A third g1 special?

I read something about a my little pony special that was planned to air sometime after RAMC but before Eascape From Catrina. It had something to do with the rainbow ponies, but only a commercial for it was ever released. Does anyone know about this? Even better, does anyone happen to have a recording of the commercial?

Second of all, there is no actual confirmed footage beyond this of the special to my knowledge. There's a few sites out there claiming it is a really rare (and expensive) video that could be rented through the computers of certain video rental places but I think it's safe to assume this is an urban legend and due to the death of VHS (and movie rental places themselves) if this were true it has since been nullified.

It's a shame though. I would have liked to see this episode.

i WISH  but no one has ever confirmed this special in the communities that i know of.  the ad is the only thing i have ever seen.   sadly looks beautiful.

So far as I know, it never released and probably never made.  It's a shame.

I know that the Skydancer and Starshine footage was used in the Rainbow pony commerical, but other than that I don't think any of it was used. Moonstone looked really pretty animaged though.

I'm under the impression that it was just an ad for escape for Katrina. Like, it was  animated before escape from katrina. But I'm secretly hoping it's just hidden and will surface one day!

Because it has a similar feel to the other promos I agree there was never a special with the Rainbow ponies released. However, I do think there was probably more footage of it created than we have ever seen or will ever see; it must have wandered a reasonable way along the production line for them to be confident to promote it and have art ready for the advert. So sad

Neat - I never knew about this before!  But I'm still not quite clear - is it animation for a Rainbow Pony ad that was tossed in as filler footage for the next special?  Or was this the only time that footage was ever used - in a brief blurb at the end of the RaMC home video?

I ask because I haven't been able to find video of a Rainbow Pony commercial to verify one way or the other.

Wouldn't it be awesome if someone in the community who is good at animation continue and expand on that footage in similar style!? That would be so cool!
