Customs / Hair for Beginners?

I've never made a custom before, so I apologize if this question is old hat.

I've got some young friends who are into G4. I'm going to throw a customizing party for them. I'm assuming the ponies will probably turn out pretty terribly, so I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on materials.

I know dollyhair.com is the most popular. But pricing it out, is it safe to assume it'd cost about $5 per pony? Is there a source for hair that's a bit cheaper, but maybe not the best quality?

Had to share this! I found these PJs at H&M. I'm just now introducing my toddler to MLP, because I enjoyed them so much. As soon as she saw them she was yelling "pony! pony!" They have size 1mo through 2yrs. However, their baby clothes run very large. I would say the 18-24mo could fit a 3 or 4 year old.

One has Lickety Split and Starshine. The other has smaller Lickety Splity, Starshine, and Peachy.

I would love to find some vintage sylvanians! Never seen any "in the wild though".... :/

Last week I found these freaky giant talking Sylvanian Families. But they were a little too weird for me, so I didn't pick them up. Now I kind of regret it because I feel like somebody must want them.

Congrats! Bonnie Bonnets is a tough one to find. And it looks like her hair is amazing!

As for Sparkler... You're going to want to very carefully remove her head with a blade along the neckline to break the bond of the glue (but not too far, or you'll cut right through the plug shape that keeps the head on). Then you'll want to pull the tail out, replace the washer. I wash the tail's base with soft scrub w/bleach to get the rust out. Sounds like she'll be full of mold, so you'll want to scrub out her body with the soft scrub (toothbrush), too!
