Princess Serena and german variant princesses
« on: January 28, 2014, 01:47:56 AM »
Hello I purchased what I believed to be a normal uk release princess Serena (aquamarine) with unfaded hair to be told yesterday over tea with nappercasper that she's a german release! OK now I'm shocked lol
The pat pending mark has been rubbed off and her hair is bright pink.
Looking at my other princesses I've noticed that two others have this mark removed as well (tiffany and royal blue) ...However they do not look like the german releases I've seen more like normal uk versions.
Can someone shed light on this for me, as I'm now rather confused  :what: :freak:

Yep, she looks like a German :) It's the hair thing - they are very similar and some mint Princess Serena's without faded hair might be similar to her. I'm sure someone will have comparison pics. The German Serena has a deeper pink too, more vibrant. It's also a reason why she goes fairly cheaply on some auctions, because people are not aware she's a variant ;)

Also from what I noticed, the Pat Pend thing is more of a European releases thing - some ponies were released later in Europe than in US and then they lost the Pat pend marks, so not necessarily are they htf variants which are different from the US releases.

For example - I had a German Wigwam without a Pat Pend mark and he was different in color and had a different headdress. He was 100% German. BUT my friend who had a Wigwam with no Pat Pend with his original accessories had one which looked exactly like his US counterpart - it was just released later and thus had lost the mark under the hoof.

Wow that is interesting!
She was rather cheap as well so I thought she was a normal release. ..what a pleasant surprise she's my first "nirvana" brought in England! Funny how I purchase lots of ponies from Germany including 3 other princesses and the one I buy in the uk is the german version lol

Serena is confusing as she has several releases. Her main US one being fading pink hair with pat pend. Then she got a Euro release without the pat pend, but with the same fading hair. And then she got another 2 releases with bubblegum coloured hair and with a purply pink coloured hair - neither of which will fade in he same way the normal fading pink will. It will fade of course...just not to the same degree. The latter 2 only ever popped up in Germany, I believe.

Do you have another picture of her? Her hair does not look bubblegum-ish enough to be the bubblegum German version however that could very much be the picture. Her hair looks closer to the purply pink colour which was the other release. Or she could just be an unfaded version of the regular Euro release.

I think she's the pink purple release. Her hair is not fading hair and its not a bubblegum pink hair. I had that version at some point.

It's really very hard to tell. I had seen some of the variant Serena Princesses go for under $10 - mine went for $3,5 :lookround: but I had seen one go for $20 and $40 respectively over the last year. Also when I asked PKW about a pricecheck she agreed that it's hard to estimate her value but said she should go for $25-$30 if I remember correctly. I had the pink haired version though, so I would guess the purple one would go for a bit more, like $35-$40, but that's just my guess.

The lack of the PAT PEND means she is German.

There are three different colours of hair that German Princess Aquamarine comes with.

Fading pink
Bubblegum pink
Lilac pink

Here is the bubblegum pink version

Wow....comparing pictures I believe she's the pink lilac version :) haha
Can some one pc her for me I only paid £13 for her I thought she was the uk version so I thought I'd probably over paid but she was the last one I needed in the set so was prepared to pay what I needed to get her with pink hair...I hate faded pink hair that's gone white so it had taken me months to find one with pink hair lol .

Yup as mentioned she sure does look like the purply pink version nice find :) The purple version pops up less often than the pink but I would think $25 is about right at the moment. Awesome find!
