Anyone else have/collect Dala Horses? Can I see?? ^-^

Strangely enough, I never picked up myself a Dala Häst and i don't really understand why! i love them! i think I could never decide which one I wanted and now i feel silly buying one in Iceland (they do sell them at certain places).

I think I have one or two of these somewhere.

And recently I spotted these dala horse chocolates http://www.dc-chocolates.com/ at a local store!

I used to buy my step-dad those chocolates every time I visited Sweden (before I moved here). He likes the Polkamint ones. They are delicious, but quite expensive as well. I have only found them at City Hall and also a shop at the Arlanda airport. I never did run across them anywhere else, but I'm sure they're around in other stores somewhere.

Thanks Vintergatan! I probably won't be able to get another one for a long time, I'm kind of broke at the moment (trying to find a job here, which is proving much harder than finding one in the US).

I was digging around in my parents garage... and I pulled this little guy out:

It still has part of the original sticker (as in, an original Dala, not a "made in china" sticker)

I think I'm going to try and find it a new home though, as it's been in a box for a long long time! (Thankfully my mother is SO good about storing stuff, it looks almost new!)

Awesome! Yours has a different color scheme than my red ones. As far as value, I really don't know. I'm certainly no expert, but here's what I've learned:

The cost/value of these guys varies greatly and depends on size, age, and quality of the paint job. Yours sounds like it's the traditional size (if it's slightly taller than G1 adults?), which is one of the bigger sizes available now. The quality has everything to do with the artist who painted it and which "factory" it came out of. For example, the highest quality ones I have came from City Hall in Stockholm. They are the same size as yours and cost between $55-75 each. The painting is superb and very exact. All my other horses came from the random tourist shops, where quality is lower, but so is the price so it's kind of ok. The same size there would maybe run $30-ish, if memory serves. I know that really old horses are worth much more, but we're talking like over a hundred years old. Anyway, yours I would venture to guess is in the $30-ish range? It's certainly not the lowest quality I have seen, but it's not the best either. It's a happy medium. Very pretty and if I actually had a job right now I'd offer to buy it! ^-^

Thanks! That was a special run where the artists were allowed to do a different design than the normal saddle and bridle deal. It was actually my very first Dala Horse! My mother-in-law bought it for me. ^-^
