Title: The Grail Swap- All done! Thank you!

Welcome all to the official Grail Swap! Please be sure to read all the rules pony friends. Newbies are welcome to join! This is going to be a nice, long swap, so you will be able to enjoy your holidays without getting behind. ^.^ Don't forget to look for the secret word!

Dates:
Sign ups: CLOSED
Partners assigned before or on: Sent! ^.^
First check in: December 1st
Second check in (Photo check): January 2nd
Final Check in, progress pics : January 31st
Ship date: February 28th

Please remember to always check your organizer's feedback before joining a swap.

Rules:
1. You must have 5 positive arena feedback.
2. You must have been an arena member for at least 6 months before sign ups are over.
3. I will do my best to match the swap partners by skill. This is not officially a skill based swap, I just want to be sure we are evenly matched up. Newbies welcome. :)
4. Ship on time! I realize real life issues come up sometimes. If this happens, I want to know about it as soon as you realize you will be late.
5. No shipping early! I will be withholding addresses until shipping time to prevent this. The exception will be after final check in and your partner is ready to ship as well. I don't want anyone disappointed in this swap and with so many people going MIA lately, it's best for everyone to hold off until we are sure their partners haven't disappeared.
6. Be prepared with progress pics at progress date.
7. Send me pictures of your completed custom before you ship. I want to know your custom is complete before it goes out.
8. Let me know right away when you ship your custom and when you receive one.
9. Do not let anyone know who your partner is. It is secret.
10. This swap includes all generations of ponies (G1, G2, G3, G3.5, and G4), if there are any of these you do not like, include that in your form. Do not use any fakies unless your partner requests it.
11. You must be in no more than 2 other swaps (total of 3).
12. PM the sign up form to me (LadySatine) by the sign up deadline.
13. You must check in with pictures for the final check in 1 week before shipping.
14. KEEP YOUR SHIPPING RECEIPTS! You need to be able to produce proof of shipping when asked. You need to hold onto your receipt until your partner confirms that they have received their pony. I also highly recommend delivery confirmation for those not shipping internationally.

To ensure that you have read all the rules, please use the word “foxy” in your subject line. If you do not use the secret word, your form will be invalid.

Of course it does! :D A grail is any pony that you really want, it doesn't matter how common it is, or what country it's from. You could say that Pinkie Pie is your grail, and that would be okay. XD

Dear gawd, if I ever see the day that Pinkie Pie is someone's grail I think I will have to jump off a bridge...LOL...I guess it could happen though, there could be some zombie apocalypse where only Pinkie Pies taste delicious and they all disappear...LOL

Oh and 'grail' doesn't specifically mean 'nirvana' does it - it can also mean that hard-to-find-common-ish-in-the-day-G1-pony too (like Mimic for example - even if she wasn't so 'common' in the 80's) ... doesn't it..? :lookround:

alterations/twists to my customs: the prototypes i listed id kinda like to get as close as possible just cause theyre nifty, the others i dont mind small twists to them if you want. =]

preferred colors: i prefer cooler tones, blues, purples, light pinks sometimes. i like a lot of colors tho, as long as they fit =]

I feel the same way. I think a TE variant, or one with a minor change like an added cheek mark to match the symbol, or freckles that the original didn't have, or an alternate pose would be nice, but I would like it pretty close to the original. I think for some of us, the reason why a grail is a grail is because it has the perfect combination of haircolor/body color/symbols/pose to appeal to our personal tastes, if that makes sense :) .

I would prefer any of the Prototypes to be close to the add except G3 Winter Cute Curtsey- as far as I know we only have one sort of hard to see add photo of her- so feel free to be creative with filling in the blanks :D

Just a quick question, to get the discussion started: What makes a particular pony a grail for you? Obviously they are often more expensive/HTF; I know for me particular color combinations and poses are appealing. I like a lot of Euro release ponies because they were a little more adventurous in colors and themes than were some of the US ponies.

However, I've always loved nirvana ponies, and I always wanted to collect them, so I just looked up nirvanas and listed ones that I liked. XD I based my choices entirely on color scheme.

For example, if I hadn't already made myself one I would have put Nightlight(Nachtlicht) on my list.

My list consists of ones I also think would look GREAT in alternate poses. One of the number ones on my list is the Surprise Twins mommy. I think she'd look better as a regular pony anyway, since her mechanism in the real one, makes her look a lil bulky...

The others are Nirvana variants, but really I would collect variants of some ponies that don't even exist, i.e. the same pony but with a different colour scheme or in a different pose. I am not sure whether I'd normally class that kind of thing as a grail, but otherwise one of my big grails is MIB Rosette, and that wouldn't work at all for this challenge! So I'm working on grails that are ponies who don't exist (except in my mind) mostly. Haha.

The color combos, the poses, ~~the unicorns because I am kinda biased...XD;~~ the over all look of them...everything appeals to me about the ones I chose. All the Greeks are gorgeous, to me. ^^ I actually saw someone with a Greek Moon Dancer at the Pony Fair this year and I keep seeing her whenever I think of ones I would possibly like to own one day. for their features im not 100% sure, but im guessing its the triple starry antennae and i think it looks kinda like a marbled effect, im guessing either a seethru glittery or pearly effect... if Hasbro was smart theyd have gone with a seethru glittery glo in the dark to bring out the spacey theme. =]

i remember someone showin pics of customs theyd done of these (they were so awesome) im wanting to say with flutter or SHS bodies. =] but i could be mistaken.

That is my biggest complaint as well! XD When I first saw him I was all, "What...you aren't Desmond! Des is pudgy-ish!" And yeah I figured that out the first time I saw a dog and I literally squeed when I could pet them. Now I go around petting various animals. ^.^ How far in it are you? Cause I wanna know if I was the only one who was floored by the end of Sequence 3...lol.

I'm sorry guys! Everything is okay. I've been sick this past week and I have lost a lot of sleep actually, so I've been too tired to do anything. Please forgive me! I will try to get partners out today.

hairstyles: i lack most girlie skills when it comes to hairstyles, but i have a soft spot for oriental things, from the beasties to kimonos to the hairstyle. basically just about anything on a pony is fine, tho i prefer reasonable- longish hair on it, not crazy long (like half a hank on a baby etc)

eta) i agree that straight hair or simple leg/neckwraps are fine too, that way in case i ever have to brush it i wont ruin any more delicate do's... im torn haha plain or fancy, whatever you feel like doing.

Hairstyles: I like to play with the hair a bit. Maybe not on customs, but I like loose curls, braids, some buns, but not complete updos. I have a few customs that have straight hair and I love them as much as I love my others that have curly hair. :lovey: But I do love accessories such as feathers and beads. Really, I am easy! XD I like everything as long as there is hair to play with.

Therefore, they are in "nirvana" and to have them means you have a little chunk of nirvana. XD;; My description is probably really odd, but I hope that helps a little? And the nirvana are nearly all exclusive to countries. Like...there was one pony in America that is different color/pose/variation in say Venezuela or Greece. So they are harder to find than the regular version in the US/Canada.

Perfect Matched Replica: I really like the colors of the ones I chose. That's really my biggest want for my grails. :) Their color combos and the designs. So, as long as I can still tell what pony it is, I don't have to have a replica. I like interpretations, gender bending, generation bending, ect. :D If my partner wants to do a replica, I would love it! If my partner wants to do something different, I would love it too! I just really want the original colors to be on the pony, even if there are other colors added or artistic changes.

As for how close to the original I'd like my pony... it depends on the grail! I think all the ones I mentioned in my original list I don't mind if the poses or even the gens are changed, babies could be done as adults etc. But I did see that prototype of The Birthday Pony that someone posted earlier in this thread, and if she was made for me then I'd want her exactly as she was. Since it's a different pose and all.

On the pony from my list who is not a prototype and the G3- I've already said you can have creative freedom- change anything you like about them :)

allright for my pony if you choose one of my grails and keep it a G1 I want as close to original as possible. but if you do a diffrent gen I don't mind a bit of play. I am in love with Bowtie!!! so her in diffrent colors and gens is also really good or a G1 baby. for G1 poses I would like her keept at a shypose or CP just to go with my collection.

I hope I don't sound too picky...I feel like I come across that way sometimes :lol:

yeah im browsing thru it now while waiting for my ride but cant really tell how the eyes are supposed to look, can see small differences but no good closeups. i know brazils and greeks seem to have darker/chunky eyes but not sure if thats just from bleeding. i may just end up doing standard hasbro eyes to play it safe.

if you want I can post a few pics! I have a brazil and a greek pony, and it's ture the black parts on the eyes are thickers not bleeding. just let me know!

fizzy varient (already have a baby and plans on making a BnG one, so maybe a SS or just an alternate rehair- whatever tickles your fancy)

Sometimes when that happens it's best to walk away for a bit. I've been painting for years and sometimes my hands shake too much for me to do details, so I leave it alone for a few hours and come back. :)

I've done nothing with mine yet. I don't even know what pony I'm doing. >_< I've been preoccupied though lol

Yeah I'm very poor until I get paid at the end of the month. And then of course December is a hilariously expensive month! Anyway, I'll only be making one pony, I'm sure it'll be fine :)

Also, to answer questions I'm not bothered about blush and I like ponies with long hair!

Update: Started painting my bait and was coming along good too, until the new paintbrush I was using bled dye all over my pony (I did have to begin on her back) - I washed the dye off but the paint job was ruined, so I stripped her down and am starting again... bloody paintbrush is still bleeding dye, so that was money wasted! >_<

Subject change: Do we need photos for this update, or is it just a report on what we're up to please?

@Eluluu: I've noticed my paint crack around the pony's ear when I re-hair them and have had to touch the paint up afterwards ... but for one I'm [still] working on I've used a different varnish and it's not cracking at all! :D Do you use Mod Podge by chance? That was what I was using for some babies I painted and the paint cracked around their ears - the one I'm rehairing at the moment I used a gloss finish (Liquitex gloss) and when the pony's head bends during the tool insertion, the paint/varnish bends too. Just a thought, it might not be your finger-hooking habit after all ... :huh:

on a side note, suggestions anyone for a glue to seal the neck with? ive been using my tacky craft glue (same as i use for rooting hair) and whenever i do neckwraps it likes to snag the hair til it dries. no big deal im just getting sick of digging the hair out when i unwrap it.

ill prolly send you pics in a day or two LS just so i dont forget to later =P

Pony Update: Have finished FBR and used my new matte sealer on her .. and discovered it is more of a satin sheen than matte :( but have finished symbol design/placement and need to paint them... and go hunting for some actual 'matte sealer' :unsure:

Then of course it's sealer, eye paint and re-hairing and she'll be done! :bigups: Providing all goes well and I don't stuff something up! :P

I'll put the image up on the computer screen the size I need, then reverse the image and trace off of that. Then when I take it down and write over it I can see it through the backside to "write" the symbol onto the pony = you are correct the only potential issue is symbol placement, so I try to cut it out like a sticker first so I can pretty much know the image is in the center.

I think I read that method from Ren-Ren, but it might have been thatg33kgirl (sorry fuzzy memory) and I've just found it really helps me = well that and if you are lucky enough to have a pony to copy from in some cases (this swap that was a challenge)

can't wait to see everyones nirvanas :-) yay for affordable repros :-)

Hmmm. Chocolate is good, unless it has cinnamon in it. Cadbury eggs are awesome, since, you know, 'tis the season (Easter Sunday is in March this year! What's up with that? :blink: ). Lemon candies are nice too, and I'm always willing to try new things, provided they're caffiene free (you'd think that wouldn't be an issue with candy...). I can always use hair, of course; who can't? Beadworking supplies come in handy - I typically use size 11 Japanese, and am getting into using delicas. Also, I collect plush frogs. :frog: :lol:

Cutie marks appear to be done; I'm waiting for the paint to finish setting before I do any touch-up work on them. :)

I still love this custom as she is, and hope my partner does as well just dealing with it's too late to turn back now so I think I will take ref pics and write up a letter and mail out as planned on Monday with some goodies :-)

Mine's awesome. Lol! Mine has problems too, like the cracking of the paint when I rehaired...so it's a tiny bit messy there, but the rest of it is awesome. :P

Mine's been packed in a box all weekend. I guess it's the little "extras" that I'm most worried about actually...but you guys will just have to wait to see. ;) *wonders if anyone else made this one*

My first custom didn't turn out the way I'd hoped (the paint started cracking after everything was done!), so I had to touch her up and made a second one to go with her.

it was me! and the note may be stuck to the box, I slipped it in right at the last minute cause I almost forgot. I am glad you like her!

it was me! and the note may be stuck to the box, I slipped it in right at the last minute cause I almost forgot. I am glad you like her!

Oh thank you so much! I loved the extras too, those were hair colours I don't have & pretty ribbons! I will have a hunt through the box for the note, I was a bit excited opening things yesterday.

I recognized the pony colors as soon as I opened the box, and was kind of in a daze unpacking the rest of the box. I just love her to bits--French blue Windy! The colors and the symbol are perfect! She is one of my all-time favorite grails since I first saw one on French ebay.... The pony and all of the extras are absolutely wonderful! Thank you for a wonderful box!
