To pink, or not to pink....?
« on: November 19, 2014, 10:52:53 AM »
I would love to hear your opinions about re-pinking ponies hair. I am a picky collector that does not tolerate hair cuts and the like, though a few of my girls hair is white that should be pink. I am considering having their hair re-pinked back to original colour, but the conundrum is then they are not "original"- do you consider re-pinking to be on the same level as customising?
Thank you Lindsay1988 for this beautiful Sig!  :lovey:

I'd personally rather have a re-pink'd pony than one with white hair where it isn't supposed to be.

(Except for Lickety Split. She's much better with white hair!)

Repink-ing is altering a pony so to me it wouldn't be original.

I would rather have the pony restored to as much of her/his former glory as possible... Wouldn't bother me the least to know she/he had re-pinked hair...  I say "PINK AWAY"!! :P

I have thought that same thing.. I really like that ponies have their pink hair instead of that ugly white. But then again it is not orginal if you dye it.
I would say do as you want but if you're going to sell them later it is good to let buyer know that the hair is re-pinked. And as a seller it is up to you how to price re-pinked pony (it is not stupid who ask but the one who pays ;)) then buyer can choose if she/he wants buy the pony or not.. :) That's simple I think :P

I say GO PINK! It is not like its a mayor flaw to repink hair, eventually it can turn white again anyway if one regret it.

I have repinked, but lately I don't. Even though I have ponies with white manes and pink tails (or vice versa), it still looks cute. If I do repink, it's usually a pony I plan on keeping. I won't do it to a Posey, but everything else is fair game.  I've also UN-pinked by fading the hair (tails!) under my aquarium light so the little peek of pink is gone.

It doesn't look like fake pink so it can be my little secret... I'd tell the truth if I was asked, but it's mainly just for display aesthetics. :silly:
I have a Little Flitter who's original pink faded and I'm planning on repinking her. I dye my hair in real life sometimes, so, hey. :awake:

I have repinked in the past but only on ponies that I have ultimately sold and replaced with actual pink haired versions :) However, I am a fussy collector so I think perhaps I am not the best case.

I'm like Hathorcat in that back in the day I re-pinked a small few of my ponies. But most of those have been ultimately moved on as my collecting tastes have changed - I'm personally very much a purist now - no rehairs and no re-pinks for me anymore if I can help it, I now hold out for as original ponies as possible.

On whether to do it or not though, ultimately up to you! I'd probably factor in whether you foresee the ponies in question staying in your collection long term :)  From a re-sale point of view, higher value ponies I'd probably leave alone, but a US Posey or something similar (not having a dig at you Chi, just using her as a general example!  ;)), is quite common and thus I think less of an issue if her hair were to be 'altered' to look original again (though I think it important any 're-pinking' be disclosed in any sales!)  :)

This so much! It's one thing to restore a pony to their original state, it's quite another to sell
them off and make it seem like they've been that way forever.

Always let potential buyers/traders know everything that you've done to a pony.

I'd rather have a pony restored (as long as it was flawlessly) than original and degraded. Even if it's like some rare pony that has a horrible cut and marker. Pff. I'd rather have it rehaired and cleaned up than looking like that mess.

I can see both sides of the debate.  I've never re-pinked/ had a re-pinked pony, but I don't think it would bother me.  I guess it just seems more like restoration rather than customizing, same with fixing rubbed symbols.  As long as it is done well and you disclose that it is re-pinked if you sell her I don't see the problem.  If I was buying a pony I would like to know if the hair was originally pink or not, but it wouldn't bother me either way beyond the fact that I would pay more for a pony with original pink hair than one who had been re-pinked.

I've re-pinked quite a few times, as my ponies once here are here to stay, but if for any reason I were to sell I would disclose this fact to potential buyers. I think re-pinking helps restore ponies to their former glory!

I would and have re-pinked!  I consider it restoration, and I'd rather have a restored pony too :)
