The only ones that look a little sad to me are the Flutter Ponies. I'm sure I've rambled on about this before, but hey, you asked! They have a look in their eyes that hints that they KNOW something, some truth about the world that they don't tell the other ponies. I assume it has something to do with how they all lost their wings, and I've always loved the flutter ponies because of this. I think as I've gotten older, I've come to consider them My Little Buddhists, knowing about the pain in the world, but loving how beautiful it is, pain and all.
The other ponies, though, remain blissfully ignorant. Do bad things happen? Of course! But it's ok, because, well, because There's Always Another Rainbow!  So they aren't sad, though sometimes they are thoughtful.

Except the "big head" flutter variation, those ones just look stoned.

I think some of them look bashful the shy poses and Salty/Ice Crystal's pose. I think they are cute that way.

I think they look sad, happy or shy depending on what angle they are at. I like to think they are sad before they get cleaned up and then they are happy again.

I can't see the smile on Fifi here for her flocking, but her wide, bright eyes look pretty content to me!
