^^ yep that one was one of mine as well. I also thought Birthday Pony was a boy. My childhood one is still treated as such, he's called Party, and he's dating Patch at the mo!

I had been collecting for years and years before someone pointed out that "dance and prance" ponies actually "dance" when left on a flat surface. I always thought the knob was just to make the tail twirl...but apparently not!

Oh, that's another one of mine too. Because every time I saw them spinning their tails someone was holding them, it wasn't until I saw the original commercial that I learnt that they dance! It made me want one but I still haven't bought one. :P

Sea Ponies are really big. I thought they they were the size that the babies are.
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a woman in possession of disposable income, must be in want of a pony.

I assumed I needed to buy every single (G1/G4) pony I saw.

^_^ I was wrong. [And now I can walk away without feeling guilt, or bad].

Didnt know G1 roller skateing ponys could be pulled back like toy cars and let go, thought they just had wheels!

The first thing that came to my mind from this question?  I recall back in 1999 or so, when I stumbled across the MLP site Dream Valley, and used it to identify my childhood ponies.  I was blown away by the fact that every pony had an official name, and came in themed sets.  My naive little childhood world was shattered!

I was under the impression that gen 1 ponies were only from the US or the UK , until I found out about nirvana ponies.
