Arts & Crafts Corral / Sunbeam Plushie
« on: October 13, 2018, 12:51:38 PM »
So, I've been trying to finish Sunbeam for a couple of years so far and she's now done!  She's 15" tall, to the tip of her horn.  Overall I really like her.  Her hair is a very soft yarn and I love how it feels.  What do you think?  What should I try to improve for my next plushie, whenever that may be?

Pony Brag Arena / Local Ponies and a PE!
« on: April 01, 2017, 06:10:55 PM »
So, I've been trolling Kijiji while I'm on Spring Break just for fun since I've had no success in the past.   It's a G1 pony drought out there people.  But the Pony Gods were smiling on me this week.  I found 10 G1's for $25, most of which I don't already have and, while they need a good spa treatment, seem to be in good shape.  YAY!!! Local ponies!  :cheer:

But the real prize is my new Paradise Estate!  I never ever thought I'd get one of these due to shipping alone.  This one isn't complete but it's pretty close, mostly just some of the little pieces are missing.  It's so pretty, though.  So pink.  So HUGE.  I knew the PE was a very big playset but I was not prepared for it's epic-ness.  It also came with Best Wishes, who's in amazing condition.

Here are the pics.  I can't wait to clean up my new ponies.

MLP Nirvana / Looking for information on Moondancers
« on: August 20, 2016, 03:11:29 PM »
I've found that I'm really starting to love the Nirvana Moondancers and think I'd like to begin collecting them but I find I know little to nothing about them other than their pretty pictures.  Could you all help me with rough pricing on them and how common they are.  I'm particularly in love with pink hair Argentina Moondancer.  Which ones are the easiest to come by and which ones will I rarely see for sale?  Feel free to share the pretty pictures of any Moondancers you have.

Ok so here's what I know so far:

Italy Moondancer - easiest to find
SA Moondander - Hardest to find
Pink Hair Argie - $100-150

Pony Corral / Ponies and How My Students Rock
« on: March 17, 2014, 11:11:04 PM »
So, many of the students in my Grade 3/4 class love MLP and some think it's super awesome that I do, too.  One student gave me pony pencils and told me about the cool pony stuff at Michael's.  Today she gifted me a pony eraser and a Builda-Bear flyer advertising Rarity, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo.  Now, I've been waiting for the next installment of BaB ponies and it's my students keeping me in the pony loop.  I have the best students in the world!!! :thumb:

Off Topic / I could be a Dance Intructor???
« on: October 24, 2013, 03:13:53 AM »
I just have to share this.

In the last week or two I have recieved a bunch of dance related emails from my old University and was wondering how in the world I got on these mailing lists.  Now, I have a Fine Arts degree but it's in visual arts and I have never taken a dance course in my life.  Today, I received a hand address letter from said University offering me a position as a Dance Instructor.  I know there's another woman in my city with the same name, she goes to my doctor and now, when I go there I need to provide my date of birth so they know which file to pull.  It's annoying and I was there first, but that's another rant.  I called the Uni and talked with the receptionist who transfered me to someone's voicemail.  Hopefully this will get sorted.

Anyway, I thought it funny that I'm now a dance instructor and I'm sure I have two left feet!

Customs / Showing off a Plushie Custom
« on: October 06, 2013, 03:11:15 PM »
I just wanted to show off my hard work.  I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this so if it's not, can someone put it in the right place?  Thanks.

My friend asked me to make a custom of her friend's ponysona so I took up that challenge.  I had so much fun making mkia9's ponysona I was eager for another challenge.  So I found a new pattern, from the lovely SilentWolfCreation on deviantart which can be found here.  If you're a member here, thanks again for the great pattern.  The pony was a going away gift and she says he loved it.  Knowing that the giftee loved what I made is the best feeling of all.  I just may have to do this again but first I need to practice by making myself a Dr. Whooves. :)

This is the image I was given to work from.

I chose a microsuede-type fabric which was not as easy to work with as I would have liked, but the colour was great and I thought it might be more masculine.  All in all, given my sewing inexperience (I literally had to read the instruction manual on mom's sewing machine to refresh my memory from high school), I'm pretty happy with him, though I know there are flaws.

I used iron-on transfers for the eyes and symbols and learned the peyote stitch for the bracelet so it was like 2 crafts in one.  He was a lot of hard work and I'm inordinately proud of him, so thanks for looking and letting me show off a bit.

Off Topic / Brag! Private Other Collections Swap with mkia9
« on: August 24, 2013, 09:55:35 AM »
When mkia9 was looking for a private swap partner I was eager to respond.  We sent each other our collections info and mine was rather long.  I collect lots of things but mostly in a casual way.  My collections include Star Trek, Dr Who, watches, bookmarks and bunnies.  There are more things I like and mkia9 saw that everything in my box was related to an interest of some kind.

She was a great swap partner and fun to chat with while we were shopping.  I'm glad to have had the opportunity to get to know her and make a new friend.

On to the haul!!!

I wasn't organized enough to take a pic of the box when I opened it, I'm so bad with my camera and taking pics, so lets start with an overall shot of the goodies.

So much awesomeness!!

The detail pics are in spoilers as this is a pic heavy post.  Now for the details:

mkia9 included 3 cards with her box.  Yep, not one, but 3!!!  They were very lovely and each had it's own purpose.  I like the zebra one since she collects zebras.

The candy was really great.  I received the big gummy bears in a previous swap and loved them and the coconut toasted marshmallows are a childhood favourite that I seem to be unable to find locally so I'm so excited to get them.  As you can see, I've already started to eat them.  And the Dig 'n Dips used to be three, nuff said.

In the really cute bunny Star Trek tote bag that mkia made with the help of her SO was some great things.  I love school supplies and when I found that there were MLP folders I knew they would be a big want, how lovely was it of her to include them in the box?  I just know that I'll not find them here, we never seem to get good pony stuff.  And a MLP calendar!!  I was thinking I might go with MLP next year for my calendar so this worked out perfectly.  As did the colouring book since I already have it but couldn't bring myself to colour it and now I can. :D

I collect postcards as a way of travelling vicariously and mkia9 must have stalked me to find this out.  They are from where she lives and a SeaWorld one from a recent vacation.  She also got me a stamped penny from there but it escaped the close ups.

I love stickers also and everything here is going to be used and loved, particularly the Old Time Bunny stickers.  I know mkia9 did stalk me to find out that I love the Avengers.  The little cards with Pinkie Pie and Princess Celestia's cute marks are tattoos!  How cool is that?

I do love bookmarks and mkia9 found some really great ones.  I had been interested in the van Gogh TARDIS art so this bookmark is very loved.  The cute peacock with the pen is very pretty and I know I'll love the pen, such a nice pink colour and pretty patterns.  I love pink.  And the one that intrigued me most was the interlocking magnetic bookmark where the elastic goes in the book and the design connects on the outside.  I've never seen something like this and I love the stars (I'm a space them junkie) and the message "All the wonders you see are within yourself."  I think there's something profound about self awareness and attitude about like here.

Stuff for my classroom or when I sub.  I love stampers and use them all the time in teaching and stickers are always a good thing in my books for the kids.  I love the cute monster theme and the fact that they're on a roll and have a dispenser.  Love the bathroom passes, if I get my own class this year they'll be used for sure.  What a thoughtful and surprise gift.

I had mentioned that I love wizard Mickey and look who made it into my box, along with a button pin?  Along with the cutest little jointed bunny who was in the teaser pics and made me impatient to get my box.

Now for the jewellery.  I love jewellery.  The card of earrings was purchased for the cute bunnies but I love all of the little character and there's what appears to be a clock as well, so it touches on my time piece love.  I also am very fond of the copper coloured earrings, well, of all of them, really. :)  And the cute green stone bunny earrings match a ring I got from a previous swap (mkia9 stalking continues ;)).

And the PONY WATCH!!!!!  I've been wanting a pony watch for a while now and the only ones that seemed nice were the G3 ones, and I'd have been fine with that but I like G4 a little better than G3 so it's wonderful. :D

Now for the amazing Star Trek stuff!!!  She won me the awesome Scotty from a claw machine!  I can never win anything from those machines, much less something I'm aiming for.  And she won it on the first try and got a bonus plushie as well.  I think he's super adorable!  I also love the lunch tin collectible, where she hid more presents, the sly dog.  The tumbler is a real treat as it's of the ship and I love the ship.  I put paper in the glass so you could see the design better.  LOVE THESE!  The mini plate is one I've not seen before and I have 3 already, though one got broke.  I love that it has the entire crew/ cast.

Now for more amazing parts of the box:  FLOATY PENS!!!  These aren't too easy to find, especially Star Trek ones.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE these.  Turns out mkia9 won a random generated raffle for the pen.  She seriously has a horseshoe up her bum to win those two things.  I almost never seem to win anything.  I feel so lucky!

I saved the rest of the crafts for last.  I can't say how much I love these, they are the absolute best parts of the box because they are specially made for me and that makes them extra special.  Princess Celestia was create for my by mkia9's SO and is so beautiful.  I need to get her a frame and hang her right away.  She even came in a cute leaf file folder that is just visible in the overall items picture, so it was a cute 2-in-1 item.  ;)

These crafts were made for me by mkia9, herself and they are the most charming things.  I'm not sure where I'm going to put the bunny but I'm hanging the Star Trek insignia as soon as possible.  I got a bit of a chip in transit but the pieces are there and it should be no problem to fix up good as new.

This was a great swap and I enjoyed every minute of it.  I made a new friend who I was able to get great items for and got super awesome, amazing items in return.  I can't tell you how great mkia9 was as a swap partner.  She was super communicative and friendly and really got to know my likes so she could put together a great box for me.  I feel so spoiled and special with this box.

Thanks so much mkia9, you rock like fuzzy socks!

Could I please get your help again to price this little boy?  He's all over the map on ebay right now so I've no idea what a fair price would be.  He has one small spot on his back leg and his bow tie's elastic is separated from the cover.  Here's the pics.  Thanks so much!

Off Topic / iPod Help!!!
« on: January 06, 2013, 03:18:04 PM »
I'm such a non-teckie at times   :(

My mom's thinking of getting one but we're not sure how the downloading of cd's on to the thing works.  Do we have to interface with iTunes for everything?  She's got all her music on her hard drive already, how does she then get it on her iPod?  Will it be fairly straight forward?  She's also considering a Sony MP3 player and has other MP3 players she uses.

HELP!!!!  Thanks.  :)

Off Topic / Help shipping a book from the US to Canada, Please???
« on: December 27, 2012, 02:56:51 PM »
Hi all,

My mom really wants a book that is available in the US for a reasonable price, under $30 but in Canada is over $100.  It's used from Amazon.com and the shipper won't send to Canada.  Would some kind soul play intermediary for the book?  I will, of course, pay all expenses plus a gratuity for your trouble, which can be in money or pony form, whichever you prefer.  Thank you so very much for looking and any help that you can offer.

Pony Corral / EDIT - Finished Crafts - Wave 4 Blind Bag Ponies Question
« on: December 11, 2012, 08:59:15 PM »
I don't collect the new ponies and have never gotten the blind bags in the past but I was thinking about buying some to do crafts with, probably Christmas ornaments.  What I want to know is if there are any that I shouldn't mess with if I happen to get it or are they all pretty common and fair game for crafts?

Thanks everyone!

Pony Corral / Who's Your Favourite Pony and Why?
« on: October 11, 2012, 09:41:33 AM »
I'm curious to know, if you could only pick one pony, who your favourite is.  Is it a childhood pony, is it the colours you like, or from a show with characterization that you love?  What's your ponies name and generation?

It's a hard one for me, and though I just love many of the ponies from many of the generations, for me it goes back to my childhood ponies.  It's a toss up between Firefly, who was my most played with pony as a kid, and Glory, who was my last pony and therefore stayed very pretty (and I LOVE white ponies).  In the end, since I'm asking you all to choose just one pony, I'm going to choose Firefly, but it was a really tough call.

I feel like I want to share my Firefly story.  :)   When I was young and living in small town Saskatchewan, we would often go to the nearest city to shop which was an hour away.  One time I took Firefly with me and for some reason my sister and I stayed in the car while my parents shopped (it must have been groceries since we didn't usually stay in the car).  So, bored kids playing in the car, at one point Firefly went on top of the car... Yep, I forgot her there!  On the highway home I realized that's where she was.  I was devastated!  Probably crying and such as only I can do.  ;)   When we got home, I looked at the roof of the car, hoping beyond hope, and guess who was wedged into the roof rack!  FIREFLY!!!!!  I felt then that she was a very special pony, even more so than before.  Though, due to my love for her, she was totally destroyed in my childhood: no tail, no symbols, eye rub...  I think she finally left my house amid some bait ponies since I can't seem to find her anymore.

Share your pony love!

Pony Corral / Ask the Experts: G1 Applejack with Orange Apples???
« on: October 02, 2012, 01:17:04 AM »
You all are more experts than me when it comes to 'different' ponies.  I have a G1 Applejack from Hong Kong with orange apples and more teal coloured leaves and eye colour.  The colouration is even on both sides.  I've never seen her with anything but red apples though I've seen baby AJ has the orange apples.  I think this is this a factory defect, what do you think?  Some people have thought she's just faded but with such even colouring...  She's up for sale but I'm not sure what to ask for her or if anyone would be interested in her as something other than a regular old AJ.
