How does the avi effect you?

I tend to recognize people by their avatars/sigs It always messes me up when they change.

I recognize people by their avatars too (on any forum) so I try to keep mine consistent too, and when I feel the need to mix things up, I usually just change my sig.

I definitely think of people who use the same avatar, as BEING that avatar-  for example I definitely think that Skeen looks identical to Captain Kathryn Janeway.  She does, right?  LadySatine probably bears a striking resemblance to Hook from Happily Ever After, right???  Okay maybe they don't LOOK like them, but I do think of avatars as a reflection of what kind of person that person is.  Like Lorelei Redfern, who has the heart of a sweet little puppy 

I commissioned my avatar from xkappax and think that it's perfect for representing me.  I think of myself as being pretty compassionate for the most part, but also have a distinctly wicked side hovering in the background.  What do you expect from a lawyer?

I change both avatars and signatures, but I try to keep my Sunflower persona consistently in my avatar. It lets me have variety while still trying to be easily identifiable to people on the boards, hopefully.

But seriously, I had a volunteer request on the old forum in 2009 for a persona to be drawn and it never happened so I decided to go with something other than pony (even though this is a pony forum) I've always been one to not totally go with the rest in some ways...

I look at usernames while reading posts, so in my experience avatars and signatures are aesthetic, and I'm not bothered when others' change either of these things.
(Which is probably why I have no regrets when changing mine, lol. I wonder how many people I've confused. ) I usually try to keep Gambit, my ponysona, somewhere in my posts but she does get displaced occasionally.

I will admit that I do imagine users to have some sort of relation to their avatars - mentally or appearance-wise - but it doesn't affect the tone of the post.

I generally tend to imagine people AS their avatar without realising I always think, whenever I go to a meetup, that people should have little nametags with their name and current avatar. It'd make recognising them a whole lot easier.

I totally think of everyone as their avatars. And I hate when they change because it throws me off! Like a whole new person has shown up lol.

I also tend to imagine people as their avatars when reading the posts.  It just rocks my world when people change them and it takes a while to adjust :p
