sorry I couldn't make the last one.  Money just didn't work out for me.  I just wanted to chuck in there, that July is also when the Pony Fair and San Diego comic con is, and if you're hoping for out of area people to come, it may be a bit much with those two big events on.
Title: Re: NW Pony Party - Summer 2013!
Post by: Galactica on November 08, 2012, 06:08:26 PM
SDCC doesn't actually conflict- as it is on the 18th-  and the MLP Fair hasn't actually announced a date yet.  However, given that we are literally on the complete opposite sides of the country- it would be a pretty significant and somewhat unusual event to have someone from the NW go to the MLP Fair, or to have someone from Florida visit us up in Seattle I think :D

Honestly I don't think we are expecting many (or any) outside of the NorthWest to attend- (although they would be more than welcome!)   Since July 6th seemed to work best for our group (we discussed at the last PP) - I think that is the date we will stick with unless it poses an actual conflict for a number of people who are actually PLANNING to attend the NW Pony Party-

Post by: xeevee on November 08, 2012, 06:12:51 PM
That's fine, and it was just something I thought you'd like pointed out.  Also, just so you know, the fair moves. It could even be IN Seattle next year as far as anyone knows.  It was just in Florida this year, it never has been before it is very unlikely to be next year.  It could even be in Seattle ON the 6th of July as it would be around when it would be (it usually falls about a week or two before comic con - comic con is on the 18th).

Like I said, it's your meet, and you can do it when you like, I just thought in case you hadn't realised I'd let you know.

Cool- we appreciate the info!  The function of this thread is definitely to discuss the details of next year's party- so it is good to consider everything!

I didn't realize the PonyFair moved around, that is interesting!  If they announce it will be in Seattle on the same weekend as the NWPP- we will definitely need to discuss a date change!  Otherwise lets keep an eye out- and if it presents a conflict for anyone who wants to attend NWPP- we can weigh our options at that time :D

Hmmmm, I could perhaps add to your raffle :)

That would be awesome!  We are all definitely fans- after Karin showed off her Monofiber- I had to run and buy a bunch for myself! (along with a re-hairing tool)

Post by: Katgyrl on November 08, 2012, 10:25:06 PM
Thanks for the info xeevee! That would be so awesome if the MLP fair was in Seattle! For the few years that I've been in the collecting community it never has been anywhere remotely close, so that would be so cool. We'll see I guess!

I think I'm going to have to try the monofiber too! Maybe I'll do that for my strawberry custom. :D There are some really pretty monofiber colors on Retrodoll!

P.S. I've been eyeing Stella Bella and thinking she would look great with some yellow hair. Is anyone going to be horrified if I rehair her?

It probably won't be that hot in early July here! We feel lucky if it's really warm at all! Though this past summer we had unusual warmness, but it was still more later July and August. Im sure if it's super hot we would want to do it somewhere indoors. :) (Congrats on the coming baby, NichiTsukinoko!)

Does Patti's yard have trees and such for shade, in case the weather's on the warm side? I may be able to get ahold of some canopy things to bring down, although I have serious doubts as to whether it will really be warm enough to need them.

Post by: Galactica on November 09, 2012, 03:51:19 PM
I don't know about trees- good question- I'll ask her :)

I certainly have no objection to your re-rooting Stella Bella- she would look cute with yellow hair :)
Title: Re: NW Pony Party - Summer 2013!
Post by: Salli on November 09, 2012, 04:08:15 PM
If the MLP fair is in Seattle (or Portland) I would DEFINITELY be there, but if not, I can't go and I can't go to ComicCon at all. Also, I think I had more fun at this party than I would at ComicCon standing in line, waiting for no pony.

I think Stella would look cute with Yellow Hair too. I am thinking of putting some sunglasses on mine XD

Patti's yard has trees, and she did have some canopies, but I know a bunch of them broke during that last big rainstorm.  I think the bigger problem is what to do if it rains!!! I don't think I'd want to be outside, even under canopies if it rains.

I love Pacific Sunset for the long flowy multicolor hair!!  LOL

As for Cascade Rainn, I don't know about having a gray pony, but I love the body design!!  Also, I'm wondering what she'd look like with bluish/rain colored hair (like Riptide's colors).

PS how do you use/find General Zoi's pony creator??

I wish I was blowing Hasbro away with my creativity XD

You can import cutie marks, but I really hate the lack of control about it. I just export the pony image and draw the cutie marks on them on my comp with my lame-o Microsoft Paint :D

Beware: The Pony Creator is ADDICTING. I stayed up until 1 am making Airbender characters one night XD I did make an alternate Cascade Rainn with blue hair, I will post her in a bit.

Katgyrl, What a cute idea, I'll pm you my address :)

I'm open to sending out cards too if anyone wants one from me :)  I don't have enough feedback for the card swap so I can't partake in that, but I love making cards :D  Also, let me know if you're opposed to the card being Christmas related! :D

I agree that the ponycreater is really addicting-  the seapony one is super cute too-

jk. Seriously though. I am having a rough mom day. So I could use some mindless pony creating. Here is the blue version of Cascade Rainn without her cutie mark. I think I like her better than the green hair.

oh beautiful!!!  I like the blue hair!!  And I like that it is long and flowy, like rain!  And I am super amazed that you draw cutie marks with MS Paint!

I'll have to play with the pony creator, but I'm not so good at coming up with "original" ideas.  But, I have Paint Shop Pro.  I got it a long time ago and it works well for my needs (much cheaper alternative to Photoshop)!  LOL  I think it would work for the cutie marks... just need to come up with a good idea!!  (My lamb sig blinkie was made using Paint Shop Pro.)

A great free version of a photoshop similar program is GIMP if anyone is looking to do that sort of stuff :)  I use it for my sketches when I'm giving customers a preview of their ponies.  It's great for adding cutie marks to ponies from the pony creator because it gives you the option of multiple layers and transparencies :)

If each of us sends out a PM to everyone else who wants to exchange cards (with our address in it of course), we would all have each other's addresses.

I would think that would be the simplest way to do it  :xmas:

I thought green haired cascade rainn was awesome, but I LOVE blue haired Cascade Rainn! It totally fits her mottled grey body! And I agree the flowing mane is perfect! Sorry about your rough mom day, Salli. I was having one of those yesterday. My almost four year old is in one of those testy stages. :drunk:

I'll have to find that GIMP program and try it out (my hubby probably knows where to find it). I made a cute little baby pony just for fun, but she needs a cutie mark (I'm not very good at thinking of original cutie marks).

I think we've just been PMing each other if you want to exchange addresses, though I wouldn't mind helping with the address distribution if we wanted to do it that way. I've gotten addresses from Salli, Galactica, and Painted Hooves. How about if you want to be in the loop, PM me with your address, and then I'll send out the list of addresses next week after thanksgiving to all those who PM'd me. Not an official card swap but maybe that would help with sharing our addresses and knowing who would like to participate in sending/receiving cards.
Does that sound okay, or should we just stick to individual PMs?

I liked her better with blue too. Even if she doesn't get voted in as our mascot, I will make her anyway. I LOVE dappled grey horses!

Katgyrl, feel free to pass my address along to anyone who wants to send cards and I'll send cards to anyone who lets me too XD Maybe I can make some cards with Christmas Cascade Rainn on it :D

A long time ago I used to know how to use fancy programs (now obsolete I'm sure) on my mom's Mac. I feel so behind, I need to take a course on it because I don't remember anything. I will look into it. Thanks for the tips on programs :)

I am soooo obsessed with the idea of my strawberry pony that I will be starting her soon. I just can't stand the wait!

Do any of you need the Funko :muffin: Pony? I just picked up 2 they had at my Hot topic and I'd be glad to pass one along at cost (14.50 ) plus shipping? I still can't believe they had them! I also saw a random Blossomforth at a temporary toy store at the mall, how weird is that? Especially since the one I ordered arrived in the mail yesterday  -_-

I'll eventually get around to giving her a better-made cutie mark.  I didn't have a whole lot of time, so I made it in Paint.  The next one will be made with GIMP and I'll include a bigger view of it as well :)  I still like Cascade Rainne though :)

Wow!!  All these creative ponies!!!  And I agree, I think we need a fleet of ponies!!  Maybe we can have more than one mascot for each year??  I don't like the thought that the ones that don't "win" the vote wouldn't be made into pony ever??
Title: Re: NW Pony Party - Summer 2013!
Post by: Salli on November 19, 2012, 04:52:45 PM
OMG!!!  :dropjaw: I third the 'fleet' idea. Maybe we could have a vote for who the mascot is for 2013, then whoever wins can't be it again, then the next year it goes to someone else?

OR we could have a 'cast' of ponies like the cast of FiM. What would be the pony-equivalent of our major cities here? Like:
Manhattan=Mane-hattan
Los Angeles=Los Pegasus
Philadelphia=Fillydelphia
Baltimore= Baltimare

Seattle=??? ( Seaddle? or something?)
Portland= ??? (ummm, not much is coming. Trotland? Pintoland?)

I love the idea of a fleet of ponies too!  Maybe we should try to make them all- we can bring them along to every Pony Party, and there will be more every year!  It will be awesome :D

I do like also the idea of Brian being made into a pony-  but Karin should probably pick which pony she wants to make if any- since sewing a pony is just a tad harder than creating one on ponymaker, hehe

So maybe the main mascot will be decided by Karin based on how well he or she transforms into a plushie  :D

Oh darn Salli- I sure wish you could make it- but it is true there is a large collection of ponypeople in Oregon- Amtrak frequently has travel specials for $16 from Seattle to Portland (and vice versa)- if you guys have a craft fair down there, I might be able to figure out how to get there :D

As for craft-day in Washington-  do you guys want to meet at my house?   Does a particular weekend work/not work for people?   I was thinking some time in January or February- I think most of my Saturdays are free for now ...

Will we be able to fit some tables in your living room to craft on, Galactica? I can bring two or three 6 foot fold-up talbes my mom has (I'll just have to bring my van this time). Pretty much any saturday would work for me too as far as I know.

Post by: Galactica on November 30, 2012, 11:29:42 AM
Hmmm- you know, I am not sure they would fit-  I wish I didn't have such a small house!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone else want to be the host for the craft party, and have room indoors to set up craft tables?

For non-pony related craft days I typically extend our kitchen table, then add a little craft table to the end- it is a little cramped - and I think only 6 would fit at the max- with a bit of crowding.   I guess that is not ideal.

Maybe I could clear the furniture out of the living room to fit a couple craft tables- (at least the chairs) - I don't think there is anywhere to cram the sofa, alas...

I do crafts on my coffee table!!  But, if it's going to be "messy," you might want to cover the sofa/coffee table.  And I think you could fit another table in the living room if you move the arm chairs against the wall...

Yes, that would definitely conflict, are the Fair people mad about them conflicting with their date too? I wanted to go last year but I am worried about going after all of the horror stories. Do they have autographing sessions with the voice stars of FiM? I might go for that.

I found this! http://www.dailydot.com/society/everfree-northwest-harassment-tumblr-bronies/ (http://www.dailydot.com/society/everfree-northwest-harassment-tumblr-bronies/)

Sounds like there were a few nasty bronies that ruined some people's day- but hopefully the con will have stopped the problems reported-

Maybe because I look like their mom, I don't have too many problems with the 16 year old brony crowd...

I'm pretty sure you get a paypal confirmation first and then later it's just confirmation on Everfree when you log in.  As soon as I get my check on Friday I'll get my pass.  I'm debating on getting my own table too though... It's only $30 more and that way we won't be too crowded... Hmmm... decisions...  I'll make sure I get back to you by the time I get my check though.  If anyone else wants to get in on the helper option, please feel free to step in :)

The dealer hall is generally a pretty decent atmosphere.  There were very few people who were totally over the top and I didn't see anyone being hostile, so I'd say it's a good place to be :P

Rest is for the weak! Haha,

Well honestly I am flexible so if someone has an opinion about when to have the next meet- they should mention- I think someone had an issue with August- but I forget who that was...

Oh, Everfree! Are they selling tickets for that already? I want to go this year!!

I think I'm pretty open for weekends this summer. As long as it's not on Sunday I can come! I am planning on going to our church's girls' camp as a leader this year so I guess not that saturday, I think it's usually the last week of June, I'd have to check. Eep, is that Everfree week?

Yup, Everfee tix are on sale, it's July 5-7th.

Btw, I'm not good at legal stuff. Will it be ok to sell pony stuff there? I'm planning customs (of course) and some other handmade pony merch. Will that be ok?

Oh good, I think that's after the camp! I would have been totally wiped out (and dirty XD ) if it was the saturday right after. *phew*

And I almost forgot about the craft day! Does anyone still want to come here to do that? What days work for everyone, now that it's already January! So far I'm open on all Saturdays up until the second to last weekend in March. I'm assuming we want to do it pretty soon here.

And as far as an agenda, I'm just thinking we all bring stuff to work on or to share and have some food and visit while we work! I can have quite a few tables set up in my living/dining room (which are one big room- the only big room in my tiny house! ) so we should have plenty of room! Very casual, get together and have some dedicated time to work on projects and inspire each other at the same time! ;) And I'd definitely say non-pony crafts are welcome! Bring whatever you want to work on, or just come and hang out!

Yay- lets all go to Everfree together!

As for craft fair- I am good with any weekends except this one and Feb 22nd-  I agree bringing crafts of choice sounds good- and maybe everyone can bring a snack to share :D

Without getting into a long-winded debate-  hand-made pony stuff is probably derivative/infringing- BUT Hasbro does not usually take issue with fan-made stuff, unless it starts looking like you are starting to rake in some serious cash for it-  and even then, the worst they will do is ask you to stop (and even then, it is really really rare unless it appears you have a regular business, or are regularly out in the public making/selling these things.  The one thing I would advise against is to not put "My Little Pony" on anything or use any of their logos etc-  they have more of an interest in stopping that sort of thing (has to do with protecting the brand image more than anything else)

Ok, so as long as it's "pony-inspired" I should be ok? I mean, people sold customs/plushies/hats/whatever even at the big MLP fair on Hasbro property!

Pony inspired should be absolutely A-OK!  Seriously- Hasbro is really supportive of the fan-made stuff...

Last year every thing that was in the dealer hall was MLP stuff.  Some people even brought boxes of blind bags and MIB sets to sell above retail.  I'm sure everything you're going to do will be ok unless you claim that hasbro made something you actually did.

How does February sound for our craft day? How about February 9th? Does anyone have conflicts with that date? That gives us a month to plan. Shall we do it around brunch time like our pony party? Say 10:30am? Any input on either of those specifics?

I think bringing snacks to share would be awesome - it turned out so well for the party! Does anyone have something specific they want to bring?

I won't be able to make it on the 9th.  The hubby and I will be in the process of moving into our new house right around then, so we'll be super busy.  I hope you guys have fun though!

I'm hoping to make it on the 9th, though I'm not sure I'll be available that day...sounds like so much fun, though!!

By the way, sorry I've been so out-of-touch - we traveled a lot over the holidays and then came down with the flu when we got back. :(  When we arrived home, I was excited to see all of the sweet Christmas cards I got in the mail from you ladies - and then I realized that I completely forgot to send mine before we left!!  I finally got a chance to finish my cards last night and will be sending out my embarrassingly-late cards today...I'm so, so sorry about that!

Well if Painted Hooves and Sarafina both can't come the 9th, maybe we can try the weekend after? That would be the 16th. Would we all still be able to come then or would that date cause more problems than the 9th?

Let's plan on the 16th then, at 10:30am (for however long we feel like being here ;) )! PM me if you are planning on coming and I can PM you my address! (Galactica, can we put the craft date in the main post on the first page?)

I'll provide tables to work on and drinks. If you can bring a snack to share that would be great! Bring whatever crafts, pony-related or not, to work on. Should we bring craft supplies or ponies to trade & sell?

I have a hot glue gun, both a small and a large, that people are welcome to use, though I'm not sure how many glue sticks I have. I have some various other craft supplies I'll probably pull out to share.

Great!  I'll be there!  I'll bring some paint, etc., and I can bring my bin of sale/trades in case anyone wants to look through it.

Is anyone bringing an airbrush?  I'm tempted to buy one but would love to try one out first:)

I'll be there too. I will not be bringing my airbrush though. I'll be bringing some paints and rehair stuff I think, depending on where in the process I'm at with my current WIPs.

16th works-  I will bring my airbrush (so I can get some tips and tricks from you more experienced brushers) and various craft supplies- and of course grilled cheese.

Karin- can you bring some G1 baits to sell?  I am running way low and it sounds like you might have a few.. hehe

No worries for those of you who will miss this craft day, we will definitely have MANY MORE!

We also still need to pick a new date for the PONY PARTY-   Suggestions-  July 27th, Aug 10th, Aug 24th?

I will put up a poll...
Title: Re: NW Pony Party - Summer 2013!
Post by: Katgyrl on January 16, 2013, 11:17:43 AM
I put August 10th. I just found out the girl's camp I want to go to is the week after Everfree (instead of the end of June like it used to be) and since I am trying to go to both Everfree and girl's camp, that's a lot of time for my hubby to have the kid and he will probably need a break before I do another day out. :) August 27th may work too, though I may have pre-school stuff going on for my son then since the school year will be starting soon after that.

Karin - I would love to see your baits too! Especially if you have baby or G1 baits you are selling.

Looks like August 10th it is for the Pony Party-  I'll check with Patti, otherwise we can have it somewhere else.  Since it is August, I'd be happy to host again at my house since we can be outside and set up tables-  also willing to travel anywhere else :D

Hey, just wanted to send out a reminder for the craft day coming up! I've only had one person PM me for my address so far.

It's February 16th, starting at 10:30am at my house in Carnation. PM me if you want to come and I'll send you my address! Bring any crafts, pony-related or non, to work on and a snack to share

(I just threw up another thread up just for the craft day, so maybe we can catch more people to come!)
http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,321328.new.html#new

On a not-so-fun note, my hubby and I just went over our budget last night, and I realized we won't have money for me to do anything fun. So now I'm racking my brain for a way to earn some money so I can go to Everfree! They haven't sold out of tickets yet, have they?!

Everfree tickets are still available!   I am going to buy my ticket soon, I doubt they will sell out super fast, but those who are going should definitely get them before June 15th (to get the pre-registration price of $50) http://everfreenw.com/regsys/registration.php

Thanks for the reminder about your address Katgyrl- I totally forgot to PM you -  just sent a PM through as I will definitely be there!

Lala's creeped me out a bit because they reminded me of the Beldam on Coraline! But my bestie loves them so I have been drawing some for her and they are growing on me. I do like that they kind of promote sewing to little girls :)

I may have to stalk some TRU's up there when I visit  :lookround:. You guys get so much cool stuff. At least the August release date will allow me to save up a ton. August. It's the new December.

Also, I will have time to catch up on my blind bags. I've been pretty lucky to snag most of waves 5, 6 & 7 but I only saw them like once and then they disappear....

Bump for our NW meet. Anyone know of a location available that's public and preferably free? I suppose since we're doing it in August there's a good chance the weather will be nice and we could have it at a park, but it may be nice to have an indoor location just in case it's rainy (you never know up here *sigh*)

Maybe we could have it at TRU! They probably charge astronomically if they do have a party room. :P

Suggestions, anyone?

Same ol' same ol' :) I did finish hairing my strawberry-themed custom pony  :shifty: I think I know what I want to do for my donated auction pony for the grab-bag cause :D

I meant what's up with the non-location? Are we moving it back to Galactica's house in Seattle?

I don't know of any free indoor meeting places, but maybe we could use a meeting room in a neighborhood community center?  One of the smaller rooms can't be too expensive.  Being near a park would be nice since the weather should be good.

Oh, I just looked into the price of meeting rooms, and since we would need it on the weekend, the price is not that cheap... it is $35/hr for a small room, and it looks like you'd also have to pay a $25/hr staff fee.

Evenues.com shows some places with a daily rate of as low as $150-225... or $25/hr.  I don't know if there are any extra fees for those places.

I can ask my apartment manager how much it would be to rent the party room we have, it's gonna have to wait until Monday for me to ask though.

Maybe we can see if we can reserve a party room at a restaurant? Or even a comic book store or something? Surely someplace out there would be willing to have a small group of pony enthusiasts. I'll look into areas around here too. Ooh, what about a library! We probably couldn't do crafts there so much but we could still buy/trade/mingle, which is pretty much all we did at our first one anyway.

We could do it at my place if no one objects :)  We just moved into a new house, but there's plenty of room and (as my husband likes to demonstrate) it's pretty darn good for entertaining!  I'll be pretty pregnant at that point too so moving lots of pony stuff probably isn't a good idea for me :P  I live in Spanaway (the nice part) and I know most of you are up near Seattle, but this could encourage more OR people to come since it's a little closer :) I also have a good size backyard so being outside isn't out of the question if the weather cooperates :)

Good news! I called my library and we can use the meeting room for free! I think this may be true of almost any public library, but I know for sure my library here in Carnation is open to our kind of get together. (I told her it was a "club" since I figured that was the closest type of group to what we are :P ). They don't reserve rooms until two months out is the only downside, but there are lots of libraries I'm sure we'd be able to find one that was available (and really, my tiny town hardly had anything going on I'm sure ours would be free). We can even have food there, and I think we could do some kinds of crafty customizing stuffs (probably not airbrushing), I forgot to ask about that I can ask that specific question next time I'm there.

What do you all think? We can't get loud and crazy in a library, but I think it sounds like a good option (especially for free!). Anyone want to look into their own local library to see how many options there are?

Post Merge: April 13, 2013, 11:39:14 AM

Here's all the libraries in King County that say they have meeting rooms. You have to look at each one individually to see their available dates, but with that many options I'm sure we'd be able to find one.

I know my local library here in Carnation has one nice big meeting room that would work great, right on the main road, easy to see when you walk in our (tiny) library, and almost always available.

Meeting at a library is a great idea, katgyrl!  I think it would be great to try to have the meet outdoors, if possible, though an indoor back-up is a 'must' for sure.  I'm wondering if a library would mind if we cancel last-minute to be outside?

Having the party in a Seattle park might work - most of the parks have shelters with seating and tables, and the prices for the shelters range from $90 to about $260 for the entire day.  Here's more info:

http://www.seattle.gov/parks/picnic_sites.asp

Since we've been in Carnation for our most recent get-togethers, I imagine that it might be helpful to have the party in a different location in order to balance out the driving a bit.

The website said you are supposed to give 24hours notice of cancellation, but depending on how in demand the library meeting rooms are, if it's one that is not high in demand they would probably be okay if we cancel last minute.

It would be fun to be able to do it outside if it's nice!

Library is a fantastic idea. I like outside if it's not too ridiculously hot though :D Outside would be fun because we could be as loud as we wanted ;) Do you guys know of a nice, shady park that isn't overrun by mosquitoes in mid-August?

I have my bait stripped for my raffle pony :D Just have to finish this swap replacement pony and I can work on him :D

I like the idea of a park- most of the parks in Seattle that have an indoor facility are booked solid through the summer- but we could always meet somewhere that is first come first serve that has some tables and an overhang (I personally love Seward park for such things).  The library is a good back up plan if it is wicked hot or raining

I would love to do it in a park in Seattle! I'm personally totally fine with finding some shady tables in a park to have our get together at. Galactica, is there a library nearby we can reserve as a backup?
Title: Re: NW Pony Party - August 10th

Meeting rooms at the branch libraries are free, but I don't know how big they are, and I guess we could only be there during library hours.  Also, it would need to be open to the general public (which is fine, just that if we did goody bags, we might want to restrict who gets one--like rsvp guests only? And then hand out extras after?)  And I don't think we are allowed to sell stuff.

The only park I can think of is Greenlake... I don't know if the greenlake library has a suitable meeting room.  Also, it might be hard to find parking...
Nevermind about the greenlake library... it doesn't have a/c!!  Also, it sounds very small.  But greenlake itself is really nice.
Title: Re: NW Pony Party - August 10th
Post by: Katgyrl on April 16, 2013, 10:05:42 AM
I know it says in the rules for library meeting room use you're not allowed to sell stuff, but it does say you can request money to pay for "supplies" as long as buying "supplies" is not required to attend. I think we could get away with pony sales and trades under that clause, it's not like we're selling things to make a profit or as a business or something which is what I think they are trying to avoid.

Maybe if having enough grab bags is an issue, we can make them be doorprizes instead. So everybody who comes gets their name in a bowl and if we end up with more people than grab bags we draw names? Or we can make that a raffle thing too? Or maybe we can come up with something cheap enough that we can make plenty for everyone, even if it's something small, like a button or something.

I know it's a bit further north, but the Bothell Library is nice, has A/C and has a small park directly across the street.  Also within easy walking distance is a big park, a Starbucks and it's directly on the 522 bus line.  There is plentiful parking as well.  Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Do you know if either of the parks have tables and some kind of covering? And if we'd have to reserve them or if we could take them on a first come first serve basis? That would be nice to have library and parks close together so we could use both options!

Edit: I just checked the bothel library availability and they are booked solid through June with an ESL program and other goings ons, so I have a feeling they may not be available in August if that's their usual activity.

You can only reserve three months out, so I think we'd have to wait until beginning of June to see who's available to reserve. Maybe we'll have to wait until then and we can have a better idea of what our choices are? Unless we find somewhere better before, but it's hard to beat free! Maybe if everyone can check out their local libraries and know if they have good sized meeting rooms we can know which ones we might want to snatch up in June?
Title: Re: NW Pony Party - August 10th

The two close parks do not have covered areas for the picnic tables.  I don't know how long the ESL program is going on.  It's a shame that they only reserve a few months in advance.

There is a park on the other side of the river, about a mile, that will allow you to reserve a large gazebo with picnic tables.  Blythe Park has plenty of parking, though.

I think we need to do some location scouting!  With mapquest, you can overlay parks & libraries onto the map, and I was using that to see if I could find a good location.  However, I think we'd still need to visit the desired park & library to see if it's suitable.  I think only the bigger parks would have shelters, and if you do reserve a shelter, then I think that does cost money.  But, a regular picnic table would be first come, first serve (I think).

So, I think we should just get a meeting room.  I think we don't need to be "quiet" as in talking only in whispers, but obviously, not too rowdy.  Does anyone know how to look-up the size of the meeting rooms at the libraries without having to call each one?  I think we'd need one for like 30 people?  Oh, and I think we'd have the best luck with a library that has multiple meeting rooms available.  Then, if the library is using one room for their own thing, there'd still be another one free.

I think there is a "search available" feature that you can put in how many people, but again, it's only out until June right now. We can probly still use that to find which libraries have good size meeting rooms.

It would be lovely to have our meet outside but I agree we should tale advantage of a free resource.

Thanks for the suggestion Katgyrl. Turns out Salli is going up with her family and can't carpool from OR.

If there is ANYONE at all coming from the general Portland area (or passing through here) who wants to carpool PLEASE get in touch with me! I have my own car and I can drive if you chip in for gas, or if someone else wants to drive (preferred) I can chip in for gas! Honestly I want to go but I probably won't unless I can find someone to go with because 6+ hours in the car all by myself isn't something I want to do :/

So now that it's June we can reserve a library for our day! I searched for who is available right now and this is the list I got:

Meeting Room - Black Diamond Library
  Meeting Room - Covington Library
Meeting Room 1 - Enumclaw Library
Meeting Room 2 - Enumclaw Library
  Combined Meeting Rooms 1 & 2 - Enumclaw Library
Fall City Meeting Room - Fall City Library
Meeting Room 2 - Federal Way Library
  Room 1 - Foster Library
Small Meeting Room - Kent Library
  Meeting Room - Kirkland Library
Meeting Room - Lake Forest Park Library
Meeting Room - Maple Valley Library
  Meeting Room - Muckleshoot Library
North Bend Meeting Room - North Bend Library
Meeting Room 1 - Redmond Library
Meeting Room 2 - Redmond Library
  Meeting Room 1 & 2 - Redmond Library
Meeting Room - Richmond Beach Library
  Room 1 - Skyway Library
Meeting Room - Valley View Library
Meeting Room - White Center Library

Does anyone personally been to any of these libraries? I've been to the Redmond one, it's a pretty big library so I'm assuming the meeting rooms are good, but it's been a while and I wasn't paying attention particularly to the meeting rooms when I was there before. Anyone know if the Maple Valley library would be a good one to use? I'm thinking that's kind of a central location. Or perhaps Kent?

Thoughts anyone? We should reserve a library soon, I bet they get snapped up fast!

Thanks hannaliten!

I can go take a peek at the Redmond library's meeting rooms. when I go to home depot in the next couple of days (trying to build a chicken coop! :D )

Checking out some locations online.
The Covington Library is right off highway 18, looks easy to get to.
Maple Valley is pretty close to Highway 18 and looks like it was recently renovated.
The Kent library is right off the 167 and looks huge, so it probably has nice meeting rooms.
Redmond library's pretty easy to get to from the 520.

Do we want to grab one of these more southern options to make it easier for our lovely Oregon peeps? Or does another half an hour north not make that much a difference?

Here's a pic of all the locations in King County (not just the available ones), yellow dots are the large size libraries, blue dots are the medium libraries, and purple libraries are small

So I went ahead and booked the Maple Valley library so we can make sure we get one, but that can always be cancelled if there's a different one we'd like to use. The Covington library is no longer available and the Kent library only has a small meeting room available.

Did anyone check out their local library and has some input?

So far we've got August 10th at the Maple Valley Library. The last one we started at 10:30 and that seemed to work well. What do you all think? The library is reserved from 10am to 4pm, and that includes set up and take down time.

I think we should do a potluck again this year, that worked out well last year. So bring a treat/dish to share.

I was thinking last night about the party and what else we can do for it.

Should we have some games or contests? Last year we talked about doing some custom contests, "Under the Sea" and "Strawberries" are the two categories I remember. I don't know about you guys, but I have not had time to make any customs! Do we still want to do custom contests?

I can bring coloring pages to do a coloring contest. I thought it would be fun to do a "alternate color" contest where you color the pony the colors of a different pony, different gen or the same.

Any other ideas for games or activities we could do?

Anyone willing to donate a prize for one of the contests or a goodie for goodie bags? I think I could make some pony tutus to contribute to the goodie bag.

And who would be willing to come early to help set up?

Any other ideas for the party?

I loved the idea of a custom contest, but haven't exactly made anything having to do with either strawberries or under the sea-  I do love custom contests though-  maybe something more vague?  I'm trying to finish a re-sculpt - so much harder than I thought!

I am almost done with my strawberry themed pony, but I didn't get very far on my Under the Sea or Fashion Style-sized custom ;)

I was planning on providing a prize for the best newbie custom. A goodie bag of customizing stuff: hair, dullcoat, rehairing needles, etc...

Was I going to bring something else? Like prize-wise? I CANNOT believe it's in less than a month. O.o I will make buttons for this and last year. I can come help set up. I can't wait to see everyone!! I won't be nervous this time. :D

Question: how would y'all feel about doing a winter meet instead of a summer meet? I am toying with the idea of going to the MLP Fair next year and I feel like I can't focus on making the NW Meet as awesome as I'd like to with it so close together. I'm thinking January or Februaryish?? What do you guys think? Yea or neigh? ;)

Also, I will make us a banner...

I think a winter meet would be fantastic...summertime tends to be so busy for everyone, so it might work better for some folks' schedules.  Just my two cents, though. ;)

I'm *hoping* I'll be able to make it to the meet - it turns out that my family is going to be visiting from out of town, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to come or not.  This summer is going by in a flash!

Salli, you're a rockstar! Thanks for being willing to do so much for our meet!

I wouldn't mind a winter meet, it would probably be the same availability-wise for me either summer or winter, cuz we don't have money to go anywhere.  I think last year we decided to do it in the summer so we could have it outside, but then it ended up working out that we are having it at an indoor location anyway.

I totally had a fabulous idea for a strawberry custom, and was super excited to do my first mermaid custom, but now my summer has flown by and there is no way I am getting any customs done for the meet. Oh well, life happens sometimes... I can't wait to see other people's customs who bring them!

Are people bringing sales and trades again this year? That was pretty fun last year!

 I find that the summer craziness we experience is mostly because so many other events happen in the summer, and we usually have lots of friends/family visit around this time, so the weeks just slip by...I think that might be a common thing for some other folks (and the farm gets awfully busy this time of year, but that's just our own personal situation)...we definitely don't do much traveling, either.  I originally thought that a summer meet might make it easier for other folks to come, but I'm wondering if the busy-ness of the summer for most people might make it so that's not the case?  I also thought that a summer meet would be great for an outdoor party, but if we're planning to do most of our meets indoors, I guess it doesn't make a difference.  At any rate, just in case I can't make it to the August meet, my vote is for an off-season party...but that's just based on my personal situation, and I ultimately think that the group should do what works best for the majority, of course! :)

So I totally missed this thread before! Is it too late for me to say I would love to come? I don't think I have anything going on that weekend. Little bit of a drive, but I'll make it for ponies. ;)

I have TONS of stuff to trade/sell too. (Probably at least 50+ G1s, tons of ponywear/accessories, etc.) It would save me the time of photographing and listing it all. :D

MOMO!! YOu should come!!! All pony peeps are welcome!!

So wish I could come....  :cloud: Next time,  make it in Nevada or Cali..

Sorry you can't make it, but having it in Nevada or Cali would make it not a Northwest Pony Meet ;). There are lots of Cali Arena members, you all should get together for a Cali meet!

I am super excited to get together next month! Maybe after the meet I will start the ball rolling on a winter meet or something. Summer + kids = CRAZY!! I always forget just how crazy. And the older they get, the crazier our schedules are. You know what would be fun some year? Having a NW Pony Meet in B.C.! That would rock. We could meet some Canadian peeps.

Okay, so here's the banner. Not in love with it, but it will work. Someone requested a g1 on the banner this year so I did Cascade Rainn in g1 form.
http://i.imgur.com/T17CLGL.jpg

I will be bringing my moolah. Yay shopping!! Did you guys want any demos? I would love a demo on that awesome yarn hair they are doing these days... I just can't get the knack of separating it. I am bringing a peacock pony for show and tell if anyone wants a sculpted peacock feather demo. (I was thinking it would be fun some year to have a 'customizing relay race' just for fun and silliness and split into 2 random teams and have each person take turns doing something like removing a head, rehairing a tail, painting an eye on, glittering a symbol, fast stuff just for fun.)

HoneyBuzz: we should get together soon but I probably can't until School starts at least :)

EDIT: Just thought of something, you know what would be fun? A pony White Elephant exchange! A real white elephant where you give away a bait you don't care for so much. XD

Salli! Great job on the banner!  I'll add it right away!
And a white elephant is a great idea-  I've got lots of candidates :D

Love the banner! As soon as I get home I am putting that up! I am totally in love with the custom relay race thing. That sounds like so much fun! I would definitely do that! I think the white elephant thing would be fun too. Next year we should have a contest for customs made out of those white elephant baits.

Oops! I missed the part about the relay race! That does sound fun- although I am such a slow re-rooter... maybe it would have to be without rooting?  I'll add it to the potential activities - we can figure it out!
Title: Re: NW Pony Party - August 10th
Post by: Salli on July 17, 2013, 10:04:11 AM
I just thought of rerooting the tail, I'm fairly fast at that. Or we could have someone reroot like 4 plugs or something. Also, each team would pick who they wanted to do which event. :)

I think the white elephant thing would be fun too. Next year we should have a contest for customs made out of those white elephant baits.

That would be awesome! We do that at my sister's annual Ugly Christmas Sweater party, but not with ponies. I got a nearly-used-up bottle of chapstick one year and turned it into a mini emergency sewing kit. That kit saved me several times!

Serafina, I will be seriously bummed if you can't come :( Can you get away for a couple of hours? :)

Galactica, you are awesome, I logged in here to see the main page all updated and I am so excited!

So, everyone bring a wrapped bait pony you don't love (should we keep it Hasbro ponies only?).. We need to decide how many stations we'll need for our relay. 4? 5?

I am also thinking that 4pm is too early for the fun to end XD anyone want to go out to eat afterwards or something? Where is a good place to eat in Maple Valley?

I'm hoping I'll be able to come this year :(  This pregnancy is whooping my butt so we'll see.  I might come but not be able to bring quite as much pony stuff as I would like.  I'll have to see if I can get at least a custom done for the party though :)

I also like the idea of a winter meet, but again I don't know if I'd be able to come with a brand new baby in the house this year.  Maybe though, because I'll imagine I'll need a day for myself by then!

I don't know about that individual Hop Jacks, but I've eaten at one before and its fantastic.  The onion rings are some of the best I've had and their lemon drop is to die for.  It can be a little pricey though.

Sorry your pregnancy is kicking your butt :( Yes, even if you just come for a couple of hours we'd love to see you! I was just wondering yesterday if you'd be there :) And yes, you will need a break ;) My baby sister (she's 24, not really a baby ;) ) just had her first and she is having major problems with wanting to get out of the house. Luckily she lives not too far from me :) When are you due? Do you know if you are expecting a boy or girl?

Do you guys even have like a Shari's or something chain-ish? It doesn't have to be fancy, just somewhere to sit and eat and chat.

According to Bing maps there are several places to eat just a few minutes away from the library on Maple Valley Black Diamond road. Like Taco Bell and a pizzeria and a Mexican place and a teriyaki place and several others.

Here's a list of what I'm bringing to the meet!  I will be updating it as I dig up more ponies, lol

I possibly would be able to go down to Oregon for a meet. I'd have to make it a one-dayer since I have little ones and I'm trying not to give my hubby more reasons than necessary to be annoyed with my pony collecting. ;)

The bit about the husband: ain't that the truth! XD I told my husband that I was going to a pony-meetup (so yes, I'm definitely coming), and all he said was, "you're going to sell those extra ponies, right? And not buy anymore while you're there, right?" Suuuuure sweetie. ;)

Since I know we were talking about having a potluck lunch, I could donate some plastic utensils and paper plates/bowls! I have a bunch. And if I bring a bait and some hair, would someone want to teach me how to rehair?! :D

We should start an Unsupportive Husband support group. :P Seriously though, whenever he really starts to get on me about how dorky ponies are I like to point out his dorky interests like superhero comics and the HOURS he spent playing street fighter and final fantasy and that usually quiets him down for a bit.  ;)

Thanks Salli!  It's mostly my hips.  I have issues walking and driving (my car is a manual) so I'm pretty much stuck at home all the time.  I'm due on November 4th with a little boy, but he's growing a week ahead of schedule so we'll see when he decides to join us :)  If we do have a winter meet I'll just have to make sure to pump a bit so dad can feed him while I'm out :P

Sorry to hear your hips are hurting, painted hooves! My last pregnancy I was the same way, by the end I was in SO much pain I was relieved my baby came two weeks early! Have you tries massage therapy and physical therapy? Those both really help for me, and insurances usually cover a certain number of both, or at least physical therapy.

Do we want to bring our white elephant baits wrapped? I think I will bring a zuccini dish to the meet, my zuccinis and summer squashes are growing out my ears!

I think we should have them wrapped for sure :D That way you have no idea what you are getting ;)

Also, I think we should do the relay race next meet. We already have a coloring contest planned and the white elephant on top of wheeling and dealing and our custom contest. What do you guys think?

Also, I got a bit carried away with my customizing basket gift for newbies XD

I see my doctor on Wednesday so I'm going to talk to him about physical therapy for it, but I know my insurance (tricare) won't cover massage therapy.  I'm going to check into some prenatal yoga as well, I've heard it helps wonders.

On another note, the hubs and I are in a bit of a money bind right now (when it rains it pours around here huh?) and because I can't work I'm trying to figure out anything to do to relieve the strain.  I still have Frilly in all her giant stuffed glory looking just as pretty as last year's party.  Would anyone be interested in giving her a new home? As much as I love her, I need to worry about other things first.  I'm not looking to make any money on her, just looking to make back what I spent.  Thanks for the consideration ladies.

No worries, I was just curious :) I didn't have anything in mind in particular :)

I don't know how I skipped over the previous hubby comments. Mine is supportive because his hobbies are WAY more expensive and take up more room (collecting cars, guns, gi joe toys and some star wars). We're both nerdy :D. At first my pony customizing was 'the dumbest hobby ever' (he didn't say that to me until after he was converted ;) ) now he brags to his friends and bugs me about the pony I am making him. He also loves FiM and Pinkie Pie. Boys are so funny. Maybe we should have our husbands hang out with Katgyrl's sometime, Hanna ;)

Yes, let's! Mine is mostly supportive because he knows I sell 99% of the ponies I make and I don't collect, so there's really nothing to complain about. I just bought him a huge TV, bluray and home theater system with EFNW money, so now he's never bound to complain again :)

Does anyone have a spare rainbow g1 tail for a Windy I am restoring? My grandma snagged her for a buck and she's in great shape after a bath. She just has no tail. I can make a replacement, but I'd rather have an original :) I also have tailless Glory.

Hanna, I am bringing a strawberry-themed pony for the contest but I think it's just 'bring a pony for the contest' and not really leaning on the themes. I know Galactica is bringing something prize-wise and I think some others are? Maybe? I don't remember XD. I'm giving the basket to the newbie with the most votes.

Hmm, can I bring my merpony? I guess I can

Ooh, I third the request to see your merpony!

I think I can pick up some little bags and treats for goodie bags. Can anyone bring tablecloths from the dollar store or wherever?
Title: Re: NW Pony Party - August 10th
Post by: momo_no_hime on July 29, 2013, 09:29:49 AM
I can pick up tablecloths, but I might be running a teeny bit later than right at the start of the meet, factoring in traffic and trying to get enough sleep beforehand. (I have to work until midnight on Friday, and I'm hoping to leave my place no later than 8:30.) But I can try to make it there earlier than later. :D

Did we have a rough idea how many people are planning to show? Also, any special dietary considerations we should be aware of? I want to make some food that everybody is able to enjoy. :D

Also, I still haven't started cleaning the ponies that I'm bringing! There's just so many of them! XD

I love cleaning ponies so bring them even if you don't get to them :D I am looking for a bunch of g1s :)

I'm bringing some of my custom g4s to sell or trade if anyone is interested.

No dietary restrictions here except that I don't drink ;) What are people bringing? Is anyone bringing strawberry something? If not, I will :)

Several of us don't drink alcohol. I also am allergic to gluten (in wheat and barley) but I don't expect everyone to cater to me. :)

Here's who I have as coming:

Salli
Galactica
Hannaliten
Katgyrl (me)
Momo_no_hime
Aitsuki

and Honeybunches and Paintedhooves as maybes.

Does that sound right? Am I missing anyone?

Galactica, do you know if My little lambie is coming?

Is that AcademicSquirrel?

I will have nametag things that attach to our buttons. I also have a tablecloth if no one minds having a birthday-balloon table. Kind of Pinkie Pie style I guess ;) I may bring strawberry shortcake, unless someone else was bringing that.

Yes, it's AS, now known as Dakashy. Sara is not a pony-person, but I do believe she's bringing her dolls (Eryka and I will bring ours as well :D )

I will be bringing a Strawberry Rhubarb pie!  And also will try to figure out a crumble or alternative form for the gluten free folks :D

Oh and lambie will be coming if she doesn't have to babysit that day- sounds like it may be up in the air.

Would be neat to come since I am in Washington but its like a 2.5 hour drive from here and my husband needs the truck for work that day. Plus I'm coming to the airport just a few days later. Annnnd there would be 2 kids in tow.

Soo, I won't be coming but sounds fun!

I'm not 100% sure I can come.  I need to check my friend's work schedule.  She tried to get someone to take her shift, but it sounds like he might have backed out of it.  If she works, I need to babysit.

I don't think alcohol is allowed in the library anyway...

Oh Salli, that newbie prize is awesome... although my eyes went directly to the chocolate!  LOL

I still have my half-haired practice pony I started in May... I don't think I'll have a custom pony ready!

I'm coming!!  And I told Patti (not on the forum), and it sounds like she's coming too.

So, we should bring:
Potluck dish
Wrapped bait swap
Customs for contest
Show & tell
For sale items

Did I might miss anything?

Is it listed anywhere what people are bringing in terms of the potluck?

I'm getting really excited for this! Unfortunately I haven't had the time to clean the ponies, so hopefully you ladies like cleaning and restoring. ;D There are just way too many for me to get through.

I was probably going to bring a ramen noodle salad. And I'll still pick up utensils, plates, and bowls since I already have a lot of them. (And I need to go to the Dollar Tree anyway.)

Galactica- I would love to see the two SDCC ponies, even if I don't have moneys to buy them!

I'm super excited, I finished my custom this morning! I'm really happy with how she turned out and excited to show you guys on Saturday! I even painted the eyes for the first time! (I only had to start over on one of them :P )

I am looking for a brushable Pinkalestia/Celestia to bait. I am also looking for cheapish early g1s (Minty, Snuzzle, Blossom, Bluebell, Cotton Candy, Applejack, Bubbles, some rainbow, etc...) to clean up and restore :D I need most of them. I also want a g1 Seabreeze for some unknown reason. Always looking for Shining Armor baits but I won't expect any ;) And a g4 Scootaloo.

My son is having some medical problems and we had a visit to the doctor today and we have another appointment tomorrow evening, I will die if I don't get to go to the meet, but just putting it out there that there is a chance that I might not be able to come. I will let you know as soon as I know.  :cloud:

I'm looking for baity baby G1s, preferably pink and white, and teeny tinies too.

I will also buy non-bait baby G1s for my collection!!

Also, can anyone tell me if nail art brushes are OK quality? I need some super tiny paint brushes... even a 1 hair brush, and those nail art brushes are super cheap on amazon.

*Big plates
*Small plates
*Bowls
*Cups
*Utensils (Spoons, forks, and knives)
*Tablecloth (just in case we need an extra one)

Hopefully that should be enough! And I got them all in pink, naturally. ;D

And bring your spending money!! I'm bringing three totes of ponies and two large bags of accessories! (G1 and G3, but a big mix of stuff from those two gens.) I got cash so I can give out change, but if anybody has a smart phone and wants to pay me with Paypal, that could be arranged too. :)

sounds perfect momo! Can't wait to see all your stuff!

I don't think anyone is bringing drink yet, Hanna, so go for it!

On a bummer note, I went to get stuff for goodie bags and found nada. Soooo... those aren't going to happen. Sorry guys! Sounds like we will have lots of cool stuff there nonetheless! Next year we'll have to order stuff online ahead of time.

Can anyone who will be there near the beginning print a sign or two in case we can put them up in the library? Like a "NW Pony Party Here!" kind of sign (with our mascot pony would be awesome, but not required). I thought of that AFTER I went to the library to print all the coloring pages, of course, and I don't have a working printer at home. If no one can I may throw a sign together tonight and try to print it right when I get there tomorrow.

Well... I got back and the news is that I can't make it. They are taking my son of his medications due to an adverse reaction and I will be spending the day sulking about missing the meet and monitoring him.  I've been debating bringing them along just to pop in and I just can't do it. That would be a VERY long car ride for me and my boys. I can't even tell you how sorry I am that I have to miss it.

I will mail the newbie winner's basket to them and I'll make arrangements with Galactica and Katgyrl for things I owe you for trades. If anyone wants to swap their white elephant with me via post later they are welcome. I wish I could mail you the strawberry shortcake.

I can't even talk about it anymore tonight without having a melt-down, but I sincerely hope you all have a great time and please post pix of all the contest ponies! Maybe I'll start the ball rolling on a winter meet soon. Have fun!!

Awww... Salli!! I'm really sorry that you can't make it. I was really hoping that it would be good news.

I noticed that you were looking for Rainbow ponies, and I know that I have a Parasol and Skydancer, and I'm pretty sure that I have a Windy and Moonstone. (Can't remember if I had any of the CP ponies off the top of my head.) Did you want me to set those aside for you? :D I figure if you can't make it I still want you to be able to get some ponies!!

NOOOOOO! Salli, I'm so sorry! We will miss you so much! But children are more important than ponies of course. I hope everything works out for your son, it's no fun to be figuring out medicines. It's too bad you can't bring them, but I totally understand about the long car ride. I hope you at least get to do something fun for yourself tomorrow! We'll take lots of pics for you!

I think I was the only one who brought a custom for the contest.  ^.^ Galactica gave me a cool Shadowbolt Rainbow Dash as my prize. :D

I had a good time with everyone too! It was fun to meet some new people this year! Thanks to all those who came and brought food and ponies! A big thank you to Galactica for donating prizes!

I am curious to know what input everyone can give to make next year's meet even better! I was surprised that we ended a few hours earlier than last year. Perhaps we needed a few more activities to do? I also noticed all the food we brought this year was light appetizer type food, I wondered if people were ready to go because they were hungry. Or are there any other activities/games you would like to see happen next year?

Also, there was a Megan doll left in Momo's boxes of ponies. Does anyone want to claim her?

It was super fun!  The White Elephant was fun, and coloring contest was fun too- (great coloring pages btw!)  - It was really cool to meet so many new people!  I will admit my favorite part was just socializing and swapping ponies :D

I wish I had finished my customs for the party- next time I will get started much sooner... but Katygrl's was seriously AWESOME and she definitely deserved the prize - LOVE that sewn tail! You really need to post a bunch of pictures of her- so unique!

Megan dove out of my box into Momos.  I guess since she is already selling so many she figured she could catch a ride towards a new home rather than languish in a bait box :D   She has her original hairbow, dress, panites and shoes...

Hope you all had a blast!  Wish I could have joined you, but I had a final exam that same day.  It would have been a bit far for me too.  I'm going to try to get my house cleaned up, and I'd like to host a pony party here in Oregon.  You're all welcome to come if/when I get my act together!

I think the summer wasn't actually as a good time for a meet.  Summer is generally busy for me with other activities.  I actually had to work early on Sunday too.  I know we picked it because we were going to do it outdoors, but I think the location we had was nice!!

It was super fun though!!

Thanks for the input, Lambie. I agree with your thought, we did initially plan to have it outdoors but then discovered library meeting rooms are free! I feel like the room worked well, but what does everyone else think?

Also, those of you who took pictures, we'd love to see them! I think we can upload to our NW Pony Meet facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/303404706440267/), if that's easier than linking to the Arena

Thanks, MLLambie, but I was thinking of trading someone who also didn't get to go to this one but wanted to go to the next one.

I am so super sad that I couldn't go. We decided next year that DH will take the day off so if anything happens that a babysitter can't handle, he will be there.

I propose that we have a meet in January or February 2014. What do you think?

So, we need more food (of a non-dessert nature)?
A few more activities? (I could get the customizing relay together)
A couple more contests?

I had an idea for a challenge called 'The 12x12 Challenge'. Your challenge would be to create a display that would fit on no bigger than a 12x12 area of a table (BUT you can go higher, maybe a 4' max.)
It can be a single pony that is the prize of your collection, an army ponies, a scene of the apple family reunion or something presented by blind bags, a custom (or more) you made, a pony sticker collection, some factory flawed ponies, some ATCs or other art, art you drew as a child or art your kid drew, etc... No theme, just 12x12 and ponies and a 'G' rating ;) (Also, it needs to be stable, so it doesn't knock over anyone else's ponies). Anything you want. No customizing necessary, but you can if you want. I'd be willing to donate a prize :)

What do you think?

So we have the 'make-over your White Elephant' contest too. Any others?

I LOVE the 12 x 12 challenge idea! That gives members who are not wanting to customize still a chance to do something fun for a contest!

We had the coloring contest which I think people had fun with. Maybe next year we can have those who did not participate judge, and do it blindly? Or did everyone like having input with the voting method we did this year?

What if we did some kind of pony dress up relay? With the G1s and their ponywear, each person has to put on a piece of ponywear and we do a race. Maybe that's lame, though. I just bought a bunch of ponywear from Momo and was dressing up my ponies and thinking about how some of them are kind of tricky to get on! ;)

I think next year we need to have a few of us who plan on being more substantial dishes and then everyone else can bring whatever. I *almost* stopped and picked up a deli chicken on my way to the party, but I was worried I was late so I didn't. If our meet in in Jan or Feb I might still have a pumpkin hanging around and I can bring pumpkin soup again!

Oh man, the dress up relay sounds SOOOOO fun! What a great idea, Katgyrl!

I am already trying to think up a more substantial food. I do make some epic sour-cream chicken enchiladas. I think they may be gluten free too.

Do we want to have it in Maple Valley again?

So, maybe everyone who didn't get to go can swap white elephants?

I think photos of displays would be great?  I don't know how to make a 12x12 easily transportable display otherwise?

And maybe we can pick a "theme" (or 2) and do everything around that... photos, customs, etc?

I think I wasn't sure about being able to heat up foods or refrigerate stuff at the library.  It was nice that the meeting room had a sink, but I wasn't even expecting that.  We could bring a power strip and plug in crockpots though.
Title: Re: NW Pony Party - August 10th
Post by: Salli on August 14, 2013, 01:49:36 PM
Maybe Serafina or Painted Hooves would swap white elephants with me. :D

I don't think I explained the 12x12 Challenge well. You can just have a piece of scrapbook paper (12x12) with your favorite pony standing on it, or I know MLLambie collects babies, what about some babies lined up or a scene with baby ponies playing? The height restrictions are for certain people who like to go BIG  :lookround:. But big is not necessary and definitely not necessarily better either. It would be a great way to show off a nirvana pony or more than one :)

We could totally exchange white elephants Salli :)

Just out of curiosity, would it make it easier for the Oregonians if our winter meet was a little further South-Westerly than the Seattle area?  I know a majority of us live in the Seattle area, but I think it would be awesome to make things more accessible to people slightly out of the area so we can meet more pony people :)

Let's do it!
And anything more South would help especially for the other Oregonians as I think I am the farthest north. The problem is that most of us are either in Seattle area or Oregon. No one in between or even in Vancouver. I could probably find us a space here in Oregon City but I am worried that the Seattle people won't be able to make it, and I want to see you guys!

Also, how are you hanging in there, PaintedH? Hips any better?

I took 5 minutes and made 3 examples of simple 12x12 displays:

I'm willing to travel South for a pony meet- there was even talk of something in Oregon which I'd be willing to drive to- I love Portland and also have family in Astoria.

My house is pretty far south in Seattle- but not that far south, and a bit small (as we've discovered) for a winter meet.

Title: Re: NW Pony Party - August 10th

I think I'm the only person that's smack in between Portland and Seattle. XD My house is a wee bit small to host a meet though, unless we used the backyard. But I personally don't mind driving, as long as we're not talking like four hours or something.

I was a little ill-prepared for this meet, but I'm going to try and make some customs and what-not before the next meet. (Finances and time allowing, of course.)

Oh my goodness, some of those pieces I have to wonder how the heck they thought kids were supposed to get them on the ponies! I think that would be really fun though! And I love the 12x12 idea Salli! :D

Thanks for the 12x12 examples, Salli!  I was imagining more of a craft project involving ponies and things being glued down!

Maybe we can find a suitable library that's south of Seattle along I-5?

Salli- My hips are doing a lot better now that I've got a maternity support band made to lift some of the weight off my pelvis.  The only problem is the heat!  I really am feeling much better though :)

I'm actually right outside Tacoma, so not quite right in between Portland and Seattle, but I have friends in the Olympia area.  It's a little further from Portland than Seattle is, but I know it's a beautiful area.  :)

Salli- I'm doing much better now that I actually have my little man :)

Kaiden was born on November 2nd at 2:00AM via c-section after 26 hours of labor at a whopping 9 lbs even and 21.5" long.  My recovery was a little delayed due to a narcotics sensitivity that caused an ileus, but we're both doing well now that we're home :)

I think it's similar to Magic or Pokemon. You play the characters and stuff against eachother. I played the Lord of the Rings one many years ago and it's one of those 'looks harder than it actually is'. I wish they'd make a pony version of LIFE or Scene It.

I thought I saw some new pony valentines but they looked similar to the ones I had.

I'd also love that Monopoly game- although I'm waiting for it to go on sale...  Also- Monopoly tends to be a bit long, and I'm not sure how many players can be involved?  It might be fun to have a bunch of different games going at once? :D

If that's changed, I'm more than willing to host in my home to make it a little easier on our OR peeps :)  I might not be able to run things because of my baby, but I can open my home; provided no one is allergic to cats or dogs!

You're right Painted Hooves, we decided not to host in homes for safety reasons. When I hosted the craft day last we did it at my local Library, which has a great room for parties/gatherings, or we also did our general pony meet last time at the Maple Valley Library. Library meeting rooms are nice becuase they are free, someone just has to reserve it.

The Maple Valley Library is beautiful and the room was big!  I don't know of any Seattle-area library that would be suitable, but it would ne nice if the location was easily bus-able from downtown, so maybe the Bellevue library??  Or were we thinking of going to Oregon this time?

I wad just thinking of this meet a few minutes ago. Should we set a date and then a location based on who is coming?

My only request is that it not be on Sunday (which I guess it can't be anyway if we use a library).

It might be a good idea to check online which libraries have a room available, some of them book up really fast especially in the summer.

Also, I was looking up this thread so I could post that I am sending PaintedHooves her make-over white elephant pony :D

Oh, that's right! I almost forgot about the white elephant ponies! Too bad I hadn't done mine before baby comes. :P

Do we have a general timeline that people prefer? I am open to pretty much anytime May to mid August.

Katgyrl, when is your baby due again?

Thanks for changing the first thread, Galactica! (Can you change the thread title? It still says August 10th)

So, here's what I understand to be happening at this party:

Summertime? (Does a Saturday work best for everyone? There is June 7, 14, 21, 28; July 12, 19, 26; August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30)(I think we should work on nailing down a date, then work on reserving a place)

Possibly the library?

The White Elephant Make-over contest
The 12x12 display contest (I'll provide the prize)

Pot Luck

Garage Sale

White Elephant Pony?  I must have some serious mommy brain going on right now, because I don't remember anything about this!  Help?!

Really any time works for me.  My hubby is getting sent to Guam this summer for Army business so I'll be on my own with my little guy.

We just started the white elephant pony at our last meet. Bring a baity pony to trade (blindly) for another baity pony. Then we fix our baity ponies and bring them back next year to show off what we did to them. :)

I've got one of those make-your-own pony coloring tablets, I could make copies and bring the stencils for us to have as an activity. Maybe we could have a goofiest or most creative contest or something like that.

I don't remember if I answered about the dates, I'm available for any of them except the last two in August.

Thanks Katgyrl! I've been all but absent from the Arena for too long :(  Have you had your baby yet?

I just got her today Salli! I've never customized one before either so we'll see!!

Am I sending a baity pony back to Salli?  I'm sorry I'm such a nuisance   I wish I could have made it to the last meet, but things were just way too hectic :(

No worries, PaintedH. We had talked about swapping baits since neither of us made the meet last year. If you don't have one I can show you guys the baits I have and you all can pick one for me to do :) Don't worry :) Do we want to do August? When is Everfree? I won't be going to that but if you guys are going I don't want to conflict.

I can't believe my memory has gone down the drain that much... Yeesh!  I do have a bait I'll send you :)  I'll make sure I send it out within the next week when my hubby gets paid.  I need to do some serious thinking about what I'm going to do with the one you sent me!  :art:

I don't think I'll be going to Everfree this year either...  The bronies are just a bit too much for me!

Does July 19th or July 26 work for everyone who is interested ?  Should we pin down a date and go for it?  (The poll above is for last year- I couldn't take it out of the thread sorry)

I thought that the Library meet was really a great location last time, and it worked really well!
Title: Re: NW Pony Party planning thread

Either of those days work for me. I thought the Library worked well too! If I remember correctly they schedule those meeting rooms out three months in advance. So for a July date we would have to wait until May I think to schedule a meeting room. It seemed like the Maple Valley one was pretty open last year. The ones more in cities tend to get booked up quicker, but if we are on top of things we might be able to get one of those.

I'll find out from Katygrl about the library contact info (or even just the specific branch that it was)-  since I'm sure she's busy changing diapers right now :D  -  if we for sure want the library- I can book it- shall we say for July 26?

I also found out about this awesome community center on Mercer Island that my friend's craft-group has been using.  Is that a big pain for most people to get to ?  Would you guys rather have that Library we met at last time?

Okay-  apparently they have a class up until 1:30 on the 26th, and another class at an even more inconvenient time on the 19th-  so here is what I booked based on availability:

Date(s): Saturday, July 26, 2014
Time: 1:45 PM to 4:30 PM
Room: Meeting Room
Library: Maple Valley Library

(Approval for our event is pending)

Hopefully that isn't too late of a start time for people?  If it is than we will need to pick another day or location-  but I think it could work.

OH and by the way if anyone wants any of the FUNKO ponies- (including AJ or Big Macintosh) let me know and I'll bring them for you.  Happy to sell them for $10 each - WAY less than you can get them for in the store! I am so happy you like him! I am hoping to sell him soon, so I may not have him then :( Need to raise $$ ;) But I can bring Ace again. I also want to bring my Strawberry Peacock pony which I will seriously trade for anything. I wonder if Hannaliten would let me bring my HP swap pony. Possibly the best pony I've ever done. Would you snag a Big Mac for me, please? I hate going to the mall. So. Much.

Thank you so much, Galactica for arranging all of this!! I will make a banner pronto. AND I have a new printer this year and I can print out the buttons from all 3 years!

Anyone want to meet for lunch before the party at like noon?? Or is there a park really close to the library where we could picnic?

It looks like there is a park nearby, though I haven't been there. The mud bay I go to sometimes is over in the area, so there are also a couple restaurants.
I'm going to bring a cake! A pony cake! Maybe two!!
Picnic would be fun. I will be off that day, so just let me know where and I'll be there with ponies!

Will do! Probably right after the contest ends and I feel comfortable posting his show n tell pix :)

EDIT: Since the last 2 years we did a g4 pony and a g1 pony mascot, we are doing a g2 mascot this year. I am going to use PaintedHooves entry for a mascot and then so on until everyone gets their pony represented, cycling through the gens :) Hope that's okay.

Also, having scrolled through the old posts I was just thinking how awesome you all are and how lucky I am to live in the NW :) You all rock!

Seconded! I need to nail down all of what I am bringing. I know I am bringing a prize, something snacky, Galactica's pony, some show n' tell ponies, my peacock pony to trade for anything, some clay for demo-ing feathers AND...

my made-over white elephant I just got in the mail from PaintedHooves! I feel bad though because she's a really pretty pony even though she is a g3.5. Man, her hair is so thick and pretty!

I was going to give you a G3.5 that takes a wig, but then I pictured your poor hands after making all new plug holes and I decided against it :P  I loved her hair but I can't stand G3.5's, so I knew I'd never be able to make her into something pretty.  I can't wait to see the luscious mane you give her!  I love reroots so much more than Hasbro's hair jobs!

I have no idea what I'm bringing yet... The hubs and I are working on planning the construction of our new tiny house so everything is up in the air.  I know I need to severely downsize my collection before we can move into this tiny house (read 230 sq ft) so Frilly will be coming with and she'll need a new home if anyone is interested!

I'm actually not going to be rehairing her :shifty: The bait I gave you was the worst! I feel like you gave me a way better pony to work with XD I have never done a 3.5 so I am happy for the challenge :D

OK, so this is Seattle? I'm a Portland Pony and that's so far away (saying the girl who just did the Pony fair in Nashville) so two things:

1. Any Portland Ponies want to carpool to Seattle?
2. Any Portland Ponies want to figure out if there is anything happening in Portland/make it happen?

"I wish we could search the member list by city..." rosietrot wished aloud, hoping the mods would overhear...

Maple Valley is south of Seattle.

And I gather that there isn't much interest in lunch/picnic before the meet time?  I'm fine either way.

Since the meet is at the library, I think people could paypal, as long as they felt it was safe to use paypal via the library's computer (if like me, they didn't have a smart phone!)  Personally, I don't think I'd spend THAT much!

:hot: I don't love summer. Today was ridiculous.

I thought we were eating before the party. Who is in for eating before the party?
Do you want to meet for a picnic/at a restaurant?

For me it's yes and either is fine.

I used a shoddy bait - and the paint didn't stick to the pony.  So I need to remove it and re-spray.  Seriously a pain!
