I used to make porcelain dolls when I was younger but gave it up after the place I used closed down. After scrolling through is drool worthy thread has reignited my passion in dolls (esp. ones that aren't so breakable).
Anyone know if it's possible to buy kits/fully completed bjd anywhere in Tokyo? Even site to go look through to see if they have a physical shop in Tokyo.

I've ordered some custom resin eyes from a Polish Etsy seller before and the seller did a great job. If you want, I can take pictures of those eyes next week once I return home. :) They are... 12mm if I remember right, pale blue with little swarovski crystals, white pupils and some ingredient that makes them glow in the dark :lol:

Today I want to share my current project - Newt, a pukitaur with the Halloween Event plate (one modded). I'm working on his faceup myself which is exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time. He's also my first eye mod, so it's not perfect but I think it adds character ;)

I'm actually in the process of switching all of my current dolls (aside from the Realpukis..) to Makos! I absolutely LOVE them - especially the Iberis :heart:

They're going by the size of the wings versus how big the wings look on LTF and PKF compared to Realfee. I would say I kinda' agree, but what if they made a whole new mold for the wings? Unlikely, though. I'm holding out for pukifee size because 20 cm is kind of hard to dress ;n;

Ahh see, this is why I often do my own face-ups. The face-up can really make or break a doll and even if I dislike the company face-up I can make it my own.
I really like company faceups in general, I'm too impatient to wait for artist slots to open up and im not yet good enough to do the faceups myself >_< I like having the doll ready to go so to speak as soon as they arrive. I admit, she's probably the reason I wasn't overly into the RealFees after all :blush:
She is a LTF Flora with SOOM Ai hooves! I was lucky enough to purchase the hooves pre-modded for LTF which saved a lot of time.
I spent the morning bevelling the inside of her little butt so I could fit a magnet, so now she can also wear her tail (yet I forgot to photograph it lol).
I will be blushing her hooves and giving her a faceup eventually, but for now I'm happy just to have her all put together :biggrin:
I'm undecided about her wig, so for now she's just wearing one of my early wig making experiments XD

And this right here is why FL will never be able to compete with Soom or Luts.
Yeah, Soom and Luts have amazing fantasy parts, but for the most part, FL has better face sculpts on their smaller dolls. I love all three companies, but there's more diversity in LTF faces than there is in Soom littlegems or Honey Delfs. Although, this is just opinion.

I know it makes no since to me. I've put pictures of my girl up and they have been deleted. My post today was getting advice about how people fall back in love with there dolls.
I mean ever since my dad passed away I haven't even wanted to get my doll out of her box. I though the face book group would be the place to ask but I guess I was wrong. Oh well. I might leave that group. It has certain people that post a lot and I guess my post was in the way.

The girl is Dollzone Wendy--she was an event limited. But, you can find her on the secondhand market pretty easily. The little one is a Peakswoods Monthly Fairy Coco Rain. I order from them a lot and usually get an automated "Your order has been placed" kind of deal. So I would file a claim or call them up if you didn't get anything at all. It usually only takes them like 3-4 business days to ship out too.

I think that's what I am going for then. White mohair. But of the two other mohair wigs I've bought, I've only liked one (not counting two that I had specifically made for two of my dolls). That white and pink one that Nerine wears is absolutely exceptional and I'm not sure that I'll be able to find anything quite that glorious in a 5-6. But isn't she SO FREAKING CUTE?!
I need some name help though. She's obviously adorable, but she's also quite a stinker. But she's also sweet. I can't seem to find a name that gets the balance of sweet and spicy I'm looking for. The front runners are Bailey (because it's adorable, but is also the name of an alchohol that I like to put in my coffee on weekends, lol) and Kiki (just because). I've been jokingly calling her Twinkle Toes in the meantime because that's just sort of my default name for bunnies ever since I named a baby bunny that lived in my grandparents' yard one summer when I was a kid. But she actually needs a real name, even if I keep Twinkle Toes as a silly nickname.

Hey! So, I could not help but click through and look at your mini-story about making clothes for your doll. I grabbed my wife to check it out, because, frankly, you have the makings of one heck of a good children's book in the making...I am 100% serious! Have you ever considered doing this? The photos are outstanding, the visual storytelling is strong, and your narrative has a great reader connection. It is somewhat like a classic fairly tale book style of the later 60's and 70's by Tadasu Izawa (you can fine loads of images on Google, here's French site: http://www.lilouestudio.com/blog/2012/05/t-izawa-e-as-minhas-mais-doces-lembrancas/ ) ... the dolls, clothing, poses, etc., were quite expressive, and my wife still has her collection from childhood. If you have any inkling to do this, I think you have the talent, and I think you would do great! I just had to say something since it was so cool!!!

I've been ruined for posing other dolls since I got my TinyTaurs! I can't get them to balance on one hoof like M!ndy can, but they are lightyears more stable than the Dollzone and artist dolls I have.

Does anyone know where I can see the factory faceups on pukifee's. I'd really like to get an ideal what they look like.

Okay, so I just discovered the Big Dipper doll by dollzone... their website doesn't want to work for me so I'm not sure how to find out information about this doll? The Niagara BJD doll group got together and we had an excellent Halloween dollymeet! It was sososos fun! I got to meet a few new people and see lots of new as well as hang with all my friends! We Had some movies on in the background (Nightmare before Christmas, Dark Crystal, and Goosebumps tv show), we stuffed our faces with pizza, wings, halloween candy and baked goods, Mariko made an EXCELLENT punch and we played with dolll for like 8 hrs! Here's a few pics.!

There is a 2005 Juri Christmas Head in there, too. I never had the money to get her a body and I don't even remember where I bought her or who did the faceup...or even what the faceup looked like. I was reading this thread last night and it made me want to find these girls in storage and get them out. It's a toss up. Pay close to new prices and have no wait or pay new prices and have a wait. BJD tend to hold their value no matter what. Yes there's some over pricing but mostly the market has been lower than normal recently.
I have found the longer a wait for a company the higher the second hand prices.

I am stupidly proud of myself right now XD I just helped Hannah's kicky Pipos out by restringing him. It might not be perfect since his arm elastic was too small from the get-go but he seems to have improved in poseability a lot.
I was so worried I'd do something wrong but it all turned out alright for my first time restringing a doll. :D ((aside from a brief moment when I realized I'd put his hands/paws on the wrong arms))

I am stupidly proud of myself right now XD I just helped Hannah's kicky Pipos out by restringing him. It might not be perfect since his arm elastic was too small from the get-go but he seems to have improved in poseability a lot.
I was so worried I'd do something wrong but it all turned out alright for my first time restringing a doll. :D ((aside from a brief moment when I realized I'd put his hands/paws on the wrong arms))

Restringing isn't hard at all, actually. It looks scary (I was petrified the first time I had to do it), but it's actually quite easy. I looked up a tutorial online when I restrung Brooke for the first time and now I can do it on my own. But even after I restrung her, she was still hard to pose, so someone helped me suede her a bit. I need to finish with the other joints to finish her up though. That's way scarier than restringing, I think. lol

I've always thought DZ dolls were unique, but have never wanted one for myself. Yesterday, I saw this little one posted in the Facebook BJD Adoption page and I loved her. I hadn't seen Angela before, but she's just so weird and adorable; she reminds me of the sort of oddball critters I would have doodled when I was a kid lol. I had to have her, so I asked the seller if I could do a short layaway. She had someone else interested and I was worried that the fact that I had to pay in two parts would prevent me from getting her, but this morning she accepted my offer! I paid a $20 deposit and I will split the remaining amount over the next two weeks so I can pay in two smaller amounts on my next two pay days. I'm super excited! I have a Big Dipper set on layaway and he/she should be paid off in March. ((thanks TwistedRiver for helping me order!)) I'm getting the default faceup/blushing... I don't have the skills to do my own and I'm too impatient to save up the funds to pay someone to do it. XD If I could, I would have had one painted like the default but in shades of purple instead... but the blue ones I've seen on google image search are gorgeous as well.
I've been really paranoid about what the stringing/posing will be like when it arrives though... I'm rethinking my plans on getting it new eyes now after hearing how tricky it is to change them.

Wystearya: I have both Wendy and a Eudora! I haven't actually ever taken any photos of my Eudora, I've been waiting to buy some backdrops for that, but I'll snap an in house pic for you later! I love the resin quality. Beautifully smooth and the white skin takes colour so well. When the stringing is done correctly, Wendy's posing is amazing. DZ is known to do bum stringing, though. I was rreally lucky and got a really nicely strung one, but I have a friend whose Wendy was super kicky and couldn;t do anything with her at all and she had t retsring and even then had to suede and wire her. My Eudora's posing is a tad limited because of her engineering, and I expect BigD will be the same. The knees don't move inward so much, just a tad, but enough to strike a pose. The BigD's are known to be strung well, though. I don't think many have had problems with them? So, I think you should be good on that end. And if you're painting him yourself you'll have to restring anyway, so it's no big deal. I will warn you that the stringing is a bit more complicated for the BigD and Eudora types so pay attention when unstringing him. Their heads are really deep and narrow so hard to get the eyes in. Make sure you got a Q-tip on hand for eye positioning. UM, and I think that's it? But, yeah. I really love DZ's resin! It's hard to explain, but it's some of the nicest in my bunch. I even like it better than my Fairyland resin, the company everyone goes bonkers for, haha.

He is sealed in full with MSC original as I bought a few cans the last time we imported it. The majority of him is done with high quality chalk pastel. Make sure there is no oil, it discolours the resin! And water colour pencils from staediler. And I use Reaper Acylic Minature paints as they blend well with water, and the flow improver, they are bright and vibrant and come in a lot of premix colours and it is easy to control colour ratio with the eye dropper bottles. So I can mix paint and then get close to the same colour if I need to re mix. It also works with my airbrush so that is what I use.
Also the string in them is an elastic that is braided with threads around it. I have a whole bunch of sizes if you want me to show you mine? And most dolls come loose so hot glue suading is a good option as is tightening the elastic in them. They often come loose to prevent damage. My Cuprit can stand on one leg after we tightened her elastic and Hot Glue suaded her.

I don't know about those particular dolls (I'm having a hard time navigating Volks' webpage), but Volks is typically more expensive than other companies. Their dolls are gorgeous, though, and I'm going to try to save up for a SD Coco by the end of the year. 2016 doll goal!

I was thinking about the Citadel Purity Seal, but I got mixed reviews when searching it. Same thing for Testors actually.. So, I don't know for sure what to try.
I know I will need a new (low temp) hot glue gun, as mine is the high temp and I read that could melt or burn the resin. I do NOT want to do that!
So much to think about. I guess it's a good thing there is a 3-4 month wait. lol!

I haven't seen them on the website, but Amazon is selling them for around 1200-4120 dollars if I remember correctly, and I just can't fathom why even a comparatively small one like Illyasviel costs that much.

I just got my second ABS bjd yesterday, (early bday pressie from mum) He's a white hujoo nano Freya I'm doing my best to resemble the cat who I spend 14 wonderful years with before he passed away. Should be a simple customization process since my baby was pure white with pinkish undertones where his fur was thinner.
Unfortunately his eyes aren't scheduled to arrive till middle of next month so I made him a pair of temps till I get better ones.
Still waiting sadly on my Elfkin baby, I wonder if Bobobie is having issues since everything I've read should have had him arriving by now.
No I ordered from DDE on September 1st but as of the last time I emailed them, they had yet to hear anything from bobobie and keep telling me hopefully soon. I've seen a lot of others get their dolls from other companies through DDE pretty quick but the wait times for bobobie keep going up and up. When I ordered him I was told estimated delivery was 8 to 12 weeks now on their site bobobie is listed as taking approximately 10 to 18 weeks.
I don't really want to email them again, as I know they can only do so much but I am really starting to get worried/annoyed/depressed about this. :/

Emerald Treasure: Kdfs do not generally have magnets set into them unless they come with fanatasy parts themselves, like if they were a limited or soemthing. YOu'll have to add them in yourself. I suggest those strong earth magnets.

Yup it was mine. I was edging on a pukifee idea. The only doll I've ever regretted selling and still miss is my Ante.
What do you guys do if you're not happy with your dolls, do you sell them or try to make them better?
So if I did end up selling them, where's the best place to advertise? I know that most of you only buy smaller dolls and the 1/3 dolls are too big, so there maybe not much point in advertising on here. Also I live in New Zealand so it has to be somewhere that allows international sellers. I don't think eBay would be good as I haven't seen any sold SD or DD Volks dolls.
Facebook has loads of good sell pages, tooI was gonna say the same, I find it much easier to sell things in the BJD groups. Of course then you don't get to see any kind of feedback but everyone I've sold to/bought from has been lovely so far :)

The seller has 100% feedback, but I'm still feeling wary here. Am I overthinking it, or does this sound risky to you guys too? I'm not in a rush to get a resin doll because I'm super into vinyl right now, but if I can snag a good deal, I certainly wouldn't mind it.
They could be yellowed. The seller could be getting out of dolls.
Which dolls are they? If they're not popular sculpts that'll drop the price a lot too
It's hard to know without knowing which bodies they are - how much did they cost originally? Are they body types that had known engineering issues? Are they just unpopular? Are they from companies with known yellowing/greening issues? Known non-standard colours (so it would be hard to find a head to match them)?
Those are all things that drive prices down.
As for not having CoAs or sculpt names - the CoAs are often sold with the heads, so if the head was sold previously it's not surprising for them not to have it. Same thing with not including the sculpt name: it doesn't matter if the body is used for a whole line of their dolls.
Yeah, Serendipity went out of business at least 6 years ago (maybe even longer, actually), so I wouldn't be surprised to see a low price on one of their bodies just because of the age.
I'd be more surprised to see a low price on an Iple SID body though, since those are one of their newer lines. Still, if someone wanted a quick sale they might still drop the price to make it happen. That said, I'm pretty sure there are SID recasts out there, so you're not wrong to be cautious.
So some questions for you guys in here. I need some opinions on this because I'm getting a bad vibe about it.
I saw some doll bodies with dirt cheap starting prices today(they're going up as I type from bidding though), so I thought that could be a way for me to put my foot in the door for resin dolls, but I can't help but feel suspicious.
So the first thing is the prices. Extremely low. They only have one low quality picture of each body. Neither come with a CoA/box/anything(One of them SHOULD have a CoA. I can't find that info for the other. I guess that company shut down.) And their descriptions are really vague about their condition and whatnot.
One of them doesn't even have the name for body. Just the company. While the other has the name of the body, but not the company(Found it on my own) So the good news is that neither dolls are on the DoA recast list, so they're probably legit. But that leaves me wondering what the heck is wrong with them then. :blink: The pictures are bad, so I'm wondering if they're badly yellowed or something and I'm not able to tell?(They had the flash on, of course)

I'm trying to find a pair of flats for my Mystic Kids Lillian, who has 5.5cm feet. I've been eyeing a pair on eBay with a 6.5cm inner, but I'm worried that those might be a little too big, especially since my girl will be wearing them without socks.

This is going to sound slightly ghetto but if the feet are fat enough but the shoe is just to long, I stuff paper into the toes. >_> That way they can't slide down and it at least looks like they fit.
But since they have the same length as MNF my favorite shoe person for them on E-bay has pairs for like $13.50 shipped. They're just flats though. Hi everyone! Just thought I'd say hello after admiring the pics in this thread. Getting into BJDs over the past few weeks. My dream doll is the Raclette along with the additional Paupiette faceplate and I'm really hoping a preorder for them is back open again soon, so I don't regret jumping on my second fave choice now, haha >_<

In all honesty my original plan was to try and replicate the company's face-up that they make for her, but I don't know anymore. Right now she seems to be cheerful goth as far as style goes, so maybe something along those lines? I am excited for when I do have the time to paint her up, her sculpt is going to look amazing with the details accentuated!

Aloha is so adorbs! I do think maybe bigger feet would've been helpful for making her stay upright, but I have to say I love her little toes!
I think who ever sculpted Elfkins were onto a good thing, it seems everyone loves their ears. I am debating whether to got one or to stick with frogs. I much prefer little dolls to the big ones and gorgeous as they can be and the Elfkins are calling. It's a pity bobobies website has such terrible photos.
And yes, the Alohas feet are adorable, as are her hands. They are very delicate little fingers and she has sweet little dimples over her knuckles. I have to say the detail on them is surprising. I just hope pipos rein in on the giant heads, she's a brilliantly made doll and I would get another by the company without a doubt. But if new sculpts are all destined for the head treatment it would put me off and I'd get older ones only.
Oh and she has a name now, she is Fossey, to fit in with my real frogs names of famed naturalists.

I think I am talking myself out of getting one of the fairyland hippogriffs. I really, really want one, but it's not a financially responsible decision at the moment :(Same :huh: I'm trying to save some money for the fair and I'm barely squeaking by to begin with. Plus I hate that there is no combo option, I'd have to buy the full hippogriff and a full realfee to achieve what i want and that just shoots the price waaay out of range.

Yeah, and now I'm completely devastated. They were both OOAK art dolls and when I went to look at them again last night, one had sold. The night before, the seller told me she would not be open to a payment plan. So I was scrambling to see what I could sell to pay for them, but was planning to make the purchase this weekend. I didn't expect them to sell so fast. Naturally, I snapped up the other one as soon as I saw that. Still, devastated...

so i've never done layaway with a company before, in the past i've either bought second hand, or sold like crazy to buy the doll out right. well.. that's what i'm doing for the frise doll and the doll leaves jeremy. for those that have done dolly layaway. how did it go for you?
i was thinking of doing 6 months, so they will come just after Christmas, but maybe that's bad planning. as i think i'd have to pay extra for shipping that month.
should i wait to see if doll leaves or luts have any events over the next few months to take advantage of? or should i just order them and wait?
has anyone one ordered from Mint on card before? it makes me a little nervous that they can cancel your order and keep the payments if they want to. yes there are conditions etc, but still a little scary.

I buy dolls most of the time on layaway, it is just easier for me to have my payments split up as my doll funds usually come from money I earn from my art. I have had layaway with Mint on Card several times and even currently have a layaway with them. I love MoC, they are so nice and have great customer service. You just have to pay your layaway payments on time, I suggest writing them on a calendar/planner/iPhone calendar or something like that. I think the cancelling your order and keeping layaway payments mostly happens with flaky buyers who stop making layaway payments and MoC has already ordered the doll and now they will be stuck with the remainder of the money owed for the doll as well as a doll. If you are making your payments on time, you shouldn't have any issues at all.

Have you seen the Our Generation laundry room playset (http://www.target.com/p/our-generation-laundry-set/-/A-49085508)? (I know Target's website says that it costs $49.99, but I've seen it in-store for $24.99.) It comes with a really cute wicker-style laundry basket.

I put up a WTB thread on DOA - desperately hoping someone will want to sell their fairyland hippogriff. Sigh. I also keep checking Denver Doll in case someone defaults on their layaway and one becomes available.
Don't know that I ever shared pictures of my Big Dipper, Cherish. They've gotten new eyes since I took these pictures... I'll have to snap another photo later. :P I'd love to see if anyone else has Big Dippers. ^.^

I recommend watching the second-hand market. There are some good deals out there. :)
I dont even really understand the difference.. they look very similar.
They do feel a bit different, ABS is much lighter (great for a travel/pocket doll! :) ) and a bit softer plastic and shinier. Painted/faceuped and sprayed with MSC its not really that noticeable. I'm glad I could help! :D All my BJDs are ABS and I really like it. They're a good place to start! You can always make the jump to resin later if you decide you want to.
As far as difference go I've always heard people complain that resin yellows like crazy, even in the dark...
Now I do know that Iplehouse's tan resins will turn green pretty much no matter what. It's made worse by sunlight, but it seems to eventually happen to all of them, whether they were exposed to UV light or not. :(

The difference was that the green one was made before they added the UV stuff and the other one has the UV protect. I also know that she keeps them only minimally protected from sunlight because she's like me and we're both super lax owners. lol

Okay that is good to know because I badly want a tan Tatiana, but I've been super nervous about getting one. But if they've added something to the resin that helps to prevent the greening then I'll definitely start saving up! :D

I've spent along time trying to convince myself I didn't need a bjd but I've finally given in and got one on a layaway. However I was on eBay and ended up buying a minifee shushu head. Does anyone know if DOA, doll leaves or impldoll bodies would work? And which colour would be a match the head is apparently evenly yellowed.

DOA? Which company is that? The only DoA that I know of is Den of Angels.
From what I've been able to find, MiniFee heads can hybrid with both Doll Leaves and Impldoll Young bodies. And Impldoll does resin matching, so you can send them the doll's head cap or face plate and they'll match it.

Once upon a time I had a little Lati yellow pirate belle. Over a year ago, a dear friend borrowed her. And never wanted to give her back. After bribing her with dolls she could keep (is that blackmail?!) little Belle is finally coming back. We're celebrating by sending her out for a new face. Maybe she'll be home for good by Christmas.
Had some blood drawn at the hospital on Monday and signed consent for the results to be used in a study. They gave me $100, so my Momonita layaway is paid off! Will donate blood for BJDs?Lol that's awesome! They can have mine too, all the blood they want! XD

I played with my boy dolls today. Dimitri, the oldest doll character I have, decided to change his wig and his hair color and style all the same time. His twin Camille, my Volks Yugiri, also got a new wig because of this. I'm so glad I had many extra wigs so that I didn't need to buy and wait for new wig for either of them.
Here's Dimitri in his new wig. Dimi is a Volks Sakaki and the wig is in the color "BlackBerry" from Leeke.

I hope that wait is coming along well! I'll be having Freya under the tree this year. She's going to be my first strung BJD, so I'm super excited too. I actually was going to go with Freyr as well, but they didn't have him in white lol. I hope you enjoy him! He's so adorable.

Do you have any plans in mind for Freyr? I'm already over here already trying to come up with names, the faceup I want to give her...hair/fur color for my Freya.
I've mostly been looking at photos of cats to get ideas for a coat pattern for him. lol
I got the light grey Freyr and I think that I'm going to get yellow-gold eyes for him. I haven't yet decided if I want him to wear a wig or not. I think I'll try a few on him when I open him and see how he looks with hair.
He doesn't have a name yet, but I'm probably going to make him the adopted son of one of my 17" MH dolls. :P I always thought that he'd make a great werecat boy for the Frightfully Tall Ghouls, but I don't have a werecat mama for him. lol
I hope you'll post pics of your Freya after you open her. I'd love to see her and see what you do with her! :D
