A night at the movies.
« on: December 27, 2012, 10:11:14 AM »
:) Okay, let's move away from holiday related polls for now.

I know there are a lot of genres, but I tried to pick the basic types. Also, I don't know where "It's A Wonderful Life" type stories would fit up in there. :wonder: Family, I guess.

I suppose I lean most toward family, adventure, and comedy. I wander into romance, science fiction and fantasy now and then. I don't really watch westerns, war movies (just a few now and then).  I cannot handle horror movies and the closest to one I've gotten is "The Birds" by Hitchcock.

My favorite style of mystery/crime movies are Columbo movies. "Just one more question, Ma'am."

This poll could also just apply to stories in general, if you want to cover television shows or books also. :D

I love documentaries and non-fiction books.  I also love fantasy and comedies.  I like art-house cinema but that's more style over genre.

I really enjoy a good comedy (name droppin' time: Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Bill Murray, John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Dave Chappelle, Jim Breuer, Harland Williams...).
Prefer fantasy/sci-fi tv shows, loathe reality tv.
Enjoy a good 'ol western from time to time, and am the first to choose so... lol
Don't mind a good musical or two... total sucker for West Side Story (I hope it is never re-made)...

There isn't a teen movie option- stuff like Never Been Kissed, Scream and Heathers, Jawbreaker. They aren't technically horror because it's more like teenager horror. When I list my fav movies to someone they are like "Oh yea those are teen movies".

My interests run the gamut.

I love old horror and scifi b-movies, especially the "creature features" of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The older and cornier and the stupider the monster, the better. How can you go wrong with titles like The Giant Gila Monster, Frogs, and Attack of the Giant Leeches?

I also enjoy crime dramas. I'm a total sucker for Law and Order (SVU and original,) CSI (Vegas and Miami,) and Criminal Minds.

Also on the awesome list is documentaries. Anything PBS puts out is fab, but really anything about American history (especially Dust Bowl/Depression era) will get my attention. One of my favorite shows right now is Mysteries at the Museum, Travel Channel series where they find artifacts at museums in America and tell the story behind the artifact.

I lovelovelove crime and mystery-movies. My favorites are the brittish crimeshows like Midsummer Murders, a Touch of Frost, the Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Poirot and Miss Marple. Those are more TV-series but each episode is long enough for a movie, lol.
I also like fantasy, adventure and action and I think those often goes hand in hand which suits me perfect. :)

Good idea for a poll! ^.^
It does depend on my mood, but I like best these genres:

Historical (I'm a huge history buff, so this is a shoe-in)
Documentaries/nonfiction (but *not* reality television... shudder...)
Musicals (My Fair Lady is one of my all-time faves, along with The King And I)
Family (which crosses over into musicals with all those Disney musicals )
and
Fantasy (moreso in books as a rule)

I also like science-fiction, mysteries, westerns and comedies, but I really have to be in the right frame of mind for them.  (Except for The Magnificent Seven, which is generally a yes, please! - I'm such a sucker for Steve McQueen and Yul Brynner.)

Wishlist - I'm back on (semi-) active buying again... can't buy everything on my wish list all at once (yay, back-to-school and tuition fees), but I am still looking to plump up my collection a bit more: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html

Horror, but I'm really picky. I also love sci fi, but more Alien than Star Wars (...I have never been a fan of Star Wars :lookround: ) and I love a good action flick!

I'm also a big fan of the psychological thriller types. Love me some Night Shyamalan.
