Any downsides to using Etsy?
« on: September 30, 2014, 07:19:57 PM »
I'm considering setting up an Etsy shop, since I want to avoid ebay and things move kinda slowly (sorry!) here on the Arena. But are there any downsides? Do you run into difficult buyers like on ebay?

It's super hard for your items to be visible/searchable on ebay.  There are so many sellers/items that things get bumped down very fast and I've had little-to-no luck selling there. =/

the listing can last for so long... no one bids cuz there is less of a time worry.

Etsy is nicer and less expensive, but the downside is way less exposure.  So your stuff could be up there for months.

I had listed a bunch of dolls a long while back, and I swear they were at incredible prices-  but they never sold so eventually I just stuck them on ebay where they sold instantly.

Ebay is evil, but it seems that a LOT of people shop on it...

I think maybe it would be a good idea to set up an Esty shop, and then occasionally sell something popular/eyecatching on ebay, with links back to your shop, to attract attention...
