Ok whats the feelings on White Windy?
« on: January 21, 2016, 02:14:55 AM »
Im sure this is a Nirvana topic but feel free to move me  :big grin:

I remember years ago 'White Windy' was the in thing to have and I was lucky to get one....

So whats the thoughts on her now? The real thing or just a faded pony?

Mine is the same colour all the way though (her head is loose) and a beautiful blue symbol

Happy to post pictures but what does everyone think?

Thanks xx

I have one too, I think it's a different batch of ponies, with different die.
It's a fun variation all the same.

I haven't seen one in person but I have seen pics of a couple that would probably be considered more-or-less genuine rather than faded...

I think they're faded, like those white Bluebelles.

I don't think she is "real" and by that I mean I don't think she was made white :) I think she is like those odd splotchy Bluebells in that something has happened to her dye over the years due to some sort of manufacturing blooper.

I own a "White Windy" complete with blue symbols, but on very close inspection there are traces of lilac inside her.

I do think she was made white, not faded. Her symbol is consistently blue, not purple. That seals it for me since she was manufactured differently. It's possible she was originally lavender in a different dye lot more prone to fading, as mentioned above, but because of the symbol coloration, still a true variant vs. faded common. I have not seen instances of normal Windy with a purple symbol that changed to blue over time.

I would say genuine...shes white inside as well which leads me to believe no fading has happened because the inside of ponies isnt exposed to sun light therefor it would not fade like the outside of a pony would. Plus her symbol is consistently blue sparkle unlike purple windy who has purple sparkle. awesome variation IMO.

I think she is faded as well, I had one that was white but not all the way transitioned to white on the neck seam~ but she is still cool to have!

I'm also of the opinion it is fading.... or at least a combination of fading and weak dye.

For me she exists but doesn't exist.

She exists in that there is a paler version of Windy out there, and there are two symbol versions for Windy anyway, paint backed and non-paint backed. I don't believe in white Windy with blue symbols because purple glitter fades to blue. And I don't really believe that Hasbro intentionally made a white Windy, like they made a yellow Moondancer.

But I do believe that different batches had different concentrations of colour. I don't believe this Windy faded - I believe she was just made paler from the start in a batch issue thing. My reasoning is that my childhood Windy, who has lived with me since 1984, has been through everything imaginable, is faded but not consistently all over the body. I also don't believe in the dye magically all seeping/fading out to the same level at once. That really doesn't seem likely.

The fact there is also what I call a strawberry yogurt Parasol and a raspberry yogurt Parasol,

and there are very pristine white Starshines which don't discolour vs the ones that do makes me think that different batches just have slight colour variations. I have also seen the darker/lighter thing on Skydancer but have no image. And since the UK had the rainbows later than the US, it makes sense for that to be the case, especially considering the symbol variation possibility.

So white Windy exists in terms of there was a paler batch in my view. But she doesn't exist as a variation any more than the two Parasol versions are considered deliberate variations.

Thus for me she is worth the same as a regular Windy. But it's up to whoever is buying.

I think it's just a batch of fading weak dye - I don't think they ever intended Windy to be white.  Pale lavender, sure.  Not white.

I think it's probably a bad dye batch, but whatever it is, it's the same issue as the white Bluebelles have, at least the Blue symbol ones.

The ones with Blue symbols remind me of the white Bluebelles with pink symbols, and I have yet to get a regular Bluebelle to fade all the way like the white ones(believe me, I've tried!).  Unfortunately with the white Windys, regular Windy *does* fade to a near white, making it harder to separate the dye issue ones from the just faded ones, where with the Bluebelles, there is a large enough difference to make it obvious.

In other words, there *are* white Windys out there, but she's really hard to tell apart from a just faded Windy.  Didn't someone have a piebald Windy, blotchy white and lavender?

So Ill let everyone draw their own conclusions, but this seems related and relevant to compare (although that's not why I did it originally). Please forgive me, I'm terrible with a camera! I hope that doesn't distract too much....

Princess Tiffany is in the photo since her white is relatively consistent to compare. The bait baby blossom is completely white, no hints of lavender anywhere. Her white is a translucent white similar to white windy and some versions of other white rainbow ponies. The bait baby was sun faded for 4 years.

(edit to put photos in a spoiler)
