It's kind of an inside joke.  My grandmother was illiterate when it came to English, so she would just buy us cards that looked pretty.  One year, I received a card that said Happy Birthday Uncle with $5 inside.  Now, it's a family joke to give each other totally random cards with $5 in them.  Hehehe!!
