Going by some reactions on EqD so far, there is more love for the pony than the doll, bot not happy about the $50 price tag.

Exactly.  This is the third strike, Hasbro. 

As far as badguy characters go, nightmare moon is cool, this character is so randomly obscure to me. It's the worst thing ever. It's like they're trying to do something cool and unique but end up with something cheap and lame. And I'm sorry if some people like this, it's just not my taste. There is nothing beautiful, inspiring about this. It doesn't make me feel good, it makes me feel depressed.

I too miss the days when we would get a "pretty" exclusive just for the Fair.

I miss pretty ponies too.

if they're gonna give us a mane-iac pony at that price point she should have at least been a brushable FS pony, or have SLH. but sadly hasbro can't do that cuz apparently they only know how to cater to bronies who must be terrified by the thought of having a toy with brushable hair. I mean, god forbid they have something girly in their collection! /sarcasm

I know someone said not to immediately blame bronies for this, but I'm failing to see how they didn't at least have some level of influence on this decision.

I think it's because it's a pony, many are saying not what they were expecting and would have preferred something else and it's too expensive.

To those who do like it, I'm sorry I am so vehement, but honestly that weird tentacle mane is really creeping me out, and I stopped watching G4 a while ago so I have no clue who this is anyway.

ok...so I'm the vast minority but I love Maneiac.  She's a SUPERVILLAIN and she even has HENCHPONIES! and prehensile hair!
so I'm excited!

I'm not saying I feel great about spending $50 on it (though it's certainly not "gimmicky" like the bedazzled dj), but I'm excited to have this figure in my collection, though I'm concerned about the quality
I also hope spike is able to be removed from her hair, making it two distinct figures

In the past, I would have said this was a great SDCC pony, with a *separate* Fair pony. I understand the business side of only doing one pony

I don't care for EqG, but this one at least steps it up a bit. and I'm' glad the doll isn't the Fair exclusive, though for $50 it might have been nice to get pony AND doll

For anyone that did buy the Fair Exclusive pony and don't want it and want to recoup their money back, I'll bite the bullet and get it off you (I only need one, however).  I don't care for it much, but I'll still add one to my collection.  My main gripe is that I do not want to wait in any lines to pick one up.

I'm really disappointed about the exclusive. I know I probably wouldn't be getting it anyway but I think it's a bit naff. Was hoping for a brushable figure. Oh well :/

I also think it is creepy looking.  I have never really been into creepy/scary/dark looking creatures or things.  Although I ironically love snakes, bats, spiders and such.

The thing is, it's not even a well done "tentacle mane". This character had a huge, full mane and tail.

Maybe it would have been better is she had more and thinner hair strands. Not just 4 tentacles sticking from her butt.

Exactly, Karen.  The exclusive used to be something unique, something that would never be released anywhere else that you could be proud to display in your collection as a piece someone carefully designed.  It didn't have to be a pony from an episode or book or whatever other media G3 had, it was just something NICE with some effort put in. 

This thing is just Luna with her wings clipped and tentacle hair.  If they'd bothered to give her clothing and not the paint job we all know is going to be up to Hasbro's usual quality standards, maybe she'd be more special.  And Spike is just a repaint too.

I'm disappointed this year, I was hoping for something "better" not "this" so I'm going to pass. Not worth the $50. They look great though just not my cup of tea.
