Customs / Starlight Gloomers G4 Custom
« on: July 08, 2017, 07:38:01 PM »
Hello hello!  I made this little G4 custom for my close friend's 4 year old daughter.  She named the pony, hence the funny name...she actually gave it her last name as well, but I didn't want to post that.  :P

I asked Charlotte what she loved and she said pink, purple, night (hence the GITD hair), and her three cats.  I took those things and Starlight Gloomers was born.

She was made with a Rarity bait and was re-haired in Glow in the Dark hair from MLC, tinsel from RDUS, and DH Sakura and Twilight.  The eyes of the cats were painted with GITD paint accents as well.  Everything else was painted with Vallejo acrylics and sealed with Testors dullcote (except all eyes sealed with Triple Thick).  Her blush was done with pastels.

Thanks for looking! :)

Pony Corral / Replacement Swim Rings For Baby Seaponies
« on: July 08, 2017, 06:59:15 PM »
Hey there!  I found these nifty "Doll Swim Rings" on Amazon (they are also for sale on ebay) for about $1 each.  They work nicely as replacement rings for Baby Seaponies and if positioned correctly will allow some ponies to stand upright, or at the very least, keep them from laying on their side.  Thought some of you might be interested.  Thanks for looking! :)

P.S.  Please excuse the poor baits I grabbed for this photo shoot.

Customs / Restoredoll.com Reviews
« on: February 14, 2017, 08:33:28 AM »
Hey there!  So after a decade or so of customizing I have finally come to the conclusion that for true customs (not restorations), I really prefer Saran (Katsilk).  I have some in my supplies from buying out hair stocks from other customizers, but would love to purchase a whole range of other colors.

Can anyone give a recent review of restoredoll.com?  Are they still an active seller?  How is their customer service?  Is the owner a member here?

Thanks so much everyone!  I appreciate it! :)

ETA:  I would love to hear any other recommendations for Saran sellers!  Has anyone bought from customdollhairau on eBay?  Their blends are gorgeous!

Pony Corral / Mummy Charm Pamphlet Help
« on: September 23, 2016, 12:14:37 PM »
Hello!  I completed my Mummy Charm set today! I would like to put them in a shadow box, with the pamphlet/insert.  I think I'll just print a copy off as a place holder though, as they seem pretty pricey on ebay.  My questions are:

Does anyone have a high quality scan of the Mummy Charm pamphlet/insert?

Can anyone provide the dimensions of the original pamphlet?

Thanks so much, in advance! :)

Customs / *Gray Day G3 custom by cookhuman*
« on: July 24, 2016, 10:06:10 AM »
Hello hello!  Just thought I'd share another.  This is Gray Day.  She was inspired by some vintage red winged blackbird artwork, found in an old 1960s era Ford Times catalog.

She was originally a Butterscotch and her hair is an insane mix of DH Cherry Pie, DH Raincloud, RDUS Caviar, DH Arctic Frost, RDUS Cocoa, DH Candy Apple, DH Golden Delicious, DH Lemonade, DH Lemon Meringue, and RDUS Primrose Thrill.  She was painted with Vallejo artist acrylics and sealed with Testors dullcote.

Thanks for looking! :)

Customs / *Honey Bee Blues G3 custom by cookhuman*
« on: July 24, 2016, 09:54:35 AM »
Hey guys!  I haven't been posting my customs for quite a while, but talking to a few people at the Fair inspired me to share.  Hope you enjoy!  :)

This little custom is called Honey Bee Blues.  It is from my "Gettin' Buzzed" series, which are customs inspired by all the little critters that "buzz" me when I am working in my gardens.

I can't remember the base, but she was rehaired in RDUS Niagara, DH Raven Black, RDUS Lilac Fizz Saran, DH Tennis Ball, and DH Guacamole.

She was painted with Vallejo artist acrylics and sealed with Testors dullcote.

Thanks for looking! :)

Pony Corral / Advice on Cleaning G1 Porcelains?
« on: November 25, 2015, 01:36:22 PM »
Hello there!  I recently found my grail porcelain, sleeping Applejack, at a flea market for $3.  She is in lovely condition, but could use a little cleaning.  I have never owned a porcelain before and don't want to ruin it.  Since they are somewhat porous, is it okay to clean them with a little soap and water?  Is there a better way to clean them?  Is there anything that absolutely shouldn't be used...like a Magic Eraser, etc.?  Thanks so much in advance! :)

Off Topic / Looking for Info on a book - "The Mare and her Foal"???
« on: October 06, 2015, 09:10:49 PM »
Hello there!  I am on a mission and am hoping that someone here can help solve this mystery for me.  My husband had a book when he was a child that he absolutely loved and I would like to find out more about it, so that I can hunt a copy down as a present for our anniversary.

He believes that the book was called "The Mare and her Foal".  He bought it at his school's Scholastic Book Fair in the early 1980's.  He said that the book had text, but had a lot of photos of a mare and her foal.  He remembers the cover being royal blue in color.

I have found a book of the same name, but it was first published in 2010, so that isn't it.  I have searched google, ebay, amazon, and half.com with no luck.

I know it is a long shot, but thought that with all the horse lovers we have here that are in our same age range, maybe someone else could confirm that this book exists and give more info such as author name, etc.  Thank you so very much!  :)

Customs / Dragon Custom for Ambar Jul *pic heavy*
« on: August 26, 2014, 09:03:14 PM »
Hey guys!  Long time no see...thanks for checkin' out my custom.  I made this girl for my good south of the border pony friend, Ambar Jul.  She was insanely patient, like ocho months patient, as I couldn't find the inspiration to finish her.  She dug her though, so that made it all worthwhile.

Started pony life as a Rainbow Dash base and was painted with Vallejo acrylics and artist's pastels.  She was re-haired with Stormy Sky, Candy Tuft, Blizzard, Watermelon Martini, Blueberry Muffin, Tinsel, Oyster Shell, Haunted Forest, Deep Sea, Brilliant Black, and Guacamole.

Thanks again for seein' what's doin'! :)

Sigs & Site Support / Accidentally submitted incomplete feedback for someone
« on: September 14, 2013, 06:46:33 PM »
Hello!  I wasn't sure who to PM about this, SS.  I accidentally hit "enter" instead of "tab" when submitting feedback for someone and so my feedback is incomplete (no detailed feedback information).  Is there a way to correct it?  The feedback was for member Iris.  Thanks so much! ;)

Customs / Polska Posy by cookhuman
« on: February 02, 2013, 11:15:40 AM »
Hello!  I finished this custom during the UEFA Euro 2012 Football Championship (last summer).  There was lovely Polish style flower/poppy artwork in all of the commercials and signage for the Championship and it inspired me to make a custom.  She started out as a Meadowbrook that I rescued from the thrift store and was rehaired in Envy, Pussycat, Atomic Turquoise, Peaches n Cream, and Electric Banana.  Thank you so very much for taking the time to check out my custom! :)

Customs / What's Kraken? by cookhuman *pic heavy*
« on: February 02, 2013, 10:54:29 AM »
Hiya!  I started work on this custom ages ago, but just finished her last night.  What's Kraken? was originally a Seaspray who was re-haired with Mango Tango, Atomic Turquoise, Daiquiri Ice, Evil Enchantress, Golden Goddess, and Black Magick.  Her little Octopus friend was sculpted with Apoxie Sculpt, painted with acrylics, and given mermaid bubbles for eyes.  Thanks for looking! :)

Customs / Thistle Bristle by cookhuman
« on: February 02, 2013, 10:12:06 AM »
Hey guys!  Thistle Bristle is a simple, little Thistle custom I started around Halloween last year, but only recently finished.  I dig the flowering Thistle plant, even though the native species we have here is considered a nuisance weed.  She was re-haired in approximately 10-15 DH scrap colors I had blended and had leftover from other customs.  She has purple fiber yarn tied around her tail to mimic the Thistle bristles. Thanks so much for looking! :)

Pony Corral / Does anyone have schematics for 1981 My Pretty Pony?
« on: January 10, 2013, 03:56:38 PM »
Hello!  Does anyone have a copy of the schematics (from Hasbro's website) or the instruction booklet for the 1981 My Pretty Pony?

I have one that I took apart a few years back (to rehair) and I totally forgot how to put it back together.  I remember, several years ago, that someone had found a link to Hasbro's schematics website and I printed off the booklets for several G1 playsets, but not for this pony.

Even if someone has taken one apart and can give advice, that would be really helpful.  Thanks so much! :)

ETA:  Thanks to people who have PM'd with help to get the grooming guide.  I appreciate it, but I actually need to know how the inner mechanisms function/go back together (the spring and all of the little plastic bits).  I wasn't very clear in my original post, sorry... :)
