Pony Corral / Re: Have you ever thrown a pony in the trash?
« on: April 13, 2016, 08:18:20 PM »
Not a pony, but a playset. I got the Perfume Puff Palace sans accessories with a bag of baity, moldy, rusty g1s, and while the ponies could be taken apart and thoroughly cleaned, that playset was so horrendously moldy and I was terrified of what god awful sickness inducing germs could be floating inside the puffer piece that I'd never be able to get out, so I ended up tossing it in a dumpster on my way home.

Sign me up for a pony a day cleanup challenge, I'm trying to clean and photograph my whole collection for documentation and I have an entire box of smoozy restoration project ponies in the mix :drunk:

I prefer g1, almost entirely for toy quality reasons as I'm not much of a pony cartoon person outside of g3. G1 ponies are made much sturdier and with better quality materials, whereas my g4 brushables are proving more difficult to maintain because they're fading/deteriorating so quickly and have rougher hair.

Though I understand that's a case of them both being products of their time, as regulations on toy safety and the mindsets of companies and consumers alike have changed a lot in 30 years. I think it's quite likely that the growing list of materials disallowed in children's toys these days has affected how stable they can make the plastic/synthetic hair, and I notice with many things that the 80s and 90s had more of a "built to last" mentality, with today's market being much more "cheap and easily replaceable" oriented. I find it particularly noticeable with computers, and well, ponies.  :P

Pony Corral / Re: Friends/Family who support collecting?
« on: March 25, 2016, 02:08:18 PM »
My mum is great about my collecting. She still surprises me with happy meals if I mention McD's has mlp, and my other main hobby is cosplay, so her take on my interests is very much "you could've gotten mixed up in far worse things than collecting toy horses and dressing up like cartoons"  :P

My friends and I have had some pretty, er, awful run ins with a particularly hateful local brony group, so they like to joke that my collecting habit is just me building an army to stage a takeover of that rude group someday.  :silly:

By the time 2004 rolled around I'd already found out about pony collectors on the internet, only a handful more ponies made it in after these photos before I started calling myself a collector!  :silly:

Pony Corral / Re: Storing Ponies in Cardboard Boxes
« on: March 14, 2016, 06:43:53 PM »
Cardboard boxes should be perfectly ok for storing ponies, I've had a bunch of mine in a cardboard box for a while now with no issues. But I'd recommend using bags or plain white tissue to keep ponies' dyes coming into direct contact with eachother like in any type of box, and be sure to wrap the box in a plastic bag if you end up having to transport them in the cardboard, in case of troublesome weather. ^.^

Pony Corral / Re: Your favorite G2's
« on: March 13, 2016, 02:22:31 PM »
I only have a handful of g2s, but these girls are my personal favourites! A couple years ago I received a large lot of ponies from a friend who was downsizing and it included some mip g2s, and unfortunately, they obtained a fair amount of water damage in transit and had to be decarded because I feared they would mould or rust, but on the bright side, they really feel like my very own g2 ponies now despite being from before my time as a pony person!

Pony Corral / Re: New McD ponies in February
« on: February 25, 2016, 04:49:31 AM »
Went for lunch with my mum today, we both got Fluttershys in our happy meals. Does anyone happen to know what number Coco is? The McDs here says they have to go in order and they're only on #3 right now :P

Never :9 my "playing ponies" transitioned into collecting so smoothly over the last couple years of g3 that I honestly just can't remember a clear line between the two reasons for buying them. And I still play with them sometimes still at 20 years old.

Pony Corral / Re: Do g3.5 go back together?!
« on: February 20, 2016, 07:38:25 PM »
I believe g3.5s have the same peg system keeping them together as g4s, which should pop right back together as long as it isn't broken. Which I believe is unlikely, as g3.5s seem to be made rather sturdily. :)

Pony Corral / Scented pony perfume ingredients?
« on: February 20, 2016, 12:03:25 AM »
I have the sunny scent pony set from 2005, but it's been a while since I last sorted through some of my g3 ponies, and I've developed a lavender allergy in the recently, making me a little nervous about handling Lavender Lake and Tropical Surprise who were advertised as "floral scented". Does anyone happen to know if the perfume ingredients were ever listed on these ponies?

Pony Corral / Re: Moving...What is the best way to pack away my collection?
« on: February 19, 2016, 11:52:38 PM »
When I moved a few years ago, I packed my ponies in a large plastic tote, padding/separating them with tissue/paper towel/toilet paper. If you have any ponies with hair colours known to bleed like chartreuse, I'd recommend wrapping their hair specifically in extra tissue. I placed scented ponies in (not-quite-sealed to prevent trapping moisture) ziploc bags to prevent their perfumes from mixing. :)

Pony Corral / Re: How do you ''display'' your ponies? ♥
« on: February 17, 2016, 10:40:31 AM »
I have one large bookshelf for my ponies ^.^
I have 7 shelves, and my childhood herd stays together, and they take up almost two shelves. Then the rest are sorted by generation. My other g1s and g3s take about a shelf each, and my g2s and g4s share a shelf since I have the fewest of those. Then, they're sorted by pose/size in order to make the most of the limited space. The last shelf is a combination of some straggler ponies and my Jojo's Bizarre Adventure figures (who I've set up to look like they're riding the ponies)
