Fantasy / LotR / fashion fans? A little help, please!

A little background: My friend's getting married in September. After searching in vain for a dress in the more traditional stores (M&S, Primark), I told myself, "Why not go for something I truly love?" I went online and found this amazing shop that sells medieval / fairy tale / gothic-style clothes. It's something I wanted to try for ages, but I never got the chance (or the nerve) to go for it... until now!

Here's the dress I bought (I went for the wine red):

It arrived earlier this week, and it's even more stunning than in the pictures.

Now, here's what I need help with. As you can see, the dress has got a very nice neckline, so I'm wondering about what kind of necklace and other jewellery would go with it. Also, there's the question of nail polish / no nail polish / if yes, which colour? In order to do the dress justice, I want to stay traditionally fairytale in style, maybe a little Elvish?

I thought we could all brain-storm together and see what comes up. Of course, other advice for styling is welcome as well! If you've got a similar style, I'd love to see pics, too.

Pendants are big in Elvish fashion... glass is a bonus! 

I would use nude nail polish if anything but that's just me thinking that elves don't use nail polish...

A bronzed leaf pendant or something, they wouldn't do too many beads on their jewellery. Oh no.

Beautiful dress, Snork.  From my recollection, elves seem to wear very intricate jewellery.  In the theme of Arwen's Evenstar pendant from LOTR:

There is some nice jewellery for sale on pinterest too.  Ear 'cuffs' are really popular too. The kind that goes right up the side of your ear

Great advice, guys! I'll definitely check out that kind of necklace.

As for nail polish, I normally don't wear any, so I might as well stick with that, or maybe use clear polish. I'm not a big fan of nail polish anyway.

If you want to go elven, you have ideas.

If you want to go medi, the necklaces are much more bold but just as intricate! Spirals, coins, jewel colours of large sized stones....lots of wire work on the stones.

Its actually pretty fun to create something yourself or I could probably come up with something.

Just do a search for medi inspired necklaces, headpieces or belts

For nail polish I'd use some nude-pastel-semi transparent just to add shine and colour.
I actually have that Arwen's necklace. It's licensed and I got it for around €20
Those earcuffs can get a little uncomfortable after some time if you are not used to them. You also might need to have them adjusted for size before wearing. I have one with a dragon. They look very interesting

What shade is your skin? I agree with all their advice, but that'll influence whether silver, bronze, or gold would look better.

Re: earcuffs: They look very pretty, but I don't think I'd wear them. I've got long wavy hair that I wear loose (which goes with the elvish style), so you wouldn't see them anyway.

I'm white, but slightly tanned at the moment. I mostly go for silver jewellery, sometimes gold, but I've never tried bronze. Always happy to try something new, though.

I think bronze or silver would look good then! Gold might vanish too much against your skin

I just had a look on Etsy and came across a replica of Arwen's necklace (as suggested by some of you). So pretty! I'm going to keep my eyes open for something equally nice, but I'm very tempted to go for this one.

Yay thank you, glad you like it!  :-D  The instant I saw SnorkMaiden's dress, I thought Eowyn or Arwen.  ^^  Goodness, I'd love Arwen's red dress or Eowyn's white one.  Wish I could sew...
