I guess I like either the same. We don't use them often though.

Both can be cute but we don't use either at my house. We have a small round kitchen table with a glass inset top. Traditional placemats would be too big, and I can just imagine my cats pulling a tablecloth off.  >_<

Usually we have a table cloth, but it's in the wash so we're using placemats at the moment.

Placemats here!  My son still loves those plastic character placemats (he has a Mario one at the moment, but it's soon due to change for the holiday season) and mine's just a standard woven one.  I've done tablecloths, but they tend to get off-kilter really easily somehow, so we just forgo them.

Wishlist - I'm back on (semi-) active buying again... can't buy everything on my wish list all at once (yay, back-to-school and tuition fees), but I am still looking to plump up my collection a bit more: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html

I use placemats.  The only time I use tablecloths is for parties (and if it's for one of my kids' birthday parties, then I use plastic ones at that!)

However I sometimes use runners.  Our table can expand to be quite large, and to squeeze in a few more seats I use runners up and down each side instead of individual placemats.  I know, I could probably use a tablecloth in those instances, but I hate having to spot clean such a large item.  The runners are much more manageable.

Nothing.

My parents and I each have our own set of allergies so there's next to nothing we can all eat and normally we just make our own meal and eat it; My mom has a chair in the living room she often sits at and eats there, my dad usually eats in the basement because he has his office there and our basement is finished so it's basically a second living room but with more boxes, and either eat at my computer desk (which would be inconvinient to put the mat on) or on the sofa in the living room. My parents work from home and I haven't started my job yet so we don't really need a designated time to be together (plus I find it odd having people sitting so close to me while I'm eating) and our dining room table is always covered in projects

Saying that I would probably buy Pony ones without actually using them

I use a tablecloth because my dining table is an antique. I don't usually eat at my table, I use it for other things, but it's always covered.

At my parents house we use both, but at my place we just have placemats. We would probably have a tablecloth as well, but our kitchen and dinning room have an autumn/maple leaf and acorn theme and so far I haven't found a tablecloth that fits in to it well enough lol.
