How does the avi effect you?

I tend to recognize people by their avatars/sigs It always messes me up when they change.

Yep! I at least do a double take. It's almost always confusing for a little while when someone changes theirs.

Yes, that usually happens for me.  I end up associating their avatar with their name and my mind keeps trying to tell me that's what they look like in real life, even if their avatar is a pony or some other non-human image, lol.  I expect people probably think I'm a guy all the time, lol.

I generally tend to imagine people AS their avatar without realising I always think, whenever I go to a meetup, that people should have little nametags with their name and current avatar. It'd make recognising them a whole lot easier.

I don't usually project the avi on to the tone of post. I usually just think that the person looks just like their avi, regardless of how cartoony and unrealistic it is. But, like many others have said, unless I meet Skeen, she will always be Captain Janeway.

I find it fun to identify people by their avvi's. Most of them are quite cute. :o) I'm very much a name person (I have a job where I work with tens of thousands of names) so I tend to recognize people even if they change stuff up. We've had so many new members over the last few years that it's hard to keep up sometimes.


Oh, gosh yes, I love Zapper's unicorn guy (you gotta check it out here LOL). She's had that one forever.

I recognize people by their OCs or favorite/army ponies. Like I recognize hathor by Fifi, Diamond by Minty, SDS by her OC, and Urocyon by Skypin, even if they change their icons. Unless you guys change to something completely different, then I'll be confused.

My icon is always my OC and she's pretty recognizable with the claws and tail.

Mostly I think it affects whether I see them as a boy or a girl.
If some people have a pretty recognisable avatar for a long time, and if it's a pony or person or other being, then I'll probably picture them as the avatar. Not so much if it's an inanimate object or logo or something else...

It's pretty convenient that a lot of people here have a ponysona as their avatar, because then it kind of IS them! Or at least it's a reasonable thing to picture them as!
