Short hair vs. long hair
« on: June 03, 2015, 11:03:31 AM »
Hay Ponies!

I'm somewhat familiar with the G1 MLP world, but still have lots to learn (I believe you can learn something new every day, and I'm a sponge right now! lol) Here's another question I have:

I have recently learned there were various G1 USA ponies made with long hair and short hair...This isn't a debate on which is better lol, but rather 1) What ponies have been made that way and 2) Which of each is more sought after / valuable? I'm in the process of making my wish/want lists and just wondered if it would be worth it to add the others I am lacking, along with some new ponies (if any tickle my fancy) with both hair styles/versions.. Here are the ponies I know about so far, with mentioning the ones I have:

1) Medley (I have the long hair version. <3)

2) Bowtie (long hair)

3) Apple Jack (short hair)

I appreciate any and all feedback and info! Thanks!  :frolic:

Firefly and Medley both came with longer curly hair in their second release, as did Bowtie and Applejack.  :)

:lovey: Oh, is that all? That's cool, I just thought there were more than that! Thank you for the info! :) I am naturally assuming the short hair versions are more valuable, since they are the first additions.? :)

Yes, as Skeen says just the 4.

You tend to find the longer hair versions go a little higher - they are harder to find. However by higher its normally only a few dollars more (and sometimes not even that). :)
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Yeah, and a lot of that small extra cost is whether or not the longer hair is still even remotely curly.  If it's not they just look like messed up normal releases.  XD

I've been collecting ponies since the late 90's, not counting when I was a kid... and I also wheel and deal a lot, so I've had pretty much every US pony (and quite a lot of the Euros and MO's) pass through my hands at one point or another over the years. And I swear, not once have I ever had a long-haired Firefly. Does she really exist? I know there's a long-haired Medley, and I've had long-haired Applejacks and Bowties, but never Firefly.

Anyway, I'd agree that the long-haired versions are harder to find, but they're still fairly common.

Yes, she exists, and she's lovely.  I have one.  :)  Long-haired Bowtie is the only one I'm missing.

Long-haired Firefly certainly does exist. It seems lately whenever I get a lot of ponies it always has one in it! To me, they don't seem all that hard to find, just maybe not sought after.

*Googles for pics of long haired Firefly* I swear, I have had umpteen LH Medleys but never a Firefly... she is pretty with the long hair. Now that I've said something, you watch, I'll end up with, like, 5 in short order. :D

I think it would have been cool if the second release of Moondancer and Glory had long hair as well.

Just search the completed fireflies on eBay. I sold at least 2 in the past month.

But yeah, I do see a few of the LH ones mixed in.

I'm also digging the bootleg Firefly plushie that's all over eBay lately. *saves pennies* :D

I have long haired Firefly (with gorgeous curls, she's droolworthy for sure), but can't for the life of me get a long haired Medley over here! We should do a 'Long-hair Trade'!

And here is something weird, I have a long-haired CJ as well as one with a "Tootsie-style" bob.  We she released twice too?  They're both marked HK and are identical otherwise.
