Weather Wallop

Hope those hit by the bad weather this week are okay. They've had up to softball-size hail in places and Louisville, KY has been hit especially hard with not only severe storms but 7 inches of rain.

*siiiiigh* I REALLY wish i could have some bad weather that ISNT an ice storm. Im really disappointed in Texas and I need to vent a little xD

First and foremost I hope everyone is ok who got hit by the weather last night! I know most people hate severe weather like that. I hope everyones car isnt dented from the hail!

Ya know whats funny is I STILL have yet to see bad weather here in DFW. As the wife of a meteorologist in training ive been looking forward to a real Texas storm. I love severe weather. All the years ive lived in Texas we seriously get ice storms in my area more than anything I have noticed. It got hot my second year here, but it has always been in the 70's to 90's in summer most of the time. Never any good thunderstorms! Like today... we were apparently in a tornado watch and thunderstorm warning but it was sunny and dry. ALL day. There were some clouds of to the distance out northeast.Texas is lame. :( Move here to Frisco or Mckinney if you hate bad weather because it DOESNT happen here! It sprinkles and ices here. I think the metropolis city air is messin' with the weather but hubby says me moving here jynxed everything.

I know I sound crazy, but my area's buildings are built to withstand bad weather so im not worried too much about my ponies or animals unless its an EF4 or above LOL. Plus, Id love to see a tornado way out in the country away from people out in a feild like in storm chasers. My husband is studying meteorology and likes to watch severe weather from a safe distance. I too, have become fascinated! Ive actually been in far more tornadoes when i lived up in Indiana than here in Texas.

I'm envious. A few weeks into Spring and the majority of it has been hot (not nice and cool, like it's supposed to be) and we've already had a few severe thunderstorm outbreaks.

I've had enough of this... Even if only one Tornado Warning has been anywhere near close... I just hate, hate, hate this time of the year. I can't take it anymore. Wish I was in a position in my life where I could move away from this awful weather.

I do hope everyone else is ok!

We've gotten some really bad thunderstorms here in western PA, but I live in an area that pretty much can't get anything like tornadoes (thank goodness)... although we may get flooding here and there near the rivers.  Stay safe, everyone!

Move here. I PROMISE you NOTHING happens here. Tornado alley here in DFW is seriously a myth I sweeeaaarrr. I promise on my life all we get is ice storms and dry summers. Nothing crazy. ONCE we got hail and it was M&M size. A windstorm blew down a few tree limbs and my crappy mailbox. Its BORING here. No severe weather thunderstorm or tornado related in my area since I moved here. Only ice. I think the weather in my area of Texas is seriously broken. The ONLY time I have heard the sirens is when they test them at noon the first saturday of the month.

Im still sooo mad. The news stations ALWAYS say we will have a thunderstorm on some day and its always sunny or slightly cloudy no matter what. If we get 'severe thunderstorms' we are lucky if it even sprinkles. We are supposed to have thunderstorms on Sunday but HA. HAHAHA.

I don't think I could stand to live in Texas. It's already far too warm where I live, and where you live is even further South than where I live. D: I'd much prefer to go far up Northeast.

You should really count your blessings. Ice storms are insubstantial. We had a really bad one back in December of 2007. I can say that is also the worst natural disaster I've ever experienced here... It knocked out power, and tree branches/falling trees almost crushed both of our cars at the time.

But honestly... I could stand to pick up a few branches, for it landed me a good grade in College Algebra I wouldn't have gotten if the ice storm hadn't happened and canceled my finals.  ^_^

BUT that's off-topic. I wouldn't trust where you live anymore than where I live. If you haven't had a close-call, you've been very lucky. This is actually the first year I've seen an active severe thunderstorm pattern in years. Things change.

And yes, the weather in the center of the country is best considered 'broken'. It has been like that for several years now. I've never seen the weather as crazy as it has been in the last decade or so.

Hope those hit by the bad weather this week are okay. They've had up to softball-size hail in places and Louisville, KY has been hit especially hard with not only severe storms but 7 inches of rain.

Wooo, made National news.  I live in Louisville. The weather has been so bad. We've gotten so much rain in the last 2 weeks, and it's supposed to continue next week as well. There's been a lot of flloding. We've had severe storms with crazy thunder and lightning. Last Friday (Good Friday), GE was struck by lightning (from what I heard), and one of the buildings caught on fire and completely burned down. Apparently it's the bulding that has all the supplies and parts. Thankfully though, I don't think anyone was hurt because most employees were off for Good Friday. We've had a couple of tornado warnings here, too. I'm just so sick of the rain and the weather. I know April showers bring May flowers, but come on, this is way more than just spring showers. Lol

Here's an article that was published last Friday talking about the fire. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/04/03/ge-appliance-park-fire/25233399/

Here are some pics of all the smoke that I took myself. I seriously thought at first that I was heading towards a tornado.

^ Some flooding inside the front gate where I work. Had to drive through that to get into the parking lot. This is minor compared to what some areas looked like.

Downtown Louisville had a lot more flooding from being right on the Ohio River.

Here in Southern Ontario, we got a bunch of wind. It damaged our roof. :(  Came home from work, was playing with the dog, and found a piece of shingle on the ground. Thought to myself "that's not good" and walked far enough away from the house to see the roof and sure enough a section has been peeled back, so the plywood is showing. Called my insurance company, and their response was basically "Since you have called us, your policy states that it is now your responsibility to ensure no further damage is done. It is Friday just before closing, you are not the only one in this situation, we won't be able to have anyone out there before Monday" so basically 'sucks to be you'. They expect me to climb up on the roof, in the wind, and find some way to get a tarp to cover the wound and stay there in this wind. Hubby is injured, so they want little 5' tall me who is terrified of ladders to climb up onto the roof carrying cinder blocks to pin down a tarp. I don't even HAVE cinder blocks!  And it is supposed to start raining heavy again late Sunday.

Thanks a lot State Farm. Second time you have proven useless to me. Time to go shopping for a new insurance provider.

So glad I live in the South West.  All we deal with are monsoons.  Some can be bad, but we haven't had any nasty ones for many years.  Just heat and dust mostly.
