Gifting Yourself On Christmas?
« on: December 24, 2015, 11:21:42 AM »
Anyone buying themselves a present for Christmas? If so, what? I just looked up how many people gift themselves on Christmas and it says a little over half of us.

I got myself something originally, then I received gift cards for Christmas so I went ahead and got a few more things. :)

Pretty much all I get from family and friends comes as cash or gift cards. My loved ones just aren't into actually buying gifts. They feel it takes too much effort and all hate shopping. When I was a kid I made lists to Santa and received stuff from it, but all grown up I'm suppose to be "old enough that it shouldn't matter".

I have very mixed feelings on it.

On one hand, it ensures that money shouldn't go to waste. I know what I like, right?

But it's also kinda mentally exhausting. I do pick presents and I start early. After putting things together for everybody I go out the day after (boxing day up here) and get "my" stuff.

It kinda defeats the point of giving gifts, though. (In my opinion.) Where's the surprise? Where's the thought or effort or meaning? I have money. If I want something I can generally either go out and get it, or I can save up for it.

By this time of the month I'm done shopping. Or should be, at least.

Sorry if I seem negative, but I've been thinking on this a while and it bugs me.

Surprises of real gifts are nice, too. I have some coming that I'm excited to see. :)

Still, I am excited about what I did get with the gift cards. A lot of family is still kind of like 'well I figure you have everything MLP so here's money to get yourself what you don't have.' LOL.

Here are my gifts to myself then:

I really wish this came in a different color. This is only $20 shipped this year/right now so I finally got it for something comfy to wear around the house.

but i get a lot of gifts from me, for my unbirthday, which seems to happen randomly throughout the year.
this year for Christmas i got myself a lightsaber case. so i can make my own.
well it's not really a lightsaber case, as much as it's on old cool looking pipe.
but it will be a lightsaber. mwhahahahahahaha

I have gifted myself a PS4 and new pony shelves.

About gifts in general, I prefer to only buy something if I find an item that makes me think of the person in mind. Like a friend who is a roller derby player, she got a rollerskates pony from me when she got her spot in the national team. For that reason I don't like Christmas because the gifting often feels forced.

Last year I bought myself a pretty pricey Godzilla plush, this year I nabbed some games thanks to the Steam sale. I also took a nice bath today with one of my Lush bath bombs, I think that counts as a present  :P

I bought myself some inspirational posters that I bought frames for and framed today for my room I use as an office. Inspirational in that they are of my fave actors, a young Denzel Washington and Sidney Poitier! Inspiring to me, anyway... Oh, I accidentally bought myself the Maze Runner series and another series of books as they were on special offer. I don't have many people to buy me presents, so I buy what I like anyway.

I consider my iPhone my Christmas gift to myself; I bought it at the end of November, and nothing else since, so I guess this counts. And I love it!
Merry Christmas everyone!

I will sometimes get something for myself. We do exchange gifts in the family, but we keep things small and simple. This year for myself I got a new Jiu Jitsu gi, since it was gorgeous and on sale, and I will always need gis, so it's ok... right? I always feel guilty whenever I Christmas gift myself though.

Looks like I opened my mouth too soon. My mother decided to actually shop this year. I got shower gels and lotions for entire Bath and Body Works winter collection. :dropjaw: I'm excited about a lot of the scents, though I do think she went a wee bit overboard. Will I have all that gone by next Christmas?

As for what I'm buying myself? I'll be getting some new CDs / an iTunes card (I like owning music physically when possible), my Smash Book, a new mug and some teas from Davids Tea, a couple Disney Infinity figures and possibly Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition for PS4. Still haven't decided on that last one. Oh! And maybe something Lego Elves.

For the first time ever I bought myself a tiny gift. It's a blind box--so it will be a surprise. I only did it because every one keeps telling me that got me something crummy that I won't like. So I thought it'd be good to buy something cute.
