I don't know how many of you are aware of the Japanese G4 fanbase, but they make some pretty awesome stuff.

It took a few weeks to finally get them, but I now have FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC and PONY NEXT DOOR, a couple of collaborative pony fancomic anthologies that were originally sold at Comiket 84.
Actually, I know very, very little Japanese, so most of these comics are currently a mystery for me, but they sure are pretty; what initially drew me in was the fact that FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC featured several pictures that I already loved on goodly sized pages with proper color balance, so they look even better than on a computer screen.

I love these kind of books. I remember there was one done like that by people on tumblr that was a tribute to earth ponies called 'Mines Got Rocks In It' that I really wanted.

Indeed.  They have 30 years of comics to read through for inspiration as well!    Check out LadyMoondancer's scans... some of those storylines completely outrank shoujo craziness.  I see nods to previous generations quite often in the FiM comics too.

Oh YEAH!  Hasbro Japan hasn't bought into the idea of MLPs since Takara did not sell so well in the 80's.

With G4, this is the first time that the brand has been sold and marketed IN Japan by a Japanese branch of Hasbro.    Somewhere on Youtube there is a video of the media release and the hosts were just WILDLY excited about ponies.  You would thought they'd never seen a...  oh wait, no they hadn't...
