Oh you're definitely not alone!  I'm lucky in that I have a cousin on my mom's side that is as big of a geek as I am.  When my cousin, my mom and I went to see Thor: Dark World.  My cousin and I were talking about the little spoilers and which scenes Joss Whedon directed, etc.  Mom apparently felt left out and chimed in "What movie are you talking about and when is it coming out?"  That was less than 10 minutes after leaving the theater.

I feel your pain!  I'm the only geek in my family and I usually get eyerolls when I wear my Star Trek and Star Wars stuff around family.  My brother is a geek, but not to the same extent I am.  I almost thought of putting a replica of Mace Windu's lightsaber on my Christmas list along with a Star Trek: TNG uniform, but my family just would have laughed at me.

oh i hear you. though i was ecstatic when i found out a co-worker also likes star wars. i work in a pharmacy and i was counting drugs and i went to get some and grabbed the wrong bottle. i was like 'oh crap that's not the right one' and my co-worker said 'those are not the drugs you are looking for' and i nearly killed myself laughing lol.
we say that once in a while now it's a bit of an inside joke. especially since our cashier didn't get it and then got mad  cause she doesn't like star wars.

By "Star Wars" (notice the quotes) I was referring to the old facepalm joke of star trek = star wars.  (people don't know the difference, and don't care which is fine, but still....  :shocked: :shocked: :shocked:  ;)

As in.... "Well so what if I though Spock was the bald one, I've never watched 'Star Wars'."

So I have a story to contribute.  Today we did an exploratory/gastrotomy on a dog that chewed up and ate part of a squeaky toy.  As we were fishing all the pieces out of the stomach, there was one big piece that was blocking the end of the stomach keeping the smaller pieces from entering the intestine.  I jokingly said we should name the big piece Gandalf.  I only got confused looks, to which I had to add, "You know, 'you shall not pass!"   
*sigh* I need to learn when to shut up.
