Viz gets rights to Sailor Moon

Funimation never dubbed Sailor Moon. Other than DiC, it was "Cloverway Inc." (basically a part of Toei) that dubbed the other episodes.
Funimation did hint about possibly trying to get the series some years back (I remember they had a poll that had " a complete redub of Sailor Moon" as a option for future anime to get) but that didn't go through.

I tried to do a little googling this evening. I did find out that Dic was bought out by DHX Media in 2008. But I couldn't find Sailor Moon on DHX's site. I came across the info on Cloverway Inc, but I couldn't find an official site for them.

Could it be that Toei and Naoko don't want the original dub rereleased?

The subs are going up on Hulu at a rate of 4 episodes a week.  Free to watch in the US, though I don't know if past week's episodes will go to Hulu plus.  Most of the anime on there is free to watch permanently, like SNK and what not.

 I saw this news a week ago and I was so excited to see it happen. I watched the first two episodes on Hulu plus the other day and so happy to hear the Japanese voices again. Can't wait for the new dub it looks to be interesting.

I'm excited to get to see the whole thing as it was meant to be, but I'm also a little sad. Yeah, DiC kind of butchered the series, but that's also the version that we all grew up with and got us to love it in the first place. I'm going to miss the music and "Serena," "Darien," and "Lita," and it makes sad that everyone seems to willing to throw away the version that made most of us love the series in the first place.

As for Neptune and Uranus as "cousins," I'm glad their relationship is no longer going to be censored, but you can't tell me that's still not the funniest (and most failed) attempted at regionalizing an anime that you've ever seen! Even though I know it wouldn't make any sense, I kind of hope it will come up, like, once, as a joke, in either the new dub or the new anime. It's just so iconically bad.

I never buy re-releases of anime (I own the old ADV DVDs of this series) but I WILL be rebuying it. And I am SO happy that Stars is finally coming over!

So anyone know if they'll be using the americanized names years ago? Or are they going to use the traditional japanese names?

EDIT: looked it up on wikipedia...they're staying true to the japanese version. Ahh well...maybe it's best to watch it anew and accurate.

I just watched the 2 new ones for this week- and they must have been cut completely from US TV- I've never seen them before! I had all of the later ones after R subbed, so it's so nice to see the beginning in its original form!

The DiC version I seem to remember cut every other episode (every even numbered episode?) that wasn't explicitly plot-related. At least, that was what it looked like to me, but it's been a long time since I watched it.

That's pretty much what they did. I know one episode they cut involved Serena, Ami, and Raye going to a "haunted house".
I also remembered DiC editing/"fusing" the last two episodes of season 1 into one episode. xD:

I actually assumed that was what they had done when I saw it, because it was too short by far for the things that happened, even before I knew that it was what actually happened.
