Mostly just what i like , but if while getting the ones I like I end up with the ones I do not care much for I just keep them .
And if to complete a set gets on my mind then yes I get a complete set. But does not happen often .

Completionist - all the way :P Even down to accessories. I certainly did not start collecting with that intention but after a year or so I decided, why not?! So now this completionist has completed her collection save a number of upgrades [and Euro Rossette who continues to elude me].

Most of the time, I just buy what I like! But I like most ponies once I have 'em in my hands, so maybe I'm a completionist at heart ;)

I'm a bit of all :) there are some sets I feel the need to have as complete ones, then therecare sets I only like one pony of - I don't bother getting others if I feel I won't appreciate them enough.

I buy what I like.  And if there is a set that I happen to like all of the ponies in, I will go after buying that set.  But I don't feel like I HAVE to complete a set.

I buy what I like!

That being said, if I like most of the ponies in a set, or end up with most of the ponies in a set, I'd probably finish the set just to say I have a finished set haha.

A bit of both, but I'm mainly a completionist. That only goes for G1 though, with other generations I only buy ponies I genuinely like and don't care who belongs to which set.

As for G1, I try to complete all sets I've started, prioritizing those I like best. Occasionally I just buy pretty ponies that catch my eye or buy ponies in lots and that way I end up starting new sets. Some sets I'm not in a hurry to complete but once I've collected all my favourites I'll probably move on to those I care less for. :P Of course there are also sets that I'm not interested in at all.

I don't mind having ponies from odd sets in my collection but it would drive me nuts to have sets that were missing just one pony! So far I've been collecting ponies only, not accessories, although I naturally don't mind getting accessories with the ponies I buy - that'll save me some trouble if I ever decide to start hoarding accessories.

I have all the G1 Rainbow ponies, I'm trying to collect Big Brother sets, but the rest of mine are Adult Ponies that had a Baby Pony released. Some of mine have babies that just match colour-wise though, i'm obsessed with putting 'families' together!!

A bit of both but also a mix of the two. I have some sets I really want like all the G3 20 inch plush and pajama cases, AUS/NZ pajama cases and G1 Rainbow Curl ponies. But these days I mostly buy ponies based on how I want to display them, the shelf I have in my mind becomes like a 'set' to me so I tend to compete these 'sets' them move onto a new one.

I also has things I contently add too, such as my Pinkie Pie army and the G4 build a bears.  But if I come across a pony I love I will usually buy it or add it to my wishlist, so yeah I'm a mixture!

I'm also very fond of buying the different versions of ponies I love, not really for an army but more because I want as many variants as possible, such as with my G3 Fluttery and G1 Bow Tie collections.

I kinda jump back and forth. I complete sets that I really, really like and casually am trying to do whole year completions, but sometimes I buy a pony just because I really love her, thinking I might complete the set eventually.

I'll only ever try and complete a set if I like all the ponies in it. :) Other than that I'm not much of a completionist, collection-wise, haha.

I love the thought of having my whole spare room full of ponies and usually when I buy ponies I'm not sure that I like I turn out loving them anyway.

I will get the accessories to eventually.

Generally, I don't like to have missing pieces (but this goes more for my Sonic collection than my pony collection because I barely have any ponies that are part of a "set") but if there was one I really did not care for, I would not waste my money on it! It's basically throwing my money away on something I don't actually want.
