Assumptions about ponies?
« on: October 04, 2013, 03:34:29 PM »
This is kind of silly but what have you ever been surprised to discover something about ponies, or had assumptions that have turned out wrong, even the simplest things? So far I've got two that surprised me so much!

The first SoSoft G1 I ever bought I got on a whim with a few others for bulk shipping. I was thinking the flocking would be like any other flocked toy I've touched, boy was I wrong! I unwrapped her and was just gobsmacked at how soft she was, I had been expecting cheap thin flocking but I totally underestimated her, she was so soft!

And this happened just a few days ago, I bought my first G1 brush. I went to brush some manes with it and was just completely surprised to find that the brush wasn't hard plastic! Flexible plastic comb? Blew my mind! What with all the toy combs I've ever come across this just made me pause then ask 'How did I not know this? Why didn't anyone tell me?'.

All these years I've had these assumptions and I'm just like DUH now, lol :P

Edit: Don't tell me the Big Brothers' hats are the same plastic as G1 brushes... or else I will need to buy them haha.

I foolishly assumed I'd never add anything post G3 to my collection ( I was pretty turned off by G3.5) but I was very wrong there - I loved g4's from first sight and so strongly it's re-ignited my pony collecting love.

Along those lines, I assumed I'd hate the FiM cartoons but I was way wrong once again! :)

If it wasn't G3, I hated it. I saw G4 styled ponies, despised them. But now, i'm thankful. I gave the generation a chance by watching the show and they brought me back to collecting MLP  :)

It may sound a little stupid, but I never knew how many cool things you could do with G4 hair. It's super fun to style and holds it shape pretty well!

I thought that I would never add G4 ponies to my collection. And G2 ponies to, but I am starting to look at them.

I cant remember who my first So Soft pony was but I know that I was totally surprised when I felt her also for the first time. I love to feel there soft little fur. I love how it feels on the bottom of there feet! I don't think that Hasbro would be able to make ponies that soft right now. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a So Soft G4 pony?

I had been collecting for years and years before someone pointed out that "dance and prance" ponies actually "dance" when left on a flat surface. I always thought the knob was just to make the tail twirl...but apparently not!

I have always called the petite ponies "stamp ponies"... even though it says petite ponies right on the package. I guess petite was hard for me to say as a kid and they looked like stampers. lol

That G3.5 would be as bad as everybody makes out they are.

I actually find g3.5 really cute.

WHAT :what:

I didn't buy some ponies I wanted because they had cancer and I didn't want it to spread through my herd

Nope...not contagious. Although its a assumption that a surprising number of people seem to be under. So you are not alone :)

I assumed I wouldn't get that many  Now while I don't know their exact number I do know there are over 100 each of G1 and G3 but I mostly collect G4 so I mostly have them.

I assumed as a child that Princess Tiffany was a boy pony, I still don't know why
