Organize ALL the ponies!

I'm unpacking all my ponies I brought home from college and now faced with the daunting task of making space for them and organizing them. I'm probably going to seperate my bug pony collection, put my favorites on my desk, and organize the rest by gen.

How do you organize your collection?

I organize them by generation, and each generation by series; like the Candy Canes together, Sundae Bests together, etc.

They mostly live in accessible boxes and I pull them out and put them back as wanted.  As a result there is no organization.

Oh I forgot to add a "By series/set" option! I knew I was missing something.

I'd like to do by set as well once my collection gets bigger.

same here, although I'm slowly running out of space so I will have to start grouping them up by pose, for greater efficiency

I "organize" them according to whom they like to stand next to Hehe, most of my ponies are childhood toys and I think it is a habit to put the friends next to each other. And that is why Barnacle always is close to his girlfriend Ringlets 

And why Spike is never far away from baby Firefly 

Oh, but the ones that are not for childhood often stand together with the other from their set - like the flutters.

Mine are by generation.

Then further to that the G1 are by pose generally speaking.
Then G3 are by colour.
G2 I don't have many so just sit together nicely.
And G4 all my mane 6 are together in columns, then the other G4 are in columns and get rotated as to who is at the front ^_^

seeing as i still have a very teeny collection they are organised by colour.

from left to right they go: pink, white, purple, green, blue, yellow, orange

but i'm thinking of finding a better system as i'm not 100% happy yet. but also don't have that many ponies yet...

Oh I have some ponies here... and there... and on my desk... And in Bags... And on the floor... And...hey, I forgot I had that pony!

by Gen and then by type/release (so all TE's together for example).  Then if something for some reason doesn't fit into that strategy, it's a bit random.

 Mine are organized by character, I guess you could say. Family stand with family, friends with friends. For instance, Moondancer, Sunlight, and baby Glory are a family in my herd, so they stand together, Rosedust and Forget-Me-Not are best friends, so they stand together, etc. My G4s are also separate from the rest of the herd, they have their own canon.
  I'm highly temted to sort them by color someday, whenever I see gorgeous collection pics like relcelestia's!
