There were still a lot of issues. One of the concerns you mentioned was hairs caught in the neck...thats incredibly common with G1s. As would be scuffs and factory dirt during manufacture.

And in addition in the scheme of money - G4s are much much much more affordable in the current world than G1s were. The fact 30 years after their release, MLP remain the same price (despite the scale of inflations) shows how now they are pocket money toys but in the past a more considered purchase.

Hair in G1 necks hasn't been something I've ever experienced, but maybe I've just been unbelievably lucky? I didn't even realize that was a problem people have had with them, but I've had it with about 95% of all the G4 brushables I've gotten so far.
