Here's a weird question: Ponies in the dishwasher?
« on: June 05, 2015, 04:20:58 PM »
Has anyone ever tried putting a pony in the dishwasher to see what would happen? Like, would a really dirty pony get clean; would the symbol get washed off, etc.? I personally haven't tried this, but I was standing at the kitchen sink washing some ponies the other day and I glanced at the dishwasher... and just thought "What if?"

I don't know if I have any baity enough ponies to try this with, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has already given it a try.  :lookround:

gosh i hope not :( i would find that to be the most risky (and lazy) way to clean a pony, even if it were a bait as it might leave the plastic or vinyl porous, iv found any utensil with a plastic or latex or vinyl handles have deteriorated from dishwasher use. but hey im interested to know if someone has dared to

I've put a bait into the dishwasher to try and clean/rinse off dye residue. But it was a G3 pony and she did survive XD

Well the problem there would be, if the neck where sealed water would get traped inside the body causeing mold.

Two the heat favctor would scare me..melted ponies. Melted glue from the hair.

The other would be the dish soap.

The paint on the pony.

Grate idea if it worn't for thoese factors. And you could alwase try a bait and let us know for sure! I think it would be intresting to know.

I was thinking that if I were going to try this I would definitely remove the head first. The heat was one of my primary concerns, but plastic utensils and whatnot have never melted in my dishwasher (I put plastic stuff that I am going to recycle in the top rack so it's really clean before it heads to the recycler).

Hmm... I'm going to have to dig around and see if I have a pony I could try this with. I usually don't have many baits, though. I have some flutter ponies that are in really bad condition, but they're a whole different story!

OK, BTDT.  With G1 and G3 after the heads are removed.  I tend to loosely braid the mane and tail to keep them from tangling. Top rack of course.  Thus far I have not had any issues with paint coming off, but it is good with pin dot.  :)

Very cool! Do you have temp. settings on your dishwasher or anything like that? My current dishwasher only has a "normal" setting, but I know some dishwashers have different temperatures and whatnot.

Yep, I braid hair and take heads off and put them in the top rack.  No glitter or mechanisms or fancy symbols/hair/tinsel though!

That was a complete accident. I had no idea she was in the laundry basket at the time. Fortunately she was ok

I'd be concerned about potential long term effects.  Dishwashing soap is quite harsh and abrasive, not to mention a cocktail of chemicals. Would recommend against dishwashing any ponies of worth.

Okay... this is happening. Tonight!

Here are my victims:

We'll see how this goes.

As for chemicals: I'm not too worried about that. I use natural dish soap that probably contains far fewer chemicals than any type of shampoo or conditioner that many people use to clean their ponies.

I'd be most worried about the harshness of the dishwasher soap too.
