Hand made flutter wings, thanks to tutorial!
« on: July 08, 2016, 10:07:39 AM »
Thanks to a wonderful tutorial I found on the internet I made these wings for my sweeties and I finally styled their hair! This was not done today but a week or so back but hadn't bothered to share it with you guys yet.

I'm not the best pony hair stylist and I could still use a lot of advice, but I think it looks pretty god for now! Especially with their beautiful wings made of soda bottle plastic and nail polish. I still had 3 Ponies in curlers so they are not included in the group pic. But I'm still collecting so the family isn't complete yet.

Now, these pictures were after I flat ironed their hair but before I styled and curled them. Also, the tutorial shows different types of wings you can make with a bottle. I couldn't pick which one I liked most so I made all of them to look what looked best. But in the end I picked the cloud looking ones because I thought they were the perfect format for display. But here you can see an example of what the other wings looked like:

Cloud wings before being painted with nail polish:

Here are the different types of wings the tutorial shows after I made them and put them on my babies:

I hope you enjoyed the show haha. My princesses are happy with their new wings.

Many thanks to the person who was so creative to make this tutorial. It's so much fun to do and much cheaper then buying the original or repro wings haha. Oh, yeah...and they don't break! :D

PS: The tutorial says that she uses super glue or some other type of strong glue. I didn't use super glue to glue them but some kind of  "filler" gel. When the gel dries it created a little thick layer around the base of the wing which makes them stick in nicely and you can take them in and out easily like the originals without having to glue them stuck again.

See example below and the "glue" I used:

See you all around! :)

Lovely!!  I have only two flutters (Forget-Me-Not and Honeysuckle), and I think I might make wings for them someday, especially after seeing how nicely yours turned out.  :good:

Yeah you should! It's great fun!

Btw, It might not be visible on the pictures, but I gave them a finishing touch with this special "green-ish" glow nail polish to resemble the original colour. But it's better visible in real life.

Awesome!  I always think the flutters are so much prettier with their wings, yet they seldom have them. What a lovely way to make them look beautiful again :lovey:

The wings and hair styling look adorable and I'm so happy to see your addition to the tutorial with the filler gel! So cute, and they will stick but you can switch them out for other wings still. Nice!

Those wings look great!  Your girls look happy to have songs again!  The hair styling is nice too!  It almost looks new!

They look so pretty! What a lovely job you did, both on the wings and their hair. ^.^  I love seeing flutter ponies and wingers get their wings back!

Wishlist - I'm back on (semi-) active buying again... can't buy everything on my wish list all at once (yay, back-to-school and tuition fees), but I am still looking to plump up my collection a bit more: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html

Oh wow those turned out so amazing!  I was planning on making some of those but haven't done it yet...in favor of shell jewelry but have several wingless flutters on the way to try this on...I hope mine turn out even close to as nice as yours.

Your choice of finishes turned out great!  So elegant and sparkly.  I like that you tried out the other shapes too; they all look so good.

Thanks for sharing!

Good to see that you all like it :)

Yeah, it's such a special sight to see a flutter pony with wings again. It looks like a totally different pony when it has it's wings back. So cute and they look so happy. :frolic:

I'm sure they are much happier!  They've been grounded for 30 years.

Does anypony know, did any of the flutterponies come with the exotic wings shapes or just the cloudy-outline main style?
