Saving Tinkerbell
« on: June 29, 2014, 08:41:02 AM »
Update:  I found a lovely template for the wing shapes and patterns for Tink, as well as the rest of her friends!!

http://haleinahandbasket.weebly.com/uploads/2/3/7/5/23759971/fairy_wings_template.jpeg

It came from this site for custom clothespin pixies:  http://haleinahandbasket.weebly.com/2/category/tinkerbell/1.html

Anyway, I figured out the scale of her wings based on the Secret of the Wings promo pic.  I used a watercolor pencil (slightly damp) to trace the wing pattern on some plastic.  You see, I've been saving the plastic from my MH/EAH dolls just for this...and it's just perfect!!

I'm just crazy over the older Disney Store Fairies dolls.  First, I found naked Tink at a thrift store.  Then I found her dress a month or two later at a different thrift store (actually, I think it's a dress belonging to a different edition, but it fits!)  All she needs are wings and shoes and she'll be perfect!  I know she came with tights, but I don't need them for my doll.  Tink doesn't wear tights in the movies :P

Ooooh, I am so excited!  I found the perfect glitter on eBay, too!  :inlove:

-------------------------------------------
I have a lovely Tink with no wings.

I'd like to make repro wings that match her originals as closely as possible.

Do you have this doll?

If you do, could you scan her wings so I can make 1:1 replacements?  Thank you!!!

Oh, and....Rosetta...if you have her, can I see her wings?

Thanks again!

My TIP (Tink in progress).  I'm thinking of making replacement shoes with matching fabric...

The scale looks just right! Sorry I can't help with the glitter pattern (unless they are similar to the tall jointed fashion pixies line? I have both Tink and Rosetta)

Oh, thank you!  I already have a pattern that is movie-accurate for her wings ^_^  I just have to buy the perfect glitter.

I'm trying to decide if I want pure silver or a silvery-green glitter...

I think she'd look gorgeous with some silver+turqoise-green glitter! Looks like the one you linked as do you have this doll, the glitter matches her eyes.

I found a seller online who has many colors...the thing is, do you think 1/2 tsp. would be enough?  I'm thinking yes...but it's been a while since I worked with glitter...

If you have a hobby lobby nearby they have tons of different types of fine scrapbooking glitter (relatively cheap). As for quantity you're going to want more then you think you'll need. I'm not sure how you're going about application but if you go glue then put glitter on you'll want to have enough to over coat for maximum coverage (those are big wings).

Good advice - I was about to order glitter on eBay, but I really do think I'll need more than 1/2 tsp.

I was going to trace the wing pattern in glue (probably fabric/craft glue that dries clear) and then shake the glitter all over the wings.  It's probably best if I get a lot to make the application easier & then shake off the excess back into the container.

No Hobby Lobby's around here, but lots of Michael's!

I found this pic a few minutes ago and I think I'll go with a holographic silver/light blue

I agree. That's a great comparison pic. I've brought ponies along for finding just the right paint colors so if you have to bring Tink to find the right shade of blue I'd say go for it! Can't wait to see pics when you're done!!

I don't know if you went on Michael's website, but they have a printable 40% coupon for a regular priced item. :o)

I didn't! Thank you!!!  That will be a huge help!  Maybe I can pick up some glitter for Rosetta...she's next to be saved :)

The new wings look amazing! Coupled with the fact that they glow, they're better than the originals!
