I also would be hard pressed to always have CoAs for my dolls if I was just showing them off - my boxes are all packed away tightly and there's no way I'd want to dig the cards out all the time. Plus I have at least 2 that didn't come with them. And honestly I'd never ever have thought I'd need them at a meet if I wasn't planning on selling the doll. Granted I've never been to a larger meet/convention, but the thought never would have crossed my mind.

My certificates are with the boxes too-  and I wouldn't want to bring them even if easily accessible- what if I lost them or squished them or something? (Aside from the fact that it would be a pain in the rear to have them) There is no way I'd bring them.  Honestly if a BJD event that I went to was that ridiculous- I would never go to it.  There is no way at this point I will ever go to the Resin Rose convention- despite how close it is. That was definitely a witch hunt- so shameful.  I know they apologized but it seemed very grudging to me.

There is a pretty long debate about the "recast" debate on DOA-  http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php/219494-The-consequences-of-copied-dolls/page43
I don't think that a re-cast art doll is anything like a re-cast MLP from Hasbro.

I find recasts to be like religion and politics, you just don't bring them up in polite conversation.

SO MUCH this, lol

Well, I actually tend to disagree.  I think some people just don't know enough about it, and I don't think the spread of info is harmful.  I do think art theft is harmful.  I don't want to get into any fights about it, but I would like for people to avail themselves of the info out there...

People should always be informed.  But the arguments and hate from BOTH sides is definitely not necessary.  There are plenty of resources to learn from, and I'm always up for answering questions, but as soon as people start getting snarky, I'm out, lol.

I really like bjds. They're beautifull dolls but I don't think I want to be part of the community with them like with MH an MLP. Because I hear a lot of negative stuff about the community. And it's usually something like this. Something that is wrong. I dunno if it's the high prize these dolls have that spurs out so much negativity, jelousy and hate.

Honestly, if you stay off the confession blogs and generally avoid most of the doll community on tumblr, it's really not a bad group.  I've met TONS of awesome people on Instagram, and the other BJD owners here have always been nice.  Don't let the crabby people keep you out of a hobby you are interested in.  I'm not super-involved in the community, but I've made some friends through BJDs that I would never have met in any other way, and it's been totally worth it.  Just hang on the outside in the suburbs with us, haha!

Definitely don't let the bad apples get you down.  Every fan group has trolls and it's not too hard to avoid them if you stay away from unmoderated sites.

As for this last incident, I think it's given everyone something to think about and I have a feeling that most future events will have a better plan of action in place.

I don't go to many doll sites at all. I share my dolls here and our local doll group, which has a lot of wonderful people. We don't encourage recast dolls there, but members have brought theirs to meets and it's never become an issue. Most of us have ethical issues with the whole thing, but nobody has ever been kicked out or shamed for it. I avoid other sites because of the cattiness.

An honest discussion from both sides is one thing. However, generally it tends to be hate thrown from both sides and I don't think the Arena is an appropriate place.

Edit to add: Ladies, please, I didn't post this for yet another them vs us. Recast vs legit, ethics vs copyright etc etc etc. There are plenty of forums for that.

I posted this as a warning for legit owners. The witch hunts are getting ridiculous. I honestly don't give two figs what anyone thinks about recast dolls. I'm not so overly righteous that I need to know what everyone spends their money on. What I do have a serious issue with is the bullying and harassment that is taking place. Now not only against recast owners but against someone who maybe has an older doll or maybe did a home tan. If this is the direction the BJD community is headed, you might as well sell all your dolls or walk around with the COA stapled to your forehead.

This is why we are trying so hard to keep away from this debate at the Arena, because there are big ugly opinions, and we don't have the capacity to deal with this presently!

Ok I'm not into dolls so I'm pretty much just here for being nosy, but....can someone please explain to me why the guards were armed?

Liiike maybe I'm just clueless but it sounds really bizarre to be carrying around weapons at a convention about dolls.  :what:

As for this last incident, I think it's given everyone something to think about and I have a feeling that most future events will have a better plan of action in place.

I think for sure that the incident at Resin Rose was a shinning example of exactly what NOT to do and how ridiculous the witch-hunt type suspicions have gotten. I actually think the DOA handled it pretty well by stepping in and proving that the dolls the lady had were not recast.  I'm sure the Resin Rose people felt pretty shameful after that. Certainly there were a LOT of people very ticked off at how they handled the situation...  So yeah, I think it will actually have a good impact-  hopefully a motivation to would-be doll show organizers not to go all crazy.

I actually have met some really awesome doll people- many of them also pony people- and have never had a negative experience.  Just people who like dolls- a lot of them being people who like to craft or sew for them...

I guess I didn't catch that-  the guards were armed? That would be weird...

I'm also shocked the guards were armed at a doll convention. Really?!

Most of the time at conventions the security guards belong to the venue rather than whatever convention is there this week. You pay the venue whatever to use their guards, their gear itself varies from place to place but it isn't that unusual for them to be armed though guns are pretty rare, I have personally seen pepper spray/batons/ tasers/zip ties on the guards at local anime etc conventions.  Still a massive overreaction on Resin Rose's part no matter what they were armed with, she should have never been escorted out and treated like a criminal because they felt her doll was suspect.
