Off Topic / Monchichi fakies?
« on: September 27, 2013, 04:59:33 PM »
I found these toy hunting today. Do they look familiar to anybody? They all appear to be Monchichi-like foxes and they all have clippy hands, and the two brown ones have jingle bells in their tails. (The red one, curiously, does not.)

Pony Brag Arena / New ponies and also an alt. rehair!
« on: September 04, 2013, 09:24:03 PM »
This is the first time I've ordered from shopgoodwill, which is something that I've always wanted to do, so naturally I'm pretty excited about it! I don't actually have that package yet, but it should be arriving Thursday or Friday and I figured I'd update this once I got the chance to take pictures.

But I did want to go ahead and start a brag because of my excitement for my first alt. rehair! Not by me, of course... I'm not that talented! :silly: It's a Peach Blossom by the ever-lovely Sunshine. I've admired the alt. thread for a long time now, but never made a point to actually buy one before. But the moment I saw this one, I knew I had to have her! So I stalked Sunshine's ecrater and snatched her up the moment I saw she was selling her.

Sunshine is just way sweet too. She also sent me some extra little goodies which I think is really nice.  :inlove:

Once little Peachie got here, her Flutter sisters decided to throw her a welcome party in a tree, which I guess is just what all the cool Flutter kids are doing these days.

Heheheh, this image cracks me up so much. It looks like Yum Yum is really absent-minded and confused here. She must be the resident ditz. (I mean that in a good way... I'm really ditzy too both online and in real life!) Tropical Breeze just looks like she's saying "I wonder how long it will take her to notice that I'm staring at her."

I was going to take more, but I ended up having to cut the party short because of scary bugs.  :yikes:

Hope you enjoyed the brag, and like I said, I will try to update it once my other package comes. But if you've made it this far, then thank you! And if you are reading this, Sunshine, thank you too! She really is a very lovely pony. I was so thrilled to have her, that I made her the background image on my phone and showed everyone at work tonight. Most normal people say "Look at these 5000000 pictures of my kids!" and I'm just like "PONIES!"

UPDATE!
My package came today. The ponies are from Goodwill so of course they do need a good scrubbing, but once that's taken care of, I'm sure they will be fine.

Crumpet fakie! May not be a huge deal to most of you, but I'm a fakie princess and I love Crumpets, so I'm really happy to have her. I have a tradition of naming them after friends in real life, so this Crumpet's name is Amy.

Surprise with a bit of a smooze problem, but I can fix her, no biggie.

Banana Surprise with a factory curl and a bit of scent left.

Lofty with surprisingly thick, even flocking. Only a tiny spot is missing by her leg.

Sunglider was positioned in the auction picture to where I couldn't tell who she was. I don't really know a whole lot about Wingers, so I'm happy to see that it's one that I like. :)

Baby Cuddles with awesome, non-rusted eyes.

Cotton Candy with unfortunately quite a few problems. She has a rattle and these weird stains on her back that look like water stains. Anyone out there think they will come off?

Since I already have a Yum Yum, she'll be up for trade once I get her cleaned.

February Violet. I'm not huge on the Birthflowers, so she might be for trade as well. I haven't decided yet. I'd be willing to take May Lily of the Valley for her since that's my birthflower.

and the reason I bid on the lot at all...

Baby Crumpet! I've wanted her forever and was starting to think that I may never own her. First Tooths are way cute. Now I just need her fuzzy mommy.

I also got another surprise in the mail...

It's my Derby prize! I won sixth place this year and placed this pony at the top of my prize list. She is my favorite color, and I adore her. Thanks a ton for sending her out, hathorcat!

And thanks to you, lovely people, for reading my brag. :lovey: :frolic: :grouphug:

Pony Corral / My Little Pony basket?

Does anyone know where this came from? My friend works at Goodwill and had it conveniently hidden out of plain sight for me.

For the longest time, I've avoided shopgoodwill because they only accept Mastercard and Visa, and my main CC provider is neither of those. Then a while ago I got a debit card which was Visa, and I checked the FAQ to make sure that they would still accept debit as well as credit. I was so sure that they did, so I made an account.

Well, today I won my first shopgoodwill lot and I'm extremely confused, because as I gave them my information, I just kept getting an error screen saying that it could not be processed. WHAT? Everything is correct on it. Is it because shopgoodwill will not take a debit card? I'm kind of confused by the format of the website anyway, and now I'm freaking out.

Under S&H charges it just said $4.00 by the pound, so I figured $4.00 was the shipping charge, maybe a little more if the ponies ended up being close to two pounds. (There are 12 of them so I doubt it.) When the total came back to me, they actually charged $11.00 for shipping, and $4.00 for handling. WHAT? That's $15, more than I payed for the ponies themselves! How is that fair? Unless I'm just confused.

And now I'm freaking out because I know I can pay for it, but will it not accept it? Has anyone had these problems before? HELP!

Pony Corral / Music that makes you think of ponies
« on: July 17, 2013, 07:43:56 PM »
I thought this would be a fun idea for a thread, even though it might be a little dorky.  I seem to remember a similar one on the old Arena, and a person had mentioned that the Beatles song Here Comes The Sun reminded them of pony collecting, mostly in terms of mood and the general positivity in the lyrics.

Then a while ago I made the observation that if you take any love song and replace words like "my baby," "my love," "my darling," etc. with "my pony," then it could be twisted into a song about collecting. Seriously, try it.  :)

The song in my head that made me start thinking this was Somebody's Baby by Jackson Browne. It could very well be turned into a song about finding your grail!

"Well just look at that girl with the lights coming up in her eyes" could be about a Twinkle Eye... Mimic and Bright Eyes are both popular grails. "She's probably somebody's only light, gonna shine tonight" could be a Glow N Show or the TRU Zecora. "Cause when the cars, and the signs, and the streetlights light up the town" reminds me of driving down to Wal Mart after work to go look for Blind Bags. The lines about getting over your fright and going to talk to "her" could be turned into being about saving up all the money you need for your grail and not being afraid to spend it, and then actually talking to another collector to go buy it.

Then of course, it's all because she's got to be somebody's pony.  ^.^ So yay, I finally have a pony theme song! Another thing that makes it extremely fitting is that both My Little Pony and Somebody's Baby came out in 1982.

And yes, yes I know this is really eccentric, but I can't help it. I've been rewriting songs in my head since I was about six years old, so this kind of comes naturally. I've done this for other interests too, and sometimes not even interests but just whatever comes to mind. I was Weird Al before I knew who Weird Al even was. :P

So I'm just kind of wondering if anyone else does anything like this, and maybe if you can share your songs here if you do?

I bought this little orange gal from Ashlyne at the MLP Fair. I was a little apprehensive at first since she was a $20 fakie, but I love fakies! So when I saw her still there by the end of Sunday, I couldn't resist snatching her up.

I pmed her a little bit later just because I was curious about everything she knew about the fakie, but unfortunately, it looks to be a mystery at this point. She said she had gotten her from a Spanish seller who didn't speak a lot of English, so asking a lot of questions was out. But she noticed that she does bear a resemblance to the piggies, plus the seller is Spanish, so the assumption is that the fakie is Spanish too. (I think she looks a little Remco-like too?)

She's made with that transparent orange plastic that you don't really see anymore, so I'm guessing '80s or '90s. She has a colored in mouth, and it's hard to capture her knees in photos, but they have swirls molded into the plastic. (Kind of what you would see on a chubby cartoon character.) Another odd characteristic is that the plug is on the body, not the head, and the neck overlaps in an unattractive, lumpy fashion. (I still think it's adorable though! )

Does anyone know anything about these little guys? Are there more of them out there? Are they all over Europe, or just from Spain? Who was the manufacturer? So many questions in one little mysterious gal!

Off Topic / Fun things for elderly people to do.
« on: June 22, 2013, 10:11:44 PM »
Kind of a bizarre thing to request, I know, but my grandmother is 80 and loves doing stuff. Problem is, she has some trouble sometimes getting around, and I think she gets bored easily. Does anyone have any ideas for stationary things that we can do together? We're talking about doing a puzzle sometime soon, and we like to bake and we like to go out to restaurants together. (The latter is getting quite difficult to do these days.)

She recently had a heart catheterization, and soon she is having her gallbladder removed. I'm trying to think of some fun things that the two of us can do together while she recovers to keep her entertained without having to get up and move around so much.

Pony Corral / Show me your stolen-mold fakies!

Today I picked up these pirated G3 girls from a gas station, and I'm in love. I've never seen any with these symbols before!

I do have a thing for Hasbro-mold fakies. I love them, love them, love them! I wanna see yours! Here are some of mine!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

This one is most certainly my favorite out of the three. The photo doesn't catch how vibrantly pink she is!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I have a tradition of naming my Crumpets after people I know, so this is Beth, after a close friend and coworker of mine. It's not in the picture, but Beth the pony wears a quarter around her neck that I got from some customers as part of a tip. I thought Beth deserved to wear it because human Beth and I were the only ones who found it fascinating that the quarter had a hole in it, and we spent the rest of the evening wondering how it got there. Because we are dorks, that's why.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Sigh. The only downside to this tradition is that this is my favorite of my Crumpets, Lauren, named after the person who was my best friend at the time. Let's not get into that. I'm not changing the pony's name, because after I gave it to her it stuck. I guess if I can learn anything from Lauren the pony, then it's to chose my friends a little more carefully.

(I also have another Crumpet, but no pictures on hand. It's a yellow body/purple hair named Frances, a girl with whom I have no complaints, but she is friends with Lauren and I have not spoken with this group of people in at least a year.)

Buuuuuuuuuut the point of this is to not bring people down, so I'm moving on.  :)

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

These two Crumpets are the only exception to this tradition. The pink one is Cynthia and the purple one is her husband, Tim. Tim is so named because I'm absolutely obsessed with Tim Curry, so I guess that kind of fits. Cynthia as a name just kind of came out of nowhere though. The yellow DG baby is their daughter, Julia, after the Beatles song because I'm also absolutely obsessed with the Beatles.

Dollar General fakies by Boley, who also happen to be among some of the first ponies I ever had in my collection. (I'll be honest, one thing I miss about college is campus photoshoots!)

And I guess that's all I have on hand, but I hope you liked them! Please show me yours because I wanna seeeeeeeeee!  :enthralled:

Pony Corral / Help with Sugar Apple
« on: May 30, 2013, 07:24:29 PM »
So last week I got a lot of ponies that included Sugar Apple.

I'm pretty happy since I love her.  But I'm not looking forward to fixing up her hair, since it's... weird.

Never before have I seen such a strange combination of both minty and frizzy.

I know that isn't uncommon for these ponies, but I've never worked with one with these types of curls before.

I'm just wondering if there's a way that I can somehow work the frizz back into the curls, since they are otherwise mint, or should I just straighten them out and then try my first ever straw curling project?

I guess I could just leave her as is, but the frizz is driving me nuts.

MLP Nirvana / So many pretty ponies... PC help?
« on: May 25, 2013, 11:18:26 PM »
I really shouldn't have done it... but I'm up late at night looking at various nirvana ponies and I'm a little sad because I don't have any yet! (The closest thing to a nirvana pony I have is a UK Snowflake, but UK ponies don't really count, do they?  :P) So far, I've saved 21 pictures because I'm greedy and it's hard for me to pick favorites.

At this point I really can't afford them, especially since I'm really thinking of grad school and I don't want to look back 20 years from now and regret choosing ponies over higher education. Still, can I get some ballpark prices please, so that I can know how much to put away in the piggy bank? Again, this is a curiosity thread, not an "I'm seeking to buy right now" thread. But who knows, maybe one of these will end up being cheap. It's not likely though since I'm pretty sure I've picked a lot of expensive ones, but I can't help it, I really love them!

Links to mylittlewiki since I know there are a lot of variations.

But really, I do appreciate the help.

Off Topic / A question for the ages...
« on: May 21, 2013, 07:52:40 PM »
I've been watching a lot of the Looney Tunes lately and...

No, really, it's a legitimate question.

Because there seems to be a lot of dispute over this and really, the cartoons make sense either way. Plus, a poll sounds really fun.

Spoiler
He's always been a boy to me.  ;)

Today my dog was attacked by another dog while we were out on our walk. We're both okay, we really are, but I'm just incredibly shaken up and angry.

So can I please see your G1s? I have a feeling that ponies will help sooth my mood.

Pony Brag Arena / Happy birthday to me indeed!
« on: May 12, 2013, 09:56:10 AM »
First of all is this childhood brag. She was my cousin's, actually, but a few weeks ago she gave her to me!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

My poor grandpa, bless him, was a heavy smoker for his entire life, so all of that smoke still hasn't completely left our grandma's house. I wiped her down with a magic eraser and washed her hair, and the sink was brown! Ewww! But it was well-worth it because I adore these Dream Beauty fakies. She just needs a name now... My cousin's name is Miranda, so I was thinking something alliterative like "Magical Miranda" or "Merry Miranda." Suggestions?

But of course the point of the brag comes from the fact that, well, yesterday was my birthday! And I have plenty of ponies to show for it too!

Grandma came up to me last week and said that she really wanted to buy me ponies for my birthday, but didn't know what I didn't have, so she wrote me a check and told me to ship them to her house so she could wrap them.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I picked Waterfire and Sealight. Honestly, I can't think of two better ponies that I would rather associate with the amazing person who is my grandma. :lovey:

But that's not all. Mom and I went up to Indianapolis yesterday for a shopping trip. I'll spare you the clothing brags because they are plentiful, but I talked her into trying some Goodwill Outlets and we rescued some ponies!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Mom found Tink actually. I'm proud of her. She's in really nice shape too... but the Outlets are so gross that I fluffed her up in the dryer anyway just to feel better.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

She also found Crystal Lace! I should take her pony hunting more often because she has amazing luck.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I found McDonald's Serendipity though, and poor, poor thing! She's so beat up that I'm going to scrub, scrub, scrub her! Mom suggested that I try an alt. rehair with her, though I'm sure her hair can be saved. Trying my hand at an alt. is incredibly tempting though.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And not a pony, but I rescued poor Bulbasaur because I felt so sorry for him. He just looked so sad. He was pretty gross so I gave him a wash. He's still in the dryer, so I'm not sure how he turned out, but poor thing.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Also not a pony, but it's Spyro! Once I get him cleaned up, he'll be for trade at the Fair.

Right after my grandma gave me pony money, my brother came up to me and asked what I wanted for my birthday other than ponies. I told him all about Darlin' Dinos and...

I'd say it's been a pretty great birthday. Definitely one of my favorites so far.

Off Topic / Non-Specific General Toy PC (includes fakies)
« on: May 03, 2013, 09:21:31 AM »
So those of you who have seen my thread in the Pony Corral, I'm trimming my want list down a bit and organizing it for the Fair.

There are a few general toys I collect that I may be looking for, so I'm wondering if I can get some general prices for some of these? I know they are very broad.

Fakies:
Crumpets
Dollar General Babies
Vintage Lanards (Pre-1990, the ones with the oddly-shaped heads, but the pretty body designs)
Bratz Sea Ponyz
Totsy

Other Toys:
Darlin' Dinos (Figurines, Poseable, Dress-ups, etc.)
Little Pretty
Tumble Surprise (Specifically Teeny Tiny Tumble Surprise)
Cherry Merry Muffin (This one is more of a maybe... I already have Miss Cherry Merry herself, but what seems to be the general value of her friends?)
Shimmers (I have Deerlene, but will probably be looking for other adults, especially Meadow. The babies are a maybe at this point.)
Wuzzles (Plush only- I already have Eleroo and Hoppopotamus.)

I should also probably add that I do not collect accessories, so I'm not looking for full sets, just the dolls.

I know it's less than the Pony list I posted, but still sort of a lot, so thanks in advance!

Pony Corral / Watercolor Sea Pony hair?
« on: May 02, 2013, 01:38:39 PM »
There's a conversation I have going on with some Tumblr friends concerning Watercolor hair... so I thought I'd ask the Pony gurus here!  :)

We were all kind of wondering what the materials are that make up their hair. I actually have yet to own one of these so I can't say I've ever touched one before, but they are supposed to feel like cotton? It certainly isn't regular nylon hair. (One of these friends is from Germany and the other I'm not sure... so were there international differences?)

Also, what was the technology that made it change colors? Same with the body changing- I think that's a really cool idea for a toy and I'm really curious!
