Bittersweet Brag
« on: December 31, 2014, 03:18:37 PM »

"This is a lot of My Little Pony toys and accessories.  All were played with regularly and are not necessarily in great shape.  Everything you see pictured is included, as is."

Uh-oh, right?

I've been tracking the status of this box for a week.  It arrived today and...well...my reaction is bittersweet.

All of the ponies, except for Glory & Hippity Hop, are in GREAT condition.  In fact, the wingers are so near mint that I don't think they were ever played with!

The downside...everything smells like mildew...and three ponies are really sticky: Seawinkle, Peachy, & Quackers.  I'm hoping it's not plasticiser breakdown.

The mildew smell has faded, but it hit me like a Mack Truck when I opened the box!  I think Sea Winkle is the culprit.

There was an added surprise in my box!  Lady Lovely Locks accessories!  I finally got the pixie petal ribbon for Silky Pup that I've been hunting for!  (also an extra Silky Pup Collar and a fish brush from one of the Enchanted Island dolls).

I am so excited about the wingers.  When I sold off my G1 collection, I needed money very badly, so my winger collection was the first to go.  Getting three in near mint condition is the perfect way to start the new year!

I think I remember seeing this lot on eBay. I'm so glad a community member won them. Your post makes me want to win more lots for near mint ponies. Congrats!

Yes!  It was an eBay win - I always feel a bit guilty when posting in the brag arena when it's something I got from an online auction.  I assume I'm bidding against other community members :x

I was afraid I wasn't going to win the lot...I set up my eSnipe, but was also trying to win via my phone.  Of course my phone timed out before the end of the auction.  I think it was meant to be, because the exact amount I put as the winning bid (this time it was $XX.81) was the winning bid!  What are the odds that my max bit was only $0.81 above the other person?

Question:  the blue boxes...were they a set for the Read Along Books?  The big box for the books, the small square for the tapes, and the one with the strap for the 45 records?

I've only noticed one other collector with them over the years (JLM, namer of the "Piggy Ponies").

I hope you can get the mildew smell to go away! Not really sure how to fix it, but maybe someone here knows? Great that most of them are at least in great shape otherwise. :)

Thankfully, it's all gone.  I finished washing the herd not too long ago...and I'm not sure WHO it was.  It may be the stable carry case, as it's the only thing that has held on to the smell.

I can vouch that it's probably the carry case.  Mine has a horrid smell to it as well!  :(  Very cheap plastic I think.

At least most of the ponies are in good condition. If you air them out they should be okay.  I think you did really well! It's always nerve racking buying a lot with a description like that :frolic:

Congrats

congatz on the win and that sucks about the mildew smell (I have a strong sense of smell/sensitive nose so I can't even imagine) maybe you can spritz em down with anti mildew stuff and air em out?
Thanks to TheRockinStallion for my Ponysona Artless
