Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Anyone else into Uglydolls?
« on: February 16, 2016, 08:30:43 AM »
After the designers switched plush companies again, looks like we're finally getting some new characters for the first time in several years. I'm really excited, and wanted to share.

Pony Corral / Huge pony room progress. I'm so excited!
« on: December 21, 2015, 10:43:05 PM »
So for those of you ho don't know, I went through a hard time a few years ago with a divorce and back surgery that necessitated a career change. I ultimately sold my house in the suburbs and downsized to a condo. During the transition, my parents graciously stored most of the contents of my pony room at their house for safekeeping.

Gradually, I've been readying my office/ spare room at the new place, and organizing ponies any time I went back home. Tonight, finally, my dad brought the last few containers of ponies to my house. I spent the rest of the night doing some more organization. My goal is to get some shelves in the coming year and have a display room for my ponies, Uglydolls, and a few other small collections. I'm so excited!!  :frolic:

It doesn't look like much, but believe me, it's progress! This stack of six bins in the corner beside my desk is almost all my G1's, pretty neatly organized. Ignore the color labels on the bins. My mom is loaning them to me, and she used them for something else. I'm not THAT organized.

All my G2's, G3's, G4's, a few fakes, and a few Fashion Star Fillies (the rest of those are still at Mom & Dad's. That's my next step, I swear!)  I kept a few supplies for restoration, customizing, and cleaning. I have also started a bin of duplicates and I may sell some in the future. I gifted some very common G4's, etc., to my parents' 4 year-old neighbor.

To stay motivated through the night, these musical ladies and I rocked out to a goth-flavored 80's/New Wave playlist that someone is sharing on Spotify.

Jeero and the other Uglydolls remain completely unimpressed with all my hard work. They're just wondering when I'm going to put their stuffed animal nets back up.

Now that I know where everyone is, I'm going to reopen my pony spa to start washing and styling so that everyone will be pretty and ready to go on display. So happy!!

MLP Nirvana / Tell me about Greek babies.
« on: November 23, 2015, 10:00:10 AM »
I have long been a fan of Peachy. I have a small Nirvana collection, and my original Peachy is one I've had since childhood. Pink Baby Ember was always her baby, but I've always thought that she needs a proper baby, and the only two that I know of are Argentina and Greek. I don't much care for Fancy Pants babies, so that means I've finally convinced myself that I need a Greek Baby Peachy.

I'm also partial to the ice blue shade of hair on one version of Greek Baby Blue Belle, which so far as I know was not used on any other pony besides her adult Greek mommy. So if I ever came across her at a time when I could afford her, I might have to get her too. Of course I'd love to have the whole set of babies, but that green haired Minty and some of the other, rarer ones are not within the realm of possibility for me right now.

So, since I don't know a lot about collecting Greeks besides their symbols bleed, and since I am procrastinating studying geometry for the GRE (seriously though, do you know how long it's been since I've had to care about geometry?  :what: ) tell me about Greek baby ponies for beginners. PC, what to look for, common problems, what to avoid... I appreciate any tips you can give me.

MLP Nirvana / My pony drought is over!
« on: November 04, 2015, 09:24:47 PM »
I took a break from buying for a while between moving, having other bills, and trying to and refocus the goals of my collection. But lately I've been taking steps in reorganizing my new office so I can actually have display shelves, and organizing all the ponies and pony-related items that are still being stored at my parents' house. So what did I treat myself to as a reward?

Ponies, of course! I won these two girls on Ebay from separate sellers and they both arrived on the same day. Excuse the amateur photo, I don't have a good place set up in the new condo yet to do pics. And their bodies do need some cleaning, but they both have great hair so I'm going to proceed carefully and gently. Baby Moondancer has maybe just a touch of tail rust on the underside.

I'm also looking for the other two girls in this set, FT Baby Cotton Candy and FT Baby Butterscotch, in good shape, if anyone is selling.

Pony Corral / Collecting Twinkle Eyes for Beginners?
« on: March 12, 2015, 06:02:11 PM »
Not that I am a beginning pony collector, but I have only recently decided that I do want to collect the Twinkle Eye G1's. I have none of them so far. Looking back to when I started my adult collecting, if I had known more about certain ponies and collecting G1's in general, I might have avoided overpaying for some of my earlier acquisitions, or been able to get certain other ponies in better condition.

So I'm looking for tips about the Twinkle Eye set. Things I already know are:

- Mimic is the most expensive, expect to pay at least $100 for a good one.
- Party Time is hard to find without regrind.

And while I would love love LOVE some retail therapy right now, I just had more back surgery last week so I need to sort out my medical bills and make sure I can return to work as planned before I buy any ponies. I will update my want list and bump it on the appropriate forum when actively ready to buy.

Off Topic / I'm back.
« on: September 17, 2014, 09:52:28 PM »
I haven't really kept up with G4 brushables (though it seems to me there's been precious few :brow: ) but tonight, for obvious reasons, I bought Nurse Redheart at Walgreens. It got me thinking about how much I miss ponies, and how much I miss being here. This is always the friendliest bunch, and compared to other message boards, I'm never hesitate to post for fear I'll be ripped apart because I'm not witty or cool. It's been a while, but I have been reading topics here and there. I was going through some dark times a while back and I got lots of good support here, so I figure I owe it to anyone who cares to give a happier update:

  :happy:___________________________Pony RN's Happy Updates_____________________________ :frolic:

I finally sold my house in the suburbs, which was not only the last vestige of my failed marriage, but also costing me too much money to manage. The closing was one of the most stressful things I've ever been through in my life, much wine was consumed, threats were made, and I almost walked on ~$1800, but in the end, IT'S DONE! I'm free of that house, that town, and symbolically, every failed promise my ex made. The remaining animals and I are settling into a little townhouse in a trendy area of town, and it's good to be back. I'm exploring the nightlife, reminiscing about when I lived in this area "back in the day" and decorating my place the way I want it, finally! (Chalk paint tips, anyone?) The dog is adjusting to not having a yard and having to go potty on a leash every time, and I'm adjusting to sharing space with neighbors and assigned parking, but the plus far outweighs the minus.

I lost a lot of weight. About 50lbs, doing Weight Watchers, which I had done once before but gained it all back and then some. I thought my ex was joking at first when he said "I'm going to fatten you up so you don't get away," but now I'm not so sure. Looking back on it, while he estranged me from all my friends and even tried with my family, he was more than happy to stop cooking so we ate out every night, and buy me pints of Ben and Jerry's two at a time "because I know you love it baby." Not saying I'm not ultimately responsible, but he was super manipulative. Anyway, I'm learning to cook, thinking about what I'm eating, and feeling so good about myself. I went from a US 14/16, L/XL, 36DDD to a 6-10, M/L, 34DD/36D. All has been diet so far, but I'm carefully starting to exercise again, too.

I'm wearing make-up, getting my hair and nails done, and buying new clothes. In the depths of my despair with my ex, I hadn't had my hair done since the wedding and I hardly ever put on make-up, because we never went anywhere and he was already "joking-not-joking" about me cheating while I was at work, so why encourage it? In the process, I lost a huge part of myself and what makes me feel good. I realized that I spent more effort styling my ponies than myself but at the time, lacked the strength to fix it. It's good to look in the mirror and feel pretty and put together again.

I'm back working nights. I worked nights for 6+ years before my back took me away from the bedside, and I thought that maybe an 8-5, M-F might be a good change. Wrong! It's so hard to get anything done. It was hard to leave for a doctor's appointment, and my mom was having to help me do things that didn't require my physical presence, like appointments for the animals or repairs at the house. Non-bedside nursing jobs at night are rare, but my department keeps one person stationed out of the emergency department of our main campus overnight, so I applied for the transfer and was accepted. I'm now working every Fri, Sat, Sun night from 6:30pm-7:00am, and the move also took me out of the little suburban hospital near my old house and moved me to a larger one near my new place. It's tough giving up every weekend, but I get so much done during the week and never have to worry about missing work for an appointment.

I'm cautiously getting back into the dating world with OK Cupid. I don't think I want to get married again, at least not anytime soon, but I would like to find someone to go out with and maybe eventually travel. Nothing to serious, I just want to have some fun.

I just wanted to write this to update anyone who had been wondering where I was, say thanks to those that offered kind words and gestures of support along the way, and let anyone out there who may be going through something similar to what I went through know, IT GETS BETTER!!!  :icon clap:

Most of the stuff in my office is still in boxes, and my dad is going to come next week and at least help me move them around (my back is one thing that has not gotten better, and never will). After that, I am so excited to buy some shelves and reorganize and display my pony, FSF, and Uglydoll/plushie collection. On one more positive note, I did finally find my last set-completing plushie dog on ebay that I've been after for 25 years  :accomplished:

I'll be posting more now that things are settling down for me. I missed you guys.

Off Topic / Advice on downsizing my plushies?
« on: November 17, 2013, 10:05:05 AM »
Mods, if this is not the correct forum please let me know where to move it.

I have a lot (probably couple of hundred) stuffed animals and I need to downsize. I have always been a buyer and not a seller. I know I don't want to deal with e-bay as a seller after all of the headaches I've read from sellers on here. I am not looking to turn a huge profit, but I would like for them to go to good homes if possible. I know that most places that take toy donations don't accept plush because it cannot be sterilized. I also work 40+ hours a week and keep up a household including 3 real live animals by myself. I don't want to take a lot of time doing sales and trades, and I certainly can't be back and forth to the post office several times a week. i.e., I'm not looking to start a side business as a seller and I really don't have a lot of time to be bothered. I just need them gone.

I am looking to get rid of several dozen pound puppies, and Gund and Ty plushies. All of them used/ gently used, no tags. Some I bought new and have had for several years, others came from ebay sellers. Most have been boxed in my spare room since my failed attempt to sell my house last year. I would like to try to sell my house again next year and when I do, I will be going some place much smaller. I just cannot keep a collection of several hundred plushies and 800 ponies. My goal is to organize all my ponies on shelves, and the plushies that I am keeping into stuffed animal hammocks. But the plushies just take up so much room!!

So if anyone has any advice for rehoming stuffed animals, I'd love to hear it. I'd really hate to throw them away, even though I can't give all several hundred of them the love they deserve :(

MLP Nirvana / My latest Nirvana restoration. Argie Blue/White Snuzzle!
« on: September 28, 2013, 04:33:27 PM »
First of all, I know I paid too much for her. I know. But she was my grail for a long time, and I was so happy to come across one that still had all her hair, eyes, and symbols. She has had a haircut, but I think it's kind of cute.

This is after several rounds of scrubbing with a toothbrush and dish soap, as well as a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I did not try to sun fade her, I'm ok with her being a little yellowed so it wasn't worth the risk to me. Her hair was frizzy so after washing it, I soaked it in conditioner over night and took a flat iron to it.

I've named her Nelly, after another Nirvana Snuzzle, because I thought it was fitting, and because my yellow and orange Argie Snuzzle (a rehair when I bought her, but still adored) is Cupid :)

Pics of the my whole Snuzzle/Peachy army will be coming after I fix the tail rust on my recently acquired Italian Polly!

Pony Corral / Ideas for Organizing a Big Collection
« on: September 23, 2013, 06:04:13 PM »
The state of my pony collection is really depressing me. I have a huge, empty room (that was supposed to be a nursery, that is also depressing) and many of my ponies are still in cases from when I unsuccessfully tried to sell my house last year. I am going to try again to sell it in the future and hopefully move somewhere smaller, so I would like to have all of my ponies nicely organized so that before and after I move, they can be proudly displayed and also I can find who I'm looking for.

My collection is pretty large, 800+. Here is the breakdown:

-almost half are G1 with a lot of those being babies/newborns
-the next largest group are G3's
-about 100 G2's
-about 50 G4's

I also have 30 Fashion Star Fillies and 12 Jem dolls that I would like to include in the display. When I had my G1's up before, I displayed by pose so I could fit the most together, and I think I would do this again with the G1's and maybe the G3's. I could use two walls in the room to do it, so I'm thinking some sort of large shelf. I love the shelf risers that SailorEarth posted here, and I plan on making a lot of those to maximize my shelf space. Also, since I have such a large collection with some valuable ponies, I am willing to spend some money if it means displaying them right and getting it all done at once. I have a bad back, drive a Honda Civic, and live by myself, so hunting garage sales and Craigslist and carrying it back is out of the question.

I have seen several people use the Ikea "Billy" shelf and it looks pretty well suited for what I have in mind. Someone who has this shelf, what do you think of it? Would one or two, with some foam risers, do the job for me?

Other ideas??

Thanks in advance.

MLP Nirvana / Tell me about Italian Polly? How rare is she? PC?

I'm thinking about adding Italian Polly to my wish list. How hard is she to find, and what should I expect to pay for her in reasonable condition?

MLP Nirvana / Argie Brag!
« on: April 13, 2013, 02:08:41 PM »
I realized that I have been so busy with work and stuff that I have not posted my two newest Nirvanas!

The first is this girl, Argie Sweet Stuff! I love her because I am not a fan of Twinkle Eye ponies, so I don't have her China/HK counterpart. She is pretty rough so I do plan on cleaning her up and rehairing her, and will post pics when she's done. Anyone have any tips on rehairing an Argie to give her that slanted mane? I have a rehaired Argie Peachy/Snuzzle that I bought on e-bay done by someone named Red Roses that turned out beautifully and looks like an Argie-style mane, so I'm going for the same with this girl.

Pony Corral / Plush green dragon?
« on: January 19, 2013, 05:38:16 PM »
Sorry, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I did an arena search for "plush dragon," and also searched hathorcat's "Out Now and Coming Soon" thread and could not find it.

I was searching on e-bay for princess dragons (who knows why? not like I can afford them right now) and several sellers had multiples of this plush green dragon that has eight legs and red in its eyeballs, with some squigglies sewn into it. It is labeled as an FiM/MLP item.

I've not seen every episode of FiM, but I don't remember this character. Is this plush legit, and if so, who is it?
