bjd owners be careful posting older dolls
« on: May 11, 2015, 09:10:40 PM »
There was a girl at the Resin Rose expo that was banned for bringing what the planners thought were two recasts. In reality it was an older Fairyland minifee head and a pukifee with a cracked head plate. Both dolls were proved to be legit dolls by DOA moderators. The poor girl was escorted out of the event by armed security guards.

Think before you accuse someone. And if you have an older doll, be safe!

Oh my goodness that is totally out of control.  :(  There should be no reason to ban what doll you bring to a doll gathering.  *siiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

That's sad and ridiculous. I can see banning recasts from an event...I can see if the people were found trying to sell their dolls to someone else...but to kick someone out for just bringing a doll that they thought was a recast with no proof that it was? I understand the anger that comes from recasts...but that's just witch hunt-like behavior. :(

Oh my gosh that's ridiculous. Like - who do they even think they are??? :/ Holy cow, if you're gonna be such a jerk about it, you should at least know what you're talking about before you ban someone. Is someone gonna claim that G1s are obviously recasts of G4s next? :P

I hope they sue the organizer's butts, no lie. If they paid money to get in there, they have grounds for a civil suit, I would think. Ugh!!

There's a trader support thread on DOA. It sounds like it got bad. I felt awful for the girl it happened to  I know I would have been in tears.

So here's something that's sort of confusing me - in the thread they claim she was trying to trade the head, but then she says she wasn't?

I mean, she could be lying to cover her butt, but like ... you can be banned from cons for possessing recasts now???? Even if you're just carrying around your doll, you can just be kicked out by scary armed guards? This is wild. I wonder how many future con-goers have been scared off from going to this con now...

I wouldn't go. I haven't hidden that I've owned recasts in the past. I certainly don't want to be hassled over it. Even with my dolls all being legit now.

She may be lying or they may be. It doesn't seem they were very on the up and up during the investigation.

There have been some inconsistent reports about the incident at Resin Rose but even if the doll turned out to be a recast holy crap they handled the situation very poorly. There are not even known recasts of the dolls she has, I mean there are easily found master lists of which dolls are known to be recasted and they didn't bother to consult them (which is honestly a handy resource to check before going shopping, personally if there are known recasts I want to know so I can shop a little more carefully if that makes sense). Even if the doll had been found out to be a recast I think a simple "hey you are welcome to stay here BUT please put that particular doll in your car/hotel room" would have sufficed.

I have an extremely old Volks Mimi from like 2002 back before Volks even started the headplate system, as much as I'd like to offload her I know selling her would be a nightmare because of stuff like this a lot of people assume no headplate = recast even though there are no none Mimi recasts, the head plates didn't start immediately and I know where it came from (my friend bought her for his girlfriend when he was in Japan from Volks like first showroom but they broke up before he could give it to her and I ended up with it eventually when he found out I had some of those weird dolls too) selling her would end up being a nightmare ><

I can understand your concern with selling her.

I do wish more people did their research on which dolls aren't available. It's not like it's hidden super secret information

I'm staunchly anti recast, and I can see why cons wouldn't want recasts- I mean what if someone sold a recast as legit, ripping someone off? BUT yeah this whole thing was just handled wrong. First off they had no proof. At most they could have talked to the person about their dolls, and maybe asked them to keep them out of sight if there were serious suspicions. But to escort her out, without really checking into the situation, was a bad move. I too own a Volks F-10 that doesn't even have a place for a head plate, she's from 2000 or 2001 before Volks started using head plates. I'd be seriously pissed if anyone tried to eject me from a meet or con on suspicion that my precious Millie was a fake.

yeah...this is why I'm scared to get into BJD's...what looks to be affordable is usually too good to be true most of the time

I was so shocked that happened! She was humiliated and roughly ejected from the meet by security!  All based on conjecture and rumor- so shameful.

I absolutely think that recast BJD dolls should be strongly discouraged, as it is art theft, but I can't believe how poorly that situation was handled.  Boy they would have regretted it if they had done that to me...

Apparently the person that Resin Rose did that too has left the hobby.  Can't say that I blame her.  That situation was ludicrous.

There is a bit more discussion here: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php/219494-The-consequences-of-copied-dolls/page42

I agree.  If they were really worried that it might be a recast, they could have simply told her the doll needed to be put away until authenticity could be proven.  And how hard would that have been if they're all members of DOA and have access to a camera?   >_<

That whole situation is ridiculous.  I make it no secret that I have owned, and do currently own recasts. I own legit as well - my doll family is pretty 50/50...I'd never take a recast to a doll meet, just for reasons like this.  And good luck to the person who tries to tell me that one of my legit dolls is recast.

I don't know how she reacted in person, but I can pretty much guarantee she took it better than I would have.  The fact that they had her forcibly removed with NO proof, and then basically slandered her rep in the doll community.  I'd flip out on somebody.
