I'm kinda following pukunui's footsteps here (loved the pin-up Operetta!), I had a boudoir style shoot with RM OperettaAwesome!

And yes, I'm glad I decided to keep her as well, especially because my wife took one look at her and declared her her favorite (mainly because of her striking red hair and victory rolls, which she said stood out against the rather "bland" hair colors/styles that all the other dolls have).
I have one more pin-up shot to do. It's an extra-special one. Then I'm planning on pairing up Opie with Plumsweet for my next MH-MLP crossover.
Well Pukunui and CasseminaPie I think your both wrong(runs and hides LOL) :P . I think she is a bit of both, a bit of pink but not enough to be all the way pink(if that makes any sense) with a hue of light lavender.Then again each doll could be different :). I did a handmade swap with Heftysmurf and got my package in today. Some eighties-inspired stuff and a Gryffindor scarf! (I'm a huge Harry Potter fan). The ruffled skirt is reversible.Hoooray! As for his design, I am loving all the little details, especially that fin down his spine. I had no idea it was there. I didn't know about the gills on his neck either or the scales on his chest. As backgrounds I used sheets of scrapbook paper, I used that idea from pukunui who had mentioned at one point that he used them sometimes.I sure do! They are pretty handy.

Very cool. I always like the items better when they've got at least two colors to them. The one-color plastic bits always look so ... well, plastic. :huh:
What kind of paint do you use? I tried using my acrylic paints that I bought to use with my custom plastic gaming miniatures, and while it goes on the dolls OK, when I tried it on some of the accessories that came with my I <3 Fashion Frankie, it didn't really want to go on so nicely. It just sort of pooled in blobs away from the edges and stuff. I guess it depends on the kind of plastic.
Oh OK. It tried all right. It just didn't coat that well. I've been meaning to put on another coat or two. The initial coat just didn't bond that well. I have Vallejo paints.

Confession: I don't much care for Spectra's signature outfit. I've been hoping to get her fashion pack (hopefully it gets rereleased).Me neither. That whole tacky "ball and chains" motif really turns me off.

This is my personal experience with buying a custom doll:
-Looks utterly amazing!! Love, love, love the way she looks.
-She had her toes painted, and on day two while changing her shoes the nail polish fell off. Ok, no worries, I don't like showing her toes anyways.
-I was putting on Ghoulia's #1 Fan socks, the socks left paint on her legs. Tried to wipe it off, the body paint started to peel off. Changed body to non-custom body.
-Lips and nose started to crack real bad, black lines forming on her face from it.
So, was it worth the money. Yes. If you are only going to display them and NEVER touch them, EVER.
Would I do it again? Probably, I learned that as lovely as the customs look they don't hold up to being played with at all.
Someone on tumblr asked for pictures of her without the hat so I thought I'd post them here as well. :3 I almost wish I had a Signature release too, just to compare the faceups.

That's because her story is she is the Ghost Princess of the Japanese Empire in my backstory for her. Spectra is just the name she uses for school to have a sense of Normalcy for a ghost girl. She was "born" as a baby ghost when she and her mother died in childbirth so her father the king died shortly after from a broken heart. Her name is Princess Madoka Iza Bera Mio Uruwashii (Princess Isabella Mio Uruwashii Madoka), daughter of Mio Katonaka Madoka and Rhuen was a little baby ferret that died in the palace but was found by her parents an was given to Isabella as a "death day" gift. So now that they have been reunited, she dresses in a formal kimono when she is photographed. Of course she took on the pseudonym Spectra Vondergeist because she is the daughter of the ghosts.

I have striped stockings like those, and the same shoes from the same etsy seller for my CAM (Rhonda) and I can't have them on at the same time and it makes me a sad panda.I softened them up in boiled water first. You gotta be fast, though - the resin hardens up almost immediately, so you won't really have time to dry them out first. LOL.

Yep, my local dollar store started carrying it and pretty cheap so I've been using it up a storm. I've been using pastels to draw/write/color on it but the skullinary arts pic I used a colored pencil but it doesn't have quite the same pop as the pastel. Regular chalk would probably work as well but I couldn't find any then I remembered pastels are basically chalk and dug them out of my closet.Cool! I might have to give it a try sometime!
As for my that pumpkin headed guy, he's basically a headless vampire CaM. I got an extra one to use with the puma when I got him. In the intriem, I put a pumpkin on it as a joke...except he sort of stuck and is actually one of my favorites now. His name is Ichabod DiCapitatio.LOL. That's funny.

Ahhh. I got 4 out of 5. I blame the fact that SS Frankie is wearing custom stockings (couldn't identify as part of her stock, and hides her coloring), and part of GR's dress. XD I guessed signature instead of her, because GR is wearing that that dress.Yes, the fact that they weren't all in their stock was throwing everyone off. No one actually guessed SS Frankie until I told people to look closely at the left arm.

I heard some people don't like the large gold dahlia on her hair bar. -- It's removable but I like it.I like it in theory; I just think they made it too big.
It's still too hard to tell if the new Spectra has a new head mold or not. Is there definitely a difference in person? I'm thinking about trading my sig Spectra for her, but if she doesn't look much different, I may just keep the two I have and try to get PD Spectra's stock sometime.There's definitely something different about her face, but it's pretty hard to tell what it is. It's possible her cheeks aren't as sunken. Her eyes look a little wider to me. It could just be that her hair is parted on the other side, though.
Yay Draculaura! she's so pretty will definately be getting her once they hit the UK (says the Draculaura hater XD) Just a question though, is her outfit a dress or a seperate top and skirt? *hopes for the latter because the top part just doesn't look right to me, the skirt is fabulous though* I love Lagoona's braid in Clawdeen's book! i hope they release a version of her like this, she needs a fishtail braid!!!

With my flatiron. Just take the hair in about half-way down and make a "munching" type motion with the flat-iron rotated about 45- to 90-degrees from how the hair enters the iron. I don't know how to describe it other than that. The hair falls out a little bit at a time and you get that curl. You also twist the iron at the ends. The more twist you have in the iron, the more dramatic the curl. You could always skip the "munching" and just pull through. I had it on its lowest setting, too. Let me know if that helps. I chopped less than an inch off of the front sections to make it more dramatic, too.

Nothing specific, really. I just think alot of the accessories are lacking painted details. Robecca's comes to mind, and DDG Spectra's shoes bother me too! Funny that you fixed them :lol: I painted my CAM Skeleton shoes. I didn't understand why they would give a white doll, white shoes :huh: I painted alot of the details sloppily. I also tried to paint Frankie's GB shoes yellow, but I couldn't get the yellow to cover the base color:( I wound up laying the yellow down pretty thick. I'm just a mess all around :lol:

I went out (again) today, and found the Scaris girls at the Walmart at Adams and M-59. I don't know how far out that is for you, or if you've already got them, but there are plenty there. They also had the Siren and Harpy add on's. Still no sign of the ice/blob or mummy/gorgon girls, though we've GOT to be close...

Everything fits really well, accept for the shoes, quite obviously. Even the headband. But the legwarmers only work as arm-warmers.

Out of interest, how long did it take you from start to finish to make this image? I'm a photoshopaholic, but editing always takes ages because I'm never quite satisfied with the outcome.Hmm. Thanks everyone <333 I am soooo in love with repainting MH stuff, its my new addiction heh
DiamondDreams- I used acrylic paint for everything. The Golden acrylic paint I have seems to work the best when its not watered down, that's when it sticks the best. The only other paint I use is Liquitex heavy body paint and TBH that's kind of a pain to use on the plastic. You have to do it in a bunch of thin layers otherwise it gobs up and if its too watered down it beads up and doesn't stick. I think I'm finally getting the hang of a method that works best for painting on the plastic lol.
Those Robecca shoes make me want to do a Lady Mechanika custom... Too bad she didn't catch my attention before I met Joe Benitez who was a total jerk to me and made me completely disenchanted with Lady Mechanika.

Yup. I "met" him at Dragon*Con this year. I bought a limited edition LM 3 cover at the Aspen Comics booth because I'd had no luck finding that issue in the comic shops near me. I went up to him to get him to sign it, and I was like "Thank you so much, I love Lady Mechanika! The character is so original and the art is beautiful. I've been searching for this issue- none of the shops near me have it!" and his response was "Oh." and then tossed the comic back to me. So disheartening. My uncle's been collecting comics longer than I've been alive and he said he wasn't surprised, Joe Benitez is not really known to be a people person.Those Robecca shoes make me want to do a Lady Mechanika custom... Thanks guys! I honestly wasn't crazy for the blob girl, but seeing her in person, has totally changed that. I'm going to darken her brows a bit to get them to stand out better, but aside from that, she's adorable. Cate, I am not in love with the Siren either. There is something just off about her, and I can't quite place it. I really don't like her tail colors (too 80's Barbie!) or the mismatched torso/head or the dumb plastic belt or the fact that the torso doesn't sit we'll in the tail. I really want to love her, but I just don't.Yep. I'm bummed about it. Her eyes are too buggy, her forehead is kind of buldgey, and the wig...oh lord that wig. I loved it at first, but it just isn't as pretty in person. The colors clash with her tail, that clashes with her body, that clashes with her hair...and so on and so on. I hate to say it but Mattel, you struck out with that one. :(
I was actually stumped as to what to call the Blob girl. Nothing just seemed to fit, but I was flicking through the TV channels last night and the Gene Wilder version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was on, and I was like... GLOOP! AUGUSTUS! NO!!!! AUGUSTA GLOOP! and it just worked.

My mock up of Golden Opie. Her hair is rerooted, it needs to be layer trimmed and I need to tweak my dolls colors to match the mock up.I think Operetta will look lovely as a blond, I think it will be a nice contrast to her tattoos/scars/whatever they are. I've actually grown a bit tired of how matchy Operetta is (I have Killer Style Operetta): red/black hair, red/black tats, and red/black clothes. Thank goodness I got the purple rockabilly dress from the fashion pack to replace KS Operetta's clothes. I've been seriously considering rehairing my Operetta.
As much as I love yellow....I'm not a fan of bees. The hard part of this project has been avoiding black/yellow bee overtones.

It was not easy on painting at some points, and it also was not easy coming up with my own interpretations on the colorations for the shoes. @_@ Done in about a day and a half (of course there were breaks and sleep in here but still a day and a half).

It might be from Draculaura's Newspaper Club fashion pack, which features that shoe mold, but I thought the color was more pink.

At the risk of spamming the spam thread, I got my newly-rerooted Rochelle back from AcademicSquirrel today and I love her a million times more than I ever would have thought possible. Apparently her scalp is a bit sore, but overall I think she likes her new hair too!

Or, like in my sig Lala's case, the legs cannot support the dolls weight well enough to get them to stand on their own.

I like the jacket myself, but I can totally see why it might not appeal. To be honest, though, I must have spent the better part of an hour trawling through all my dolls' clothing looking for something that looked nice on her. She looked great in all black, like a true bogan westie (the stereotypical west Aucklander prefers to wear all black ... they also like mullets and pick-up trucks and things like that), but I thought she could do with a splash of color and that seemed to look OK. I've got a few other things I could try though. I'll keep at it. To me that jacket reminds me of the Joker or the Riddler from batman...Yeah, I can see that. It's the combination of the yellow and the purple.
I'm really hesitant to post this because I know I saw someone else post a repaint of these shoes before, and I can't remember who did it or what they even looked like. And I really don't want to be called a copy cat..

I was bored the other night and painted a couple items while watching my shows on Hulu.
I really would appreciate any constructive criticism or feedback. I am proud of the shoes but I know they aren't great, and I would like to improve.Spoiler
This last one isn't done. I'm actually hoping you guys might have some ideas on what else to do. I have never been a huge steampunk fan. In theory, I understand it.. But I'm just at a loss as to what details to do. I know in the gauges I want to change the blue to white, and detail the dials. Maybe make the knobs on the handles white, with a gold or silver ring around them, on a chrome shaft. The pipe trim on the purse though, I am contemplating leaving it copper.
Ideas?
