Two sad little rainbow ponies... (update pg. 4)
« on: April 02, 2013, 06:30:31 AM »
I just received these from a friend:

This picture *really* doesn't show how bad they are - in person they look much worse. Starshine is really discoloured and has a lot of big brown/grey patches (no cancer, maybe ingrained dirt?) and Moonstone... Moonstone is one of the saddest ponies I've ever seen. T_T

Her face is discoloured, she has some very small cancer spots on her symbol and is covered in that weird black stuff. I'm not sure what it is but it's inside the plastic and I don't have high hopes of removing it. Would it be OK to paint over it or do you think it would bleed through?

Any ideas? I really want to get them looking nice again, even if it means just using them as custom bait. I can't stand to throw any pony away! >_<

Black permanent marker?

If magic eraser doesn't work, I usually go with 100% acetone to try and remove stains. Painting Moonstone a bright color may take several layers to cover the black stains. Painting her a dark color probably would work better.

Sunfading does wonders with white ponies. It's hard to say what will work until you've done a really good scrubbing, because a lot of times a good bit of elbow grease will have a dramatic effect on dirty ponies.

Thanks!

It looks like it might be marker to me too - I wonder if my friend tried to colour her in black to go with the planet symbol? :P

I gave them a boiling water/oxyclean bath which has brightened Starshine up a little. I'm thinking of trying to sunfade her, if she is the type that burns then I don't think it'll be a big deal because she's in such poor condition anyway that a FBR might be the only way to go.

Have they been buried for the last 30 years?

Powdered laundry detergent also works really well to get dirt out.

I wouldn't paint them... see if you can clean them well, than lots of sun.  Their bodies look great, actually.

Painting Moonstone a bright color may take several layers to cover the black stains.
If that's permanent marker it has the potential to bleed through the paint.
If you use multiple layers of clear seal prior to painting the potential for bleeding is significantly reduced.

Yikes! Poor girls!
Starshine is one of those ponies that burns, so if you are trying to save her, be careful ^^
Such a pit about Moonstone as her symbols looks to be in a good condition!

Now that I'm looking at Moonstone better, it looks like perhaps she had a trash bag melted around her.
