What ponies do you collect?

I actually have way more G1 comics and merchandise from the UK (mostly UK Club Member stuff) than I do legitimate ponies (asides from the 30 G4s I own). My G1, G2 and G3 collection combined (if you want to count plush Starshine) equates to only 20 ponies, with 15 G1s, a single G2 and 4 G3s. I usually get G1s that I enjoy from the show, but in the case of Mountain Boys, wingers, etc., I may make an exception in the future.

I collect pretty much anything I can find!

Mostly G1 ponies from Year 1 to Year 5.  Random ponies from other generations, and random sets from later in G1 (like the Sparkle ponies). 

I don't collect plushies or accessories.  I don't collect G4 blind bags in general, but I do collect the translucent ones (WITHOUT glitter only) and I want to get Luna's chariot for sure.

I don't buy too much as of late but I'll keep any regular brushable ponies that I like.

I take in any g1s that come my way in need of TLC, and occasionally buy off a fairly small want list. G2s are harder for me to come by but I'd love to work on that collection in the future! I still actively seek out any g3s I don't have at thrift stores, and I'm not too much into g4 but sometimes I'll keep one I particularly like from a Value Village bag, or buy a new one just to relive the childhood fun of opening a brand new pony. :9

Brushables of all generations (not actively looking for G3.5, but will keep any that come in lots)
G4 blind bags - they're cute and pretty, and don't take up too much space
Occasional bits of merchandise, if I think it's pretty, or it brings back nostalgic memories.

I don't collect plush, Ponyville or Funko figures, but again I'd keep them if they came with other things in a lot, or if someone gave me them as a present.

G1-2-3 everything as I find it anyways, I don't seek out the tie-in merchandise but if I find it I wouldn't pass it up.

I collect G1 & G3. I have about 10 G1s and 50 G3s.

I collect G4 brushables and mini figures only, and only 1 of each character per. I used to collect other G4 things but not anymore due to space and getting overwhelmed. I've tried having a few G1 and G3 before but didn't feel the same about them as G4, so I no longer have them. I'd probably collect funko minis if the earlier accurate color ones were more easily obtainable.

G1 only now, I downsized my collection, sold all of my G3-G4 so happy now. I have so much more space and some money

My rule of thumb is "whatever I like".

I like G1s best, especially "bait" quality ponies. I don't do much more than clean them up and wash their hair. I just love the well-loved ponies who'd have the most interesting stories to tell.

For G3.5s I only really like customs and I avoid G4 due to poor quality control, but aside from that I pick up whatever catches my eye. I tend to prefer G1 or G2 merchandise. White bodied ponies tempt me the most! Even if I'm not huge on their symbol I can usually get over it on a pretty white base
