I think when they say "older generations as blind bags" they probably mean G3s.   That one pink unicorn might conceivably be based off G2 Twinkle Star, but I don't think we've seen ANYTHING else related to older generations, other than G3, have we?  (Besides Applejack, obviously, but that was Lauren Faust's idea, not Hasbro's.)

I really think the designers just aren't bothering to go back that far in their archives or whatever, which is a shame because G1 and G2 had the best color schemes IMO.

I don't think Hasbro can use the ponies from G2 and G1, at least not G1 as far as I'm aware. The patent they had on them expired, didn't it? The only G1s they were able to rescue were Applejack and Spike.

They can use whatever designs they want, the only thing that was really in question was the names AFAIK.     They avoided this with Spike by using the trademark "Spike the Dragon" on him (not just "Spike"), which would be a potential way around that.

(But really I wouldn't even care if they named them something else!  As long as they were used!)

 Hasbro didn't seem to have any problem re-releasing G1's original 6 as toys and the original set of 6 rainbow ponies as toys back in 2006. I don't quite see why they'd have a problem now.

Okay.... C.... Customization?  I know there were blank ponies in the G3 line and they did just release the Design a Pony Dash and Fluttershy... so maybe completely blank vinyl ponies?  That would be pretty awesome.

You know, they are sitting on the easiest way to Trademark them, and I bet they don't even realize it.

'Autobot Bumblebee' 'Spike the Dragon'  That is how they trademarked Bumblebee and Spike.

Why Not 'Fizzy the Unicorn' or 'Surprise the Pegasus'  Kids aren't going to pay attention to the little blurb on the bottom besides seeing what the character's name is.  And They obviously can still use the G1 character designs, just look at all the merch that came out last year with G1 Characters!!!

Like on the package it could say

Yeah, i saw the "build-a-bear" news on EQD. I feel pretty mixed about it as it is yet another MLP product that will not be available worldwide.

Well, judging from the Rudolph and Clarice plush they had out a few years back, these could be pretty spot on!  Ooh, I hope they use the super soft fabric like Rudolph and Clarice have..

AS LONG as they make them into ponies. There is a sliver of fear down in the corner of my mind of them trying to do 'Themed' bears and not really pony plush.
