My first restoration re-hairs (Before and After)
« on: February 01, 2013, 08:46:35 AM »
Sorry if this is on the wrong board (I’m new).

This may be dull to veteran pony restoration artists, but I thought I’d post before and after photos of my first restorations to include a re-hair.

TE Bright Eyes was just a white mane stripe. You may recognize the before photos from an Ebay auction as I forgot to take my own before shots. Certain marks and imperfections don't bother me, but TE Bright Eyes also had unremovable pen marks that I color matched and painted over (second photo). I don’t normally like the idea of covering a flaw with paint for several reasons, but she is staying with me (forever....creepy laugh) and this was a mark that annoyed me, so I did it. It is fairly imperceptible. (Side note to all of you gasping in horror over the idea of painting a TE Bright Eyes - I’m a professional oil portrait artist and would not have attempted this otherwise.)

I LOVE Baby Wiggles, and I took a chance on a super cheap Ebay find. She seemed to have some marker stains so who could tell how she might clean up, but hooray for magic eraser. Her body cleaned up well, but some frizz is just not tameable.
Baby Wiggles was a full re-hair. I also lightly touched up her symbol. She still has slight eye rubs, but I’m not inclined to fix them at the moment.

Long story long, I’m happy with my first crack at a more intense restoration.

I was watching that Bright Eyes auction!  You did a beautiful job rehairing her, she's stunning now.  Baby Wiggles look like she'd been electrocuted!!  Poor sweetie.  She looks so much Bette now.

Lovely job rehairing and may I say welcome to the Arena:)

Thanks guys. I was wondering if anyone was watching that auction Michelle53! I though the price was on the high end of reasonable for a TLC, but I was surprised that no one else bid. I hope I didn't overpay, but I love her! :nerdy:

It's true... painting and re-hairing definitely have faster results than sunfading and flat-ironing.  :)  Especially when the hair is truly terrible.  Congrats on cleaning them up.

Congratulations, they look wonderful!!

I have a few that need rehairing but I've been reluctant to try it  :) They look sooo lovely though, I just might have to go for it!
