Kitty Kitty Kittens - Are They Collectible?
« on: November 14, 2014, 08:35:53 AM »
I picked up a vintage '93  cream & white Kitty Kitty Kitten the other day.  S/He needs a bath and has an eye chip (and the tush tag is quite faded).  Original collar, but the name of "Jesy" is written in pen.

Sooooo...is this item worth cleaning/trading?

Also, did the '93 kittens have water bladders?  I don't feel anything inside the body.

The main reason I'm asking is because my dog is kinda-sorta-obsessed with getting her paws on this toy.  It's bad enough that my dog is obsessed with befriending every living cat we come across.  Now she's entranced by the purring of a toy cat.

...she did get it from me a few minutes ago and took it into her crate to have a snuggle.  It's very cute, but then again if this furball is desired by collectors, I'd like to see it find a good home.

Thanks!

I'd definitely say there's a collectors market for them.  I've started a collection myself.

LoL, well that's good to know!

I'll give "Jesy" a wash and keep my dog from adopting her ;)

Yeah, they have a bladder... It's that weird early 90's obsession with smooshy stuffed animals, LOL. Himmie had one one day and I squeezed it.  Yes, there's a market good luck selling.

OMG, I have on of those!  My niece adores playing with it when she is over.  She is strangely obsessed with it.  No other plush kitty will do.  She always asks if she can go and grab that one from the shelf.  She has something in common with your dog

I know some members here definitely collect them. I'd love to have a few myself but no room for them.

You know, I'm pretty sure the ones from the '90s don't have bladders. The ones I got as a kid don't have them (I still have all of mine, about 12!); my sister, who's about five years younger, got one or two of the newer ones when they came out and they do have bladders.

Kind of funny, reading my response, with bladders and all. But yeah. I think there is a market for Kitty, Kitty, Kittens. Some sell on Ebay; I would say especially the ones likes yours, because those are the older ones. Then again, their condition might matter more, and you mentioned yours had flaws. But you could try!

I was so obsessed with these things when they first came out. :)

Mine had bladders when they were new, but by now they've dried out. I think that's what happens to a lot of the secondhand ones- they dry out, if they don't pop first.

Mine is bladder free too.  It's one of the first ones they brought out and they indeed didn't have bladders ...

I collect them ^^ I have a very large and extensive collection actually, and I'm hoping to one day start an informational website about them.

I definitely wouldn't let the dog have her unless her fur is in terrible shape, their prices average upward of $20  :)
