MLP quality control....
« on: April 13, 2015, 12:56:13 PM »
(if this is the wrong thread please move it, I wasn't sure where this was supposed to go)
Okay, I haven't bought a actual g4 pony in some time...aw year or so. I  was doing some MLP collection videos on youtube and I heard someone say something about them using new plastic. so I bought one of those new $2.97 single plastic ones from Walmart to see how much they've changed

and oh my god is it horrendous
here's my (kind of?) official Lyra on the left. I bought her off Ebay in like....2011? I think? At the time since she actually wasn't released (Maybe a prototype?) and on the right is the one I bought earlier today

the plastic alone is gross enough...it's cheap and like...kinda sticky to the touch? I'm not even sure how to describe it. you can tell how the new one has a really shiny finish verus the old one which has a nice matte finish

oh and lets' not forget the neck hair it has in it (definitely more than one piece stuck inside ther)

\

and the hair itself is like straw and frizzy and aggravating if anything. >_<

Ah, I dunno.
I don't expect much for a toy that's under $3. To be fair, there are a lot worse flaws out there. I believe G1s also suffered from neck hair.

I mean from the old figurines cutting the packaging and the little plastic toys is really all you're not getting. but then cutting back of quality of the actual pony itself seems silly to me O.o

In general, MLPs are cheap toys. You get misaligned eyes, dirt in plastic, dry hair even in the boxed versions.

The two Lyras weren't made at the same time, so it's not surprising there are differences in the plastic or the hair.

I got most of my G4 ponies loose on ebay from China, catching up a year or so behind the shop releases. Some of them have minor factory flaws but they were cheap and generally better quality than the newer ones. Works for me, all my ponies have minor flaws anyway and I doubt G4 will ever be that collectible due to the sheer numbers released. The later G4 releases I have bought MIP in stores because they still look good in their packaging and I don't really want to get them out and play with them.  I tend to only buy gimmicky ponies to keep MIP now and every version of Pinkie ()!

I've noticed at least half the G4 brushables I've gotten have had neck hair. I don't understand how that even happens.

Quality Control? What's that? I bought a couple of those little singles brushables, conditioned their hair and brushed it and it turned out all silky and shiny

It's sad that about a year ago the quality was waaaaaay worse for G4 ponies and they've actually improved a lot.
