How does your herd grow?

How does your garden grow?
How does your herd grow?

I was just going through collection photos looking for photos of some fakies I have in storage (I thought I might have bought a double, which it turns out I had) and I came across a photo of my ponies all together on one of the spare beds... now I was sorting ponies just yesterday (and now wish I'd taken a photo) but they took up both that bed and I was running back and forth sorting them on my queen size bed as well :P

Here's the photo in question:

I was surprised to find it was taken in August 2012. This is what my collection looked like June last year:

See that bed in the back? That's where the first photo was taken! So yesterday I covered the back bed in baby ponies, g4's and G1's, had my fakies and sales ponies on the front bed, and my G2's and G3's in the bedroom on my bed... so it's grown way more again...

So how does your pony herd grow? Fast? Slow? Not at all? Downsizing? Photos!

I mainly just collect G4s, and they've been doing so many re-releases of the same characters, new characters are few and far between. It grew fast at first, but it's kind of leveling off.

I have about a dozen G3s, but I only collect them opportunistically, or as I see ones that interest me. That one hasn't grown at all in a couple years.

I also mostly only collected G4s but since the phase of re-releases is so long, I find myself growing my G1 and G3 portions of my herd. To the dismay of my pocketbook, my collection has been growing fairly rapidly, despite the absence of new new releases.

I've even been buying up G4s that I previously passed up, like some Glimmer wings and Pinklestias. I should really get a current pic so I can do a before and after.

Also, that is pretty impressive growth! Initially it was just your bed being taken over. Now it is your whole room. Next will be your entire house!

I also collect mostly G4, haven't bought any others outside of yard sales since 2012. Though I also love the EQG dolls so they are taking up most if my time now. I still have tons of ponies though, I kept a good memory list of everyone for years, but I lost count and track with just how many ponies I have, nor so I have a specific place for any of them, so my room is just a mess of ponies...
When the Equestria Girls dolls show up in stores and you end up with unneeded doubles, PM me! I'll buy them!/i]

I collect only G1 and my herd grows in fits and starts.  I recently got a large lot, so I need to sell off my extras before buying many more.  But I also trade my extras, and that feels more like shopping to me, where I can pick and choose specifically which ones I want to add one by one.

It depends on whether I am feeling rich or not. If I am feeling rich my herd multiplies like rabbits.

I had none of my childhood ponies when I started collecting, only one of my18th birthday presents - a Basket Surprise Sweet Berry.

I DID intend only to buy the 5 ponies from Friendship Gardens, to satisfy that part of my childhood nostalgia. But ponies are addictive! I now have my Basket Surprise Sweet Berry, Magic Motion Ivy, Secret Surprise Morning Glory, Lady Cupcake, Magic Motion Sweet Berry, McD's Lightheart and Sweet Berry, Newborn Twin Snookums and Flutter Morning Glory. So it's multiplied somewhat from that first Sweet Berry! I've got a few ponies on their way too. I keep saying I won't buy more till I get a steady job, but it's so hard!

It grew super fast over the first few years (around the time I joined up here!) but for various reasons it's slowed down:

I make less at my current job and I'm trying to save money for moving house, a moped and a license.
As I've expanded my G1 collection I'm running out of ponies I really want that are inexpensive.
With a hubby in the house I feel embarrassed when there is a constant stream of ponies coming in the mail.

So at the moment I only make the occasional impulse purchase and go more deliberate in terms of completing sets and such.

When G3s first came out, my entire collection could fit in a single wine box from the LCBO. Wow - now they have the 3rd bedroom.

It exploded when I joined here. At least as far as my G1s. 99%of my G3s were either dollar store specials or found at the walmart neighborhood markets. I was lucky enough to get my G2s off ebay and my G4s are a hodgepodge. Sadly they are mostly in containers and a shelf in my back room. Wouldn't be too bad if I could find a better way to organize or display everything. Now days if I find something I am looking for and it is a good deal I will try and get it. I try to keep the price cheap but reasonable.

I do probably 90% of my buying for the year at the Fair each year, so mine grows slowly, but usually 20+ ponies at a time.

Here's a picture of my herd from approximately a year ago, it's grown by about 40 ponies since then.
